I’ve lived in Senate District 11 which covers parts of Harris County, Brazoria, and Galveston since 1981. I can tell you a thing or two about Mayes Middleton, his money problems, his racist comments, and his lack of attention to the district.
Money Mayes Middleton Money Problems
Middleton has a habit of self financing his campaigns. He spent $2 million of his own money to win a primary for House District 32. He spent another $2 million of his own money to win the Senate race. Now he is poised to spend $50 million for his race for Attorney General. In just the year 2026 he has raised $8.9 Million with $5.8 Million coming from his own pocket. Needless to say Mayes is wealthy and entitled to the position. He has enough money to self finance and will spend whatever it takes to win. Ask Congressman Chip Roy.
His Racist Comments
Mayes has a problem with the Asian community. In 2025 he posted about State Representative Gene Wu, a Chinese American representing the Houston area. When contacted about the tweet by Click2Houston he ignored them. Others were clearly not happy:
“Senator Middleton represents a very diverse population in the Bay Area,” the group said. “The state does not need an individual running for the highest legal office in the state who spouts off racist comments. Middleton claims to be a conservative and devout Christian but making racist comments are neither a conservative value nor a Christian value.”

Missing in Action
Ever since being elected to office Middleton has been missing in action. He has never held a town hall meeting with this constituents. He has only addressed the business community, extreme right wing religious organizations, and republican party gatherings. Mayes sat on the Business and Commerce Committee responsible for oversight of the Insurance Industry. His claim to fame is stopping a modest 10% increase requested by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) leaving the tax payers to pay for any future claims. Others in the Bay Area have been hammered by the rising cost of insurance with increases of 50% or more and companies refusing to insure properties.
Legislature Failures
Instead of working to lower the cost of living in the Bay Area or supporting our public schools Mayes spent his time to force teachers to place posters of the 10 Commandments in their classrooms and posters that say “In God we Trust” all while our schools are starved for cash. He supported the school Voucher scam that provided billions in tax dollars going to private schools. He is a Christian Nationalist and will continue to force his version of Christianity on others. Middleton voted to put guns into the hands of those who shouldn’t have them resulting a a horrible school shooting in Uvalde. Along with his Christian values, he loves guns and giving easy access to them.
At least Mayes hasn’t had an affair or has been impeached. If he did he would be a shoe in for the Texas Attorney General’s position.
