League City SausageFest continues

February 19, 2024

The voters have spoken.

Well after spending record amounts to win a few thousand votes League City Council will remain an all white, all male, council to represent the diversity of the city. Voters had a chance to elect a conservative female but chose a republican, white, male instead.

Courtney Chadwell won by a 2-1 margin and will join his buddies Nick Long and Justin Hicks. Expect to see more movement to privatize library services and possibly other services. The sky is the limit. Unlike Long, Hicks did not contribute to Chadwell’s campaign, probably for very good reasons. Long, who is not running for reelection at this time, spent over $13,000, some, if not all, was in support of Chadwell.

Broke ass Hicks resorted to free posting on Facebook claiming Chadwell is the only “conservative” in the race. If Chadwell follows Hicks then he isn’t a conservative. Conservatives don’t ban books. Conservatives don’t lie, cheat, or steal. Conservatives don’t commit adultery. Conservatives aren’t freeloaders, they pay their bills. Conservatives don’t believe in creating a “Nanny State” with unnecessary bureaucracy, rules, and regulation. Republicans do.

To the real conservatives on the Council stand your ground and hold on to the true values that conservatives across the Bay Area adhere to. Who knows? Maybe Chadwell will surprise the living shit out of everyone and join you!

Bill to protect fans at the next Astros victory parade failed

February 19, 2024

You think it can’t happen here? Think. Again.

In the 2023 Texas Legislation session House Bill 179 was filed by Representative Goodwin. It would ban all firearms at protests, public gatherings, parades, and other events. It was filed, sent to the “Community Safety” Committee and died. There was no hearings, public testimony, discussion. Nothing. Zero. Zip. It just fucking died. So guns are allowed at the next Astros victory parade.

The law to be modified currently makes it a crime to expose yourself, shout profanities, make offensive gestures, create an obnoxious odor, make threats, makes unreasonable noise, fights with another, discharges a firearm, or display your anus. The bill added “displays a firearm while attending or within 500 feet of a public demonstration.” In Houston you cannot carry an American flag on a pole and would be asked to leave the area, but you can take that same flag and put it on a loaded AR-15 and the police can’t do a gaddamn thing about it.

If this had passed you would be subject to being shot by the police if you open carry an assault weapon at an Astros victory parade or at a 4th of July Parade. If you are carrying a firearm in public, then you are a danger to the public.

By the way, Friendswood allows open carry of assault weapons at their parade and park during the 4th of July weekend. Have fun!

After the Lakewood shooting Greg Abbott offers guns to Christians

February 18, 2024

Praise the Lord!

According to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s press secretary, Abbott has offered armed guards to provide security to the over 50,000 Christian places of worship in Texas. From his press release:

“It is clear the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun and we have plenty of money and resources to provide the much needed security to all places of worship.”

Abbott intends to use money from the $25 Billion Rainy Day Fund. The cost of providing security at Christian churches would vary depending upon the number of services offered. When asked if resources would be provided to Jews, Muslims, or any other religious services Abbott spun around and rolled off.

Make you wonder: What Would Jesus Do? Welcome to Satire Sunday and pass the ammunition.

Raising Campaign Cash: Jimmy Fullen February Report

February 18, 2024

This is interesting.

In his February report Fullen reported raising $32,000 in unitemized donations. That in itself is, at first, disturbing but it looks like only a clerical error. He raised $47,115 in itemized donations, $10,000 coming from Mayor Nick Long and $10,000 coming from Tony Buzbee the guy who got trampled in the race for Houston Mayor and City Council.

Fullen reported another personal loan of $32,000 (are reported it as unitemized donations). His $100,000 personal loan that was reported in his Jan report is no longer listed or having been paid off. As I mentioned the Ethics Commission frowns on padding your campaign account with fake donations or loans. We will see what happens in the near future. If you are going to be enforcing the law you should be required to follow the law. And if you are going to be responsible for a city’s financial well being you should be responsible for your own financial well being. But I digress.

