League City Council Seat Challenge: Justin Hicks vs Joe Italiano

August 16, 2024

This could be interesting.

Justin Hicks, Corporal Chaos of League City, has drawn a challenger for his city council seat. Joe Italiano initially filed for position 3 but moved to position 5. Italiano is a Certified Public Accountant. Justin Hicks is a bankruptcy survivor.

Italiano has an impressive resume. According to this linkedIn account:

Chief Financial Officer with entrepreneurial spirit and track record of accelerating sales growth and building enterprise value in both Public and Private Equity sponsored companies. Led the successful execution of liquidity events, recapitalization of capital structures, acquisitions, divestitures, and turnarounds. Experienced with International finance and operations in diverse markets that include Industrial, Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronics, Consumer, Materials, Packaging and Automotive.

Named one of Houston’s Top 25 CFO’s for 2024.

Courtney Chadwell is the only council member that is not being challenged……as of yet. Election information can be found here. Hopefully League City voters will restore civility and fiscal responsibility to Council.

Loaded AR 15’s and machetes allowed at the Texas State Fair

August 15, 2024

Why could possibly of wrong?

According to the Houston Chronicle, after a shooting at the Texas State Fair the city of Dallas voted to ban weapons from the fair starting in 2024. Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, has vowed legal action if the city does not back down. Paxton stated “It is a god given right for everyday Texans to enjoy a family oriented event like the State Fair while carrying a loaded AR 15, sword, machete, or brass knuckles.”

Paxton didn’t actually say that but that is what can happen. Carrying a loaded assault weapon or sword, machete, knives, or brass knuckles in public are all legal in the State. Paxton believes the Fair should be open to open carry because that is what defines Texas and Texans. He continued “You never know if one of the illegal alien vendors will attack your family with a piping hot funnel cake or with an overly spicy taco. MUY PICANTE!”

What could be possibly go wrong? Really. Someone tell me.

Harris County DA’s Press Conference on 2022 election fraud fizzles

August 14, 2024

I’ve said it before. Whomp Whomp.

It’s over. Finally. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg held a press conference (video here) detailing the election fraud charges concerning the 2022 elections. The two year investigation found no evidence of election fraud. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada. Just like the Secretary of State stated in their 147 page report:

Texas Secretary of State, Jane Nelson, a Republican issued a 147 page report on the audit of the 2022 election in Harris County. In short the Republican said “The allegations of election fraud in the 2022 Harris County election are total bullshit.”.

Ogg said the same thing. So Ogg, Mattress MAGAt Mac, Senator Paul Bettencourt, and all the whiny little bitches of the Harris County Republican Party were left with egg on their faces. The 22 frivolous lawsuits have been dismissed or withdrawn. In the end it was a complete waste of time, resources, and press conferences.

Ogg did file charges against a worker assigned to providing supplies, including the paper ballots, claiming he was working two jobs possibly at the same time and he neglected his duties. This led to a paper shortage in a couple of voting locations. The SOS could not find a single voter that was affected by this. Not one. If this employee was double dipping then that is something that needs to be addressed by the court but again there was no fraud. None.

It is time to get over it. Quit whining. You lost. Again.

Caught on Camera: CCISD Trustee Scott Bowen voucher support

August 7, 2024

He is real proud of this.

Scott Bowen, Corporal Chaos of CCISD was caught on camera. He was supporting the voucher scheme which will take more funding away from the district. He proudly authored a resolution at the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) in support of “educational freedom”. That is code words for vouchers. The resolution goes on to demand Governor Abbott to place the issue as an “emergency item”. This should be done in the next legislation session coming in 2025. An emergency item has priority over all other bills.

Bowen has a history of advocating against public education as a Trustee of CCISD. Last year a formal grievance was filed against him. He used his position during a hearing in Austin to advocate against the school district’s board. His 3 minutes of fame was caught on camera. The bill eventually failed but he got his digs in.

