Breaking: Galveston County to investigate Jimmy Fullen campaign

October 6, 2024

Who would have thunk it?

Jimmy Fullen is on the left at a fundraiser.

Galveston County will begin an investigation of the Jimmy Fullen for Sheriff campaign. This was announced in a press release issued during the middle of the night to limit media exposure. “There are serious allegations against Mr. Fullen the county can no longer ignore. We are a nation of law and order. We must hold candidates to the highest standards of the office, no matter the party affiliation. Because of this we have initiated an investigation of Jimmy Fullen’s campaign.”

The county was recently approached by the State Republican Party with information concerning the Fullen campaign. The Party issued the following statement: “We are a party of law and order and of the highest moral and ethical standards. Last weekend Mr. Fullen crossed the line of decency therefore we have asked the County to investigate one of our own. Mr. Fullen’s actions have soiled the great name of the Republican Party. We will not stand idle.”

“We are also a party of moral values, values that are enshrined in our Presidential Candidate, Donald Trump. Dressing up like a drag queen goes against our values and principals. Our party might tolerate falsifying government documents, unless it involves Hunter Biden. However, dressing in drag and prancing around on stage with other republicans officials cannot be tolerated.”

“We pray the County will take immediate action.” Let us prey and welcome to Satire Sunday.

Biden to bail out Abbott to fix the electrical grid

October 5, 2024

Texas Strong my ass.

The Federal Government is bailing out Texas, again, this time to help connect Texas to the Southeast grids. So much for “Texas Strong” but in the end we will get a more fortified grid when we need it. According to Electrek:

The US Department of Energy (DOE) announces $1.5B for four transmission projects – including connecting the Texas grid to the Southeast grids for the first time ever.

The projects, spanning multiple states, will add nearly 1,000 miles of new transmission lines and increase grid capacity by 7,100 megawatts (MW). They’ll boost grid reliability, lower energy costs, and support the clean energy transition.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott was seen at the border with his hand out begging for help. Of this $1.5 B about $350 Million will be allocated to Texas. Texas grid was wrecked back in 2021 leaving millions without power during a heavy freeze for 4 days. Hundreds died. Insurance claims for ruptured pipes and damage to the homes skyrocketed. Yet Abbott did nothing. He passed the cost of these repairs to the grid on to the consumers.

With a $350 M donation to Texas will fund the Southern Spirit:

Southern Spirit (Texas to Mississippi): This is a REALLY. BIG. DEAL. Spanning 320 miles, this HVDC line will link Texas’ isolated ERCOT grid with the Southeast grids for the first time, adding 3,000 MW of bidirectional capacity across Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. It’s designed to prevent outages like the ones during Winter Storm Uri that hit Texas hard in 2021. It’s expected to create 850 construction jobs and 305 permanent jobs.

Stupid Texas.

Vacation Review: Tanzania Safari. Our tour company.

October 3, 2024

If the accommodations had had larger coffee cups this vacation would have been perfect! (but it really was perfect!)

Access2Tanzania.com
We spent 11 days visiting Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania which the locals pronounce Tan-Zan-ee-uh not Tan-za-nee-uh. We booked with Access2Tanzania almost a year in advance and they did not disappoint. From the time they picked us up at the Kilimanjaro Airport till the time they dropped us off 11 days later they took care of us, kept us safe, and made our trip absolutely perfect! They provided guidelines and timelines to make sure we had all necessary vaccines, documents, VISAs and more. The food and drinks at every accomodation was all safe to eat and drink. It was worry free. They really took care of us!

Danny
Danny was our guide. You can read his bio and reviews here. He made our trip absolutely perfect. He has hawk eyes and could spot animals in the distant where we needed binoculars. As an example while other tours were viewing a nearby lion Danny noticed strange movements by a number of hyenas which led us to a lion eating a fresh kill. The hyenas eventually surrounded the lion wanting to steal her kill. (video here) This was just one of the many times Danny found different animals to view and we saw many including the Big 5, the Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Elephant, and the Cape buffalo. We spent 11 days with Danny and we enjoyed every bit of it! He was friendly, knowledgeable and just fun to be around. It was a very emotional event when he dropped us off at the airport.

Accommodations
We spent 2 nights at the Rivertree resort in Arusha after landing at Kilimanjaro Airport. This gave us time to adjust to the time change, grab some local currency, visit the city, and shop. Rivertree was awesome! Food was provided at all of our locations as well as safe water to drink and a fully stocked bar! We had a 6 hour wait for our flight to go home. They gave us a room for a few hours so we could take a quick nap, shower, eat, and get ready for the long trip. It was very nice!

