This is what you are supporting. Extremists. They are NOT Democrats. They are the lightning rod for the party. Watch the FoxNews interview co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America:

The Democratic Party needs to put a line in the sand. Instead of inviting the head of DSA, Bernie Sanders, to be the keynote speaker they need to be telling him and DSA to stay the fuck out of our party. We DO NOT support these extreme views. These people are sick.

John, respectfully, chill out. I get that the word “socialism” has been drilled into your head as a boogie man since you were a young Texan. The current Texas curriculum that is teaching elementary social studies teachers has a slide with 12 year old kids chanting “capitalism rocks!” unironically after a slide titled “how to identify propaganda”. Texas will not become communist or socialist, and yes they are different. Don’t do the right’s work by parroting their talking point. Do I agree that maybe the word “socialism” isn’t the best word to use out in public in texas and many other states. Sure, maybe the word “socialism” is fraught with some peril…. but let the super progressive areas like park slope brooklyn use it! It works there because they are sick of mealy mouthed equivocators starting the negotiation on the floor then digging a hole below that when they have a progressive mandate with maybe 85% of voters being democrats. DSA, They are asking for totally normal and popular stuff. affordable health care, the ability to have stable housing and food, the ability to build a better life, clean air and water. They are fighting for humane immigration systems. They want our tax dollars to be used to buy a social safety net rather than to bomb foreign countries and give tax breaks to polluters. Let the super progressive areas move the Overton window a bit because lord knows the super MAGA types are asking for truly radical unsafe and hateful things. And sometimes The DSA can find strange bedfellows on a specific issue and get great stuff accomplished.
Try running on their talking points in a close district.
I feel like there is more nuance around this than what you are saying (although you are not at all wrong about what that messaging is in that video!) I am working with a young volunteer in his 20s for registering voters and getting Dems to the polls in my neighborhood. He has been highly involved in DSA efforts and candidates. I think the other person I work closely with is very Bernie Sanders friendly. But, they are working within our framework and messaging towards our one goal of electing Dems who are on the ballot. I think we have to get clear on how we are going to include everyone who wants to join in with electing Dems, or else we lose races we badly need to win.
Go watch their convention
My belief is that we cannot go back to the way it was before Trump. I donate to Forward Blue, The Progressive Change Campaign Committee and to individual candidates. One of the candidates I like is Michigan’s Abdul El- Sayed. I have watched two of his debates with Stevens and he has won both. Stevens seems to be more republican light as her donors seem to be the same ones who are funding the republican running for senate. That is a real problem for me. BUT I always vote for the democrat in the general elections.
