There is more to this than just Bowen. That will deserve another post.
Scott Bowen, the former CCISD trustee, is now running for State Representative, presenting himself as the candidate who will represent the MAGA movement in the Bay Area. If elected, voters can expect him to support Governor Greg Abbott’s legislative agenda with little independence. That likely includes expanding Texas’ school voucher program and backing the governor’s priorities rather than advocating for the unique needs of our community. Greg Abbott will ride Scott like a birthday pony at a Catholic fall festival.
Bowen’s literature says he is campaigning on promises that include:
“Support Education – Keep our kids, staff, and teachers safe while on campus & focus curriculum on education, not politics.”
That claim deserves scrutiny as well as a loud “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!”
During his time on the CCISD Board of Trustees, Bowen injected politics into local education rather than keeping it out. He sponsored a resolution on behalf of the Texas Republican Party endorsing Governor Abbott’s school voucher scheme. He recruited partisan, unqualified candidates to challenge incumbent trustees, with outside PAC money playing a significant role in those campaigns.
Harris County voters rejected Bowen by an eight-point margin in his last election. His record on the school board demonstrated his lack of political skills which resulted in his lack of accomplishments. Those same concerns now follow his campaign for the Texas House.
Bowen’s campaign is supported by outside of the district political money. His campaign materials identify Texans for Greg Abbott as the source of funding for his door hanger. The PAC has tens of millions of dollars available to support candidates who will advance the governor’s agenda. Critics argue that Bowen has consistently relied on outside PAC support rather than building broad financial backing from within the district. (All documented at bayareahouston.net/ScottBowen)
The question for Bay Area voters is straightforward: Do you want a representative who will primarily advance the priorities of Austin’s political leadership, or someone who will put the interests of this community first? It is clear Scott Bowen will take a knee to Greg Abbott.
Folks, it is time to pony up.
BTW The MAGA hats were added for clarity.