We then spent a couple of nights in Tarangire National Park in tents. (clamping) it was a very comfortable large tent with a king sized bed, bathroom, and shower. Showers had to be completed prior to 6 PM since the workers could not safely fill up the water bag at night. We could not leave the tent without calling for an escort due to the animals being close by. In the morning we would look for tracks. At night we heard lions and hyenas.

We spent another 2 nights at the Lions Paw in the Ngorongoro Crater. The rooms were again in very nice tents and were as nice as many fancy hotels I have stayed at. The main area had a beautiful restaurant and a large outdoor viewing area with campfires and a bar.

The rest of the time we were in the Serengeti National Park, again in large tents. The staff at every location were friendly and very helpful. They all were very helpful and waited on us. If we needed anything they were there to help. As an example we thought our last place had laundry service and were confused when the clothes were not taken. The next day they had our clothes cleaned and folded!

The Safari
Each day Danny would pick us up in a Toyota Range Rover. It had a top that could be pushed up so we could stand and view. We were told that the ride would be bumpy and dusty but all very well worth it. They were right! We bought scarfs to protect us from the dust. All of the seats had extra padding. Danny would find the animals and position us to the best viewing area. A hot lunch was provided sometimes at a picnic location or in the middle of no where. It was local food cooked by the chef at the camping ground. On a couple of days we left early in the morning and had breakfast and lunch in the field.

The Villages
We visited a couple of villages and met with the locals. They cooked a great lunch providing different samples of local foods. They gave us a tour of the banana plantations and shared some banana beer with us. Banana beer is a social drink that is always shared with others. We met some kids, age 12 and 14, who walked 7 miles each morning to take their 75 goats to a grazing pasture and back home in the evening. We were taken on a canoe ride on the lake. Everyone was very nice and in good spirits.

I’ll post some pics of the animals we saw in the next post. If you are interested in an Africa Safari consider Access2Tanzania as your tour company. You will have a vacation of a lifetime!

Are you a racist if you sponsor a fundraiser for a racist?

September 21, 2024

In my book, yes.

It’s time we call a spade a spade. Enough being nice about this. If anyone is sponsoring a fundraiser for a fucked up human being like Trump then they are also fucked up human beings no matter how much money they have or how much they give to charities.

What does it say about your rich white ass when you support someone who says racist things about Haitians, Blacks, Latinos, Asians? Who attacks the gay community, Muslims, teachers, police officers, Palestinians, and Jews?

It says you are a fucked up human being. A truly fucked up, rotten, human being

Jimmy Fullen Under Investigation: Loan Controversy Deepens

September 16, 2024

Jimmy Fullen, candidate for Galveston County Sheriff, is under investigation by the Texas Ethics Commission (TEC) concerning a personal $100,000 loan he reported in his July 2023 campaign finance report. In February of 2024 that loan vanished. You can view all of his reports here.

Recently Fullen filed 4 amended reports concerning his multiple loans. His reports can be reviewed at the Galveston County campaign finance website. The amended reports list a loan from Mark Henry for $24,059.46, a personal loan for $32,000, and then a “personal loan from self was removed on form e”. That last one is bothering. It doesn’t list an amount.

But that was the $100,000 personal loan he reported on his July 2023 report. He claimed to have loaned his campaign the $100,000 on February 9, 2023. His amended report filed 20 months later simply removes this loan from the books exactly like the TEC complaint alleges.

The original issue was that he padded his campaign report making it look like he was rolling in cash when he actually wasn’t. His Cash on Hand should have been reduced from $204,000 to $104,000. During this reporting period he was running against an opponent in the primary. It has been my experience that the Texas Ethics Commission frowns upon padding a campaign report especially when the candidate has an opponent. Fullen’s treasurer hand writes all his reports. This wasn’t a technical error.

It seems clear that by filing this amended report he has admitted to padding his report and breaking the laws of the Texas Ethics Commission. If you can’t follow the law how can you enforce the law?

League City Children Center sues City Council Member

September 15, 2024

It’s hard to make this stuff up so early in the morning! From a press release:

(League City, Texas) September 15, 2024. On Friday, the League City Children Center filed suit against League City Major Pro Tem Justin Hicks for defamation of character. According to the LCCC attorney, Anne Takeitt, “Over the last few weeks Justin Hicks has been playing some kind of election campaign game against a newly formed Political Action Committee, Kick Hicks. This game concerns the placing of campaign signs throughout our great city. Our organization, the League City Children Center, has nothing to do with this activity or the placement of the signs yet it has been described by many as being childish. We find this description of this activity to be demeaning to the children of League City and demand an immediate apology from Hicks and his campaign staff”.

Anne Takeitt of Benjamin Dover, Anne Takeitt, and C. Howitt Hertz law firm has demanded an apology from Hicks and for him to cease and desist from perpetuating this childish game of sign wars. According to the lead plaintiff, Shelley Smith, age 3, “Justin Hicks is a poopie head.”

OMG! Judge throws out all fugitive arrest warrants!!!! (now… the rest of the story)

September 13, 2024

Leave it to the Fox News.

The Fox News headline was bad. Real bad. Almost as bad as Trump’s debate performance. Ok, not that bad, but bad nevertheless. “Harris County Justice of the Peace Court Judge throws out all outstanding warrants”. Of course this headline created a frenzy of fake outrage such as “It’s exactly what shouldn’t happen by a judge in the 21st Century,” and “My reaction was this is nuts,”. (White wing MAGAt Senator Paul Bettencourt) The best display of fake outrage was from Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg:

“We only recently were made aware of Judge Duble’s inexplicable decision to grant fugitives a free pass in his courtroom. This decision can endanger the lives of the public and of our law-enforcement officers.”

So….what is the rest of the story? Well the Judge issued a detailed response which can be read here. Let me summarize. The warrants are for Class C MISDEMEANORS such as bad checks, traffic violations, and evictions. These cases would result in fines not to exceed $500. Now I have to agree with Chris Tritico when he said “I’ve never seen this happen in the 37 years I’ve been doing this,”. He is right. It is strange but….

The execution of the warrants would require several police officers to be pulled off the streets to make the arrest of the bad check writers instead of fighting real crime. They would have to take the time to book the individual. The fugitive would be put in jail then released once bail is made. All for what? A $500 fine? The Judge continues in his explanation that most of these individuals are making arrangements to pay the fine, some are struggling with the payment.

And to top it off, not one, not one single individual had their charges dismissed. They are still required to pay their fines. They will still be held accountable. And none of them will endanger the lives of law enforcement. None. Zero. Zip. Nada.

So. Learn how to read past the headlines before acting like an uninformed idiot.

Trump’s Newspaper Endorsements: A 2024 Outlook

September 11, 2024

After his unhinged performance against Vice President Harris it will be interesting to see if any newspapers will endorse him in 2024.

In 2016 only 7 out of 154 newspapers across the country endorsed Trump for President including The Washington Times, The Topeka Capital-Journal, The Oklahoman, The Florida Times, Savannah Morning News, Santa Barbara News, Las Vegas News Journal, and the Republican American.

In 2020 only 4 of these 7 endorsed him again but he picked up a total of 14 endorsements out of 154. Since then Trump was impeached again, started a riot and watched the rioters for over 3 hours storm the United States Capitol. He has been indicted on over 80 felony counts in Georgia, Florida, New York, and Washington DC, and has been convicted on 34 counts concerning his 30 second romping with a porn star.

He has been found to have sexually assaulted and defamed a woman costing him over $100 Million. He has been fined over $450 Million for fraud in New York.

And then he got his ass kicked in the debate. Bad. Real Bad. Even Fox News said so. You can visit WikiPedia to see who the 154 newspapers endorsed in 2016 and 2020.

League City sign wars.

September 10, 2024

Leave it to Mayor Pro Tem Justin Hicks.

Signs do not win elections. Sign wars are petty and are left to the candidate that doesn’t have much of a campaign to run. Justin Hicks is one of these candidates. A new Political Action Committee, the KickHicks.com PAC, was formed to oppose the reelection of Hicks. You should take a look at the website. It has all of Hicks’ bankruptcy documents, articles and more.

Hicks’ took some time from reaching out to constituents, house parties, and other real campaign activities to play sign games. (Hicks’ really isn’t doing any of this) The Kick Hicks PAC has signs placed near Hicks’ signs questioning his ability to be a “fiscal conservative” while being mired in debt and bankruptcy. Hicks’ campaign and supporters had to play games by cutting down the Kick Hicks signs or placing his signs in order to cover the oppositions signs. It’s petty. It’s a waste of time and all you ever get is bad publicity or a two bit blogger posting about it. I am posting about it.

Hicks’ opponent has place signs throughout the district and is meeting with voters in the area. He isn’t playing games. He is acting like a grownup.
