You have to wonder what it takes to get disbarred in Texas.
Harris County Department of Education Trustee Eric Dick was charged with 4 counts of unauthorized practice of law after solicitation clients in Hawaii after the Maui files in 2023. In December of 2025 Dick pled no contest to the charges. (See below) According to his plea he has to pay a fine of $220.
Dick is not up for reelection until 2030 but his wife Denise is running for a place on the HCDE Board in the 2026 Republican Primary.
Being charged for the Unauthorized Practice of Law is just another in a series of of bad news facing Dick including:
- Being charged with assault of a family member (his wife)
- Wife filed for divorce
- Being sued for filing lawsuits without the clients permission and accepting a payment
- Sanctioned by a judge in Harris County for $117,000
- Sanctioned by a judge in Galveston County for $137,000
- His Case was dismissed in San Antonio after claiming his client had died (he didn’t)
- A judge recently questioned the signature of a dead inspector on documents submitted to the court by Dick.
- Dick was fined $40,000 by the Texas Ethics Commission.
- A formal complaint was filed against him as a HCDE Trustee.
- In lieu of a sanction by the HCDE he donated $40,000 (not confirmed)