His biggest donors are listed below. Of the $47,000 raised, $37,000 came from 4 individuals. $32,000 is from out of the county. His report can be reviewed here.

Jason Rabalais$12,000Crosby

CCISD Elections are set. 2 Seats unopposed.

February 17, 2024

Congrats to CCISD Board Members Jay Cunningham and Jonathan Cottrell! They are not opposed in the upcoming election. Welcome back.

Jeff Larson for District 4 drew an opponent, Albert Wittliff. He seems to be an interesting candidate. He was a former Special Agent at Department of Homeland Security. He doesn’t have a campaign page set up yet. Larson is running for reelection and has served on the Board for 3 years. I was not thrilled that Larson followed Scott Bowen’s lead on various issues. He even voted for Bowen for President, VP, and Secretary. Bowen lost all three votes. But, as I have said in the past, I have been told the Board is performing well and that is good for us, our teachers, and our kids.

It is great to see Jay and Jonathan returning. More information about the race in District 4 will be posted.

League City Personal Finance Statements are due

February 16, 2024

This might be interesting.

I have looked at hundreds of campaign finance reports but I have never reviewed a Personal Finance Statement (PFS). Last year the Republican controlled Legislature passed a bill requiring all elected officials in cities with a population of over 100,000 to file a PFS. This caused a member of the League City Council, John Bowen, to resign. A special election for his replacement is ongoing. For everyone else, including candidates, their reports are due and will be controlled by the City Secretary.

If you are interested in what an official has to disclose you can review the guidance for disclosure at the Texas Municipal League’s website. In short:

If you are interested, the PFS form can be found on the Texas Ethics Commission website. Here is a sample. Happy hunting!

It’s F***ing Friday: Another shooting. Had enough yet?

February 16, 2024

When will we demand action?

What will it take before we demand action on gun control from our elected officials? What will it take? Who has to die before we get up off our ass and do something? Will it take a mass shooting at a school killing twenty one 1st graders? Or nineteen 9 year olds? Or 8 high school students right here in the Bay Area? When will all you fuckin so called “Christians” put your goddamn bible down, the one you never read, and finally demand action after 26 christians were killed while praying in church? Maybe Joel Osteen might have something to say about it.

It is clear as fucking glass Greg Abbott isn’t going to get off his ass and do something about gun violence. Neither is Ted Cruz, or our own State Representative Dennis Paul. They think it is fun to pose with guns, or fry bacon on an assault rifle, or walk around like a dork with an NRA hat. It’s a game to them. It is funny and people, children, christians, police, service men, dancers, teachers, and others are dying. Real fucking funny.

So it is up to us and so far we have failed. You would have thought the voters in Uvalde would have voted Abbott off the island after the shooting at Ross Elementary. They didn’t, and they are not alone. Voters in Texas returned the very person responsible for gun violence, they guy who bragged about making Texas a sanctuary state for guns, back to office so he could continue sitting on his ass and do nothing while children and police are slaughtered.

The only thing Texans are good at is making fucking [fill in the blank] Strong t-shirts. What’s it going to take before we do something? Dennis Paul can be reached at (281) 488-8900.

Why are you running? Oscar Salazar Jr for Justice of the Peace

February 15, 2024

This is disappointing.

Oscar Salazar Jr is running for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Place 1 (Scarsdale area) against the incumbent Justice Jo Ann Delgado in the Democratic primary but Salazar isn’t a Democrat. Salazar is the owner of Morning Kolaches. If you want great Kolaches that is the place to be. According to the Houston Chronicle, who has endorsed Judge Delgado, there is no requirement to be a lawyer to run for a Justice of the Peace:

Challenger Oscar Salazar, Jr. is a Marine veteran who owns a chain of kolache shops. He doesn’t have a law degree, but JPs aren’t required to have one. Delgado isn’t a lawyer either, but she came to the bench after working as a clerk in the courts for 23 years, including ten years as a chief clerk for JP Richard Vera in the 1980s.