Vouchers are very popular in the Republican Party. The voucher scheme will give parents $8000. This amount is much more than they pay in school taxes. It will partially pay for their kids private school tuition. It’s welfare for the wealthy. Private schools are very expensive. Only the wealthy, who are wealthy enough to not need a handout, can afford them. There is nothing good about vouchers.

Nothing.

Junior League Galveston County’s Response to Book Complaint: Promoting Equity and Inclusion

August 7, 2024

This was awkward.

The Junior League Galveston County (JLGC) is a non partisan organization dedicated to empowering young women. Take a moment and visit their website. It’s impressive.

In early June Natalie Sharp, the Executive Vice President Elect of JLGC, wrote an email to the Holly Hall Library staff and the Book Burning Bitch Justin Hicks complaining about a book titled Big Wig. She signed the email with her JLGC title. According to JLGC she was not authorized to do that. You can read that email here. (open records requests can be a gold mine)

Yesterday JLGC responded. As I thought they do not involve themselves with book burning nonsense. From the letter:

Creating and sustaining a diverse Membership is critical to our Mission. We are dedicated to centering equity, inclusion, and belonging in our individual, organizational, and community relationships. We believe that living these values strengthens our community and aligns with our commitment to fostering understanding and respect among all our members.

Suck it Justin.

More book banning nonsense in League City

August 6, 2024

League City is like the Jelly of the Month club. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Mayor Pro Tem Justin Hick’s fingerprints are all over this. An email sent to the Holly Hall Library staff and Hicks from Natalie Sharp called for the removal of a book, Big Wig, from the library. I doubt if Ms Sharp has read every book in the library so she is probably just repeating what other right wing extremists are spouting and Justin is the perfect person to monitor this major issue.

But that isn’t the real issue here. Natalie is the Executive Vice President of the Junior League of Galveston County. According to their website:

Above all else, our goal is to promote and perpetuate social change in the Galveston County and Southeast Texas communities that will benefit most from it. By empowering women and providing valuable leadership training, we are giving local women the tools to get involved, put their talents to work, and positively impact their local communities.

Take some time to visit JLGC. They seem to be a great organization, established in 1952, empowering young women in Galveston County. It seems an email like Natalie’s doesn’t reflect their organizations values or purpose and they might not too happy with her representing their organization on such a divisive issue. She also incorrectly referenced a website that is not the JLGC.

RNC Delegate: “What happened to us?”

August 5, 2024

I have been asking this question for many, many years.

Good morning. I missed satire Sunday.

Implications of Young Progressive Endorsements in Sheila Jackson Lee’s Replacement Race

August 4, 2024

God bless Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee for her service to her district and our country.

Because of SJL passing the Democratic precinct chairs in Congressional District 18 will nominate a candidate to replace her on the ballot in November. The district is heavily Democratic and the nominated candidate will most probably win in November. Candidates running for this seat include former Council Member Amanda Edwards, former Mayor Sylvester Turner, and others.

Hopefully the precinct chairs will read the room. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard “progressives” whine about long time politicians not moving aside and letting younger people have a chance at governing. Well, that happened last month at the every top of the Democratic ticket and Vice President Kamala Harris is now our nominee for President.

I’m not a fan of anyone running on “I will be the youngest…. whatever if elected”. Age doesn’t make you a good candidate for any office unless it’s to lead as president of your middle school student government. Applicable experience and the ability to execute the duties of the office is more important than your age. To have a candidate that is energetic, experienced, intelligent, capable of performing the duties of the job, and is young is a winning candidate.

Amanda Edwards is a winning candidate yet many “progressives” are endorsing Mayor Sylvester Turner. WTF? There is no doubt Mayor Turner has the experience for the job. None. What so ever. That isn’t my issue. Amanda has earned a shot at this seat. She worked hard to win the primary even after SJL re-entered the race after losing the election for Mayor. She checks all the boxes and she is young. It’s a win-win and yet young “progressives” are endorsing Turner. It’s a WTF moment.

So if young “progressives” want to endorse Turner then for fuck sakes stop complaining about younger people not being given the chance to lead. The chance is there and your “Younger People Need to Lead” card has been revoked. Here are Mayor Turners endorsements:
