People in Texas are furious—and for good reason. From skyrocketing prices on gas, diesel, home insurance, and healthcare to general inflation and ICE abuses, the frustration is palpable.
This discontent was front and center at The Texas Tribune’s “Texas Democratic Agenda” panel, featuring State Senator Carol Alvarad, State Representatives Barbara Gervin-Hawkins and Gene Wu. Representing a diverse cross-section of Texas voters, the panel stood in stark contrast to the Republican session, which featured three white men in matching blue suits. The venue choice and turnout said it all: the Democrats packed the large St. David’s Sanctuary, while the Republicans struggled to fill a much smaller room.
The lawmakers didn’t mince words. They laid Texas’s current struggles squarely at the feet of 30 years of uninterrupted Republican leadership, dismissing GOP promises—like a theoretical $5,000 check—as empty desperation. Voters are exhausted by the childish antics at the top of the party and feel deeply betrayed.