Salazar hasn’t voted in a Democratic primary. He voted in the Republican primary in 2016 and I can only guess who he voted for. That should disqualify Salazar but our primaries are open and anyone including a trumper can file.

And one did. Delgado has been doing a great job. Vote for Delgado if you are in that precinct.

Disturbing endorsements in the Harris County DA’s race

February 15, 2024

The Houston Chronicle listed the endorsements of the two leading candidates in the Harris County District Attorneys race.

It’s the who’s who of who’s who and the who’s who of who’s that? Some of these endorsements can be disturbing to some, for instance DA Ogg is endorsed by the C Club. The C stands for Conservative or Confusing. They are proud of their support by Michael “Hit and Run” Berry the local white wing, loud mouth, talk show host who was caught in a gay bar, on camera. The Texas Observer has a great article on what happened:

According to the bouncer at T.C.’s Show Bar in Montrose, Michael Berry left the club, where he was attending as a patron, at 11:00 PM on January 31. The bouncer, Tuderia Bennett, said Berry drove in reverse for 70 feet, hit Bennett’s car, and drove away.

But I digress…..If the C Club is actually a fiscal conservative club then they have endorsed some pretty good candidates such as Mayor Whitmire. If the C is for Confusing then they are spot on in their support of Council Member Willie Davis who was the least qualified to run for City Council. The Chronicle lists the C Club as endorsing Kim Ogg. I’m not sure how to address this.

Ogg’s other endorsements include the Who’s Who of law enforcement including members of the Houston Police Union who have recently endorsed some pretty good candidates. She has the endorsement of Mayor Annie Parker, and others including:

Ogg has collected several endorsements from members of the law enforcement community, including Harris County Afro-American Sheriff’s Deputies League, Houston Police Officers’ Union Executive Director Ray Hunt, HPOU President Doug Griffith, Pct. 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton, Pct. 2 Constable Jerry Garcia, former Harris County Sheriff’s Office Captain Frank Stilley, former HCSO Major Greg Summerlin and former Houston Police Department Chief C.O. “Brad” Bradford.

Sean Teare, on the other hand, has the endorsement of the Who’s Who of Who’s That? The list includes various Democratic clubs and little known organizations. Texas Organizing Project, an organization that provides great ground work for candidates, has endorsed Teare but lately they have endorsed extreme left candidates and has been financed by known socialists. I don’t think Teare is an extreme anything. He is well qualified for the job. He has great experience. From the Chronicle:

He’s also been endorsed by Area 5 Democrats, NAKASEC Action Fund Texas, the Women’s Association of Lawyers, Houston Black American Democrats, the Working Families Party and Harris County Tejano Dems.

Working Families Party is a far left, socialist group. Like the C Club I wouldn’t put too much into their endorsement. I had to google NAKASEC. Teare is also endorsed by a number of elected officials including Judge Hidalgo, Commissioner Rodney Ellis, State Representative Gene Wu.

For the record I have been pretty clear about who I would support. DA Ogg has been in office for 7 years. She seems to have an ongoing feud with Judge Hidalgo. She has every right and duty to investigate the situation with the COVID contract but it’s the way she has handled the situation. It’s divisive. It’s troubling. The cooperation between the DAs office and Commissioners Court has to get better.

Bu then again maybe I just need to chill out with a cold Bud Light and Michael Berry.

Raising Campaign Cash: Dan Simons for Harris County DA

February 13, 2024

You’re probably asking yourself “Who the fuck is Dan Simons”?

Dan is the Republican nominee for Harris County District Attorney. He is an attorney and a man of the people posing with his convertible Porsche on his website. According to his website he specializes in DWI cases. He ran for judge in 2018 and lost. He ran for judge in 2022, lost, then filed suit. That suit was dismissed.

While the Democratic candidates competing in the primary have raised millions in donations, Simons has raised $15,000 of which $15,000 came from his own pocket. I’m wondering if even Mattress MAGAt Mac would come to his rescue in the general election.

He won’t.
