Scott Bowen’s $1.1 Million Campaign in Detail.

Political campaign graphic showing a crowned man labeled “PAC Man,” highlighting PAC donations to Austin State Representative candidate Scott Bowden and urging voters to vote local.

In political terms this is just obscene.

I’ve been following the money in campaigns for about 25 years and I have never seen such an abuse of the political system as Scott Bowen’s campaign for State Representative. If you think Bowen is going to represent you, you might want to think again because he owes a few PACs a lot of time and effort.

Fundraising: Bowen raised $1.1 Million for a race he should have won by 15 or more points. He won by 1 point. Of the $1.1 Million $991,290 came from out of district PACs. Only $134,718 came from individuals and of that $130,358 came from out of the district. Only $4,360 or about .4% of his total donations came from House District 129, the very district he is suppose to represent. Here is a breakdown of his total contributions:

AmountEntity% of Total
$1,115,635Total100.00%
$991,290PACs88.00%
$134,718Individuals12.00%
$4,360In District0.40%

The largest PAC donors to Bowen includes Texans for Lawsuit Reform for $530,437 over half of his entire donations. Defend Texas Liberty is funded by Bowen’s Billionaire Buddies from Dallas. They are now called Texans for a Conservative Majority after they were caught meeting with a known white supremacist. And the surprising donation of $17,500 came from the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. Go figure. Here are the largest PAC donors:

EntityAmount
Texans for Lawsuit Reform$530,437
Texans for a Conservative Majority$267,350
Defend Texas Liberty$65,000
Texas Trial Lawyers$17,500

Spending: Bowen’s campaign spent $520,222 on various items including $203,920 on advertising, $112,099 on Consulting and $100,147 on printing. The campaign and the PACs spending on polling was over $50,000. Obviously they knew something was up and that Bowen in an R+15 district was vulnerable. They were right. He only won by 832 votes. Here are the totals on these expenditures:
