Bay Area Houston. The Year in Review

The year was dominated by La Marque City Councilman Joseph Lowry.

Joseph Lowry. In 2024 the chaos in League City ended (pretty much) when Councilman Justin Hicks resigned in disgrace probably to avoid charges from the DA. That’s when Joseph Lowry and La Marque took over. In just over a couple of years Lowry has racked up quite a resume including multiple harassment lawsuits, police reports, a Domestic Violence Protective Order, multiple censures by the Council, failure to pay $43,000 in taxes, multiple media stories, multiple recalls, sexual harassment of La Marque employees, his Facebook page being deleted multiple times, and continuous public harassment of individuals on social media and in public. WHEW! You can review all of this here. His constant running around yelling about baseless criminal allegations against council and those who challenge him has resulted in the title of Chicken Lowry. Hopefully Lowry will make a deal with the District Attorney and do what Justin Hicks did and just go away in lieu of felony charges.

Scott Bowen got his ass kicked by CCISD parents who were fed up with his partisan attacks on public education. Instead they voted for a reasonable candidate and the Board and the District are better off for it. Bowen being caught on film sponsoring a resolution within the Republican Party in support of Vouchers didn’t help. He got hammered for it in the election. Bowen is now running for State Representative where he will take a knee to Greg Abbott and basically do what the fuck he is told what to do.

Galveston County Sheriff Jimmy Fullen got away with something even Hunter Biden couldn’t get away with. He falsified government documents. The falsification of his application to run for Sheriff was so egregious the Texas Commission On Law Enforcement recommended his law enforcement license to be revoked. Instead of admitting to breaking the law Fullen got off with a suspension back dated prior to his election as Sheriff. In other words they didn’t do shit. Lucky for Fullen his name wasn’t Hunter Biden.

Seabrook voters kept the city from taking over for League City rejecting 4 of 5 radical right candidates including Jackie Rasco running for Mayor. Seabrook has since been relatively quiet. Rasco as you remember was caught up in a nasty police situation at her home with a nosy neighbor, an intoxicated minor, a gun, $3000 worth of damage, and an arrest. She lost. Seabrook elected a very talented Mayor and Council.

Joe Machol, one of Scott Bowen’s recruited candidates ran against a sitting School Board Trustee, Jessica Cejka. Lucky for CCISD Machol lost, big time. Machol like the other Bowen recruits had no business being near a public school. He was one of the worst candidates to ever run for a school board election. Early in the campaign I asked why he was running against a very effective member of the board. He ghosted me.

Home Insurance continued to skyrocket with homeowners meeting to address the problem. Elected officials such as State Representative Dennis Paul who has sat on the insurance committee for the House and out State Senator Money Mayes Middleton have done nothing to curb the premiums. With elections coming up this year maybe the voters will vote their values and their pocketbooks.

NASA/JSC was facing site closing cuts to their budget with the proposed cutting of the Orion project, heavy launch vehicle, and the Moon Space Station all while our elected officials sat quietly with their thumbs up their butts. Cornyn and Cruz came to the rescue proposing to bring a real Shuttle from Washington DC to Houston. (It ain’t going to happen folks) Lucky for NASA the proposal was going to give 25% of NASA’s budget to SpaceX….until Musk got crosseyed with Trump.

In other news, the far left of the Harris County Democrats passed yet another worthless resolution against Mayor Whitmire giving us bad press and continuing to chase away the independent voters who are looking for effective leadership without drama. Speaking of drama, Judge Lina Hidalgo decided not to run for re-election. Good luck. Former Harris County DA Kim Ogg left the party. Good riddance. And Mayor Whitmire will probably not run for re-election. Good idea.

Happy new year!
