The case against student loan forgiveness

March 18, 2024

Hear me out.

The Biden administration has been trying to forgive federal student loans for thousands of students. So far he has been semi-successful. There are a lot of obstacles remaining and I doubt if he could get a bill passed in Congress no matter who is in control of the two chambers. I’ve got a problem with loan forgiveness.

I feel the pain of those who are saddled with debt. I walked out of school with a loan that took 10 years to pay off but I paid it. My biggest concern about loan forgiveness is when does it stop. Let’s assume next year Biden is successful in wiping out all federal student loans. What happens to the loans the following year? And the year afterward? When does the forgiveness stop? This is unsustainable.

Also who is expected to pay for this forgiveness? It’s not free money. Someone is going to pay for it and it’s the taxpayers. Yes student loan debt is a problem but simply forgiving a loan that someone agreed to is not the answer.

Instead how about eliminating the interest on the loan as long as the debt is paid on a periodic basis. How about giving credits to those who work in education, the military, or other qualified professions? How about giving credits to those who volunteer with various organizations that benefit your community? How about helping those with debt instead of just giving them a free ride for something they agreed to?

Then how about fixing the damn problem so it won’t continue to happen? Interest rates should be low or completely eliminated. Loans should not be bloated by adding on non school related expenses such as entertainment. How about regulating the cost of education based upon income? And once the loan is due the payments should be flexible based upon income. There are many ways to relieve student debt.

Forgiveness isn’t that way.

Greg Abbott calls to change 95 year old Texas Motto

March 17, 2024

According to the Texas State Historical Association: The word Friendship was adopted as the Texas state motto by the Forty-first Texas Legislature in February 1930. The word was probably chosen because the name Texas or Tejas was the Spanish pronunciation of a Caddo Indian word sometimes translated to mean “friends” or “allies.”

Today Governor Abbott will ask the Texas Legislature to change the motto. “After nearly 100 years it is time that we, as conservatives, change the motto of our great State to something that reflects the current state of the State and one that adequately represents who we are.”

So in 2025 my first bill I will sign will be to change our motto from Friendship to Fuck You. If you are gay, fuck you. If you are a gun violence survivor, fuck you. If you are a Jew, Muslim, or any non-christian, fuck you. If you are from out of state, in law enforcement, in the military, or a Mexican, fuck you.

And if you are a teacher, in the words of Mattress Mac, FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU!

That is who we are. That is what we have become. So, fuck you, fuck off, and welcome to Satire Sunday.

Questions to ask candidates for CCISD Trustee

March 16, 2024

Difficult questions should be asked.

CCISD will hold an election for District 4 on May 4, 2024. You can find all election information at their Elections Webpage. Candidates are being asked questions about why they are running. Community Impact posted the District 4 candidates, Jeff Larson and Albert Wittliff responses to their generic questions. I believe we need to ask a few more pointed questions. If you have other questions that need to be asked please contact me.

Fundraising. In the past few years significant money has been spent by out of district PACs and a particular political party trying to influence the vote. What is your opinion of accepting funds or in-kind contributions from these PACs and organizations?

Politics in Schools. Over the past few years CCISD has had major disruptions by board members bringing in divisive topics such as CRT, which has never been taught, is not taught, and will never be taught in CCISD schools. What are your thoughts about divisive topics being pushed by political parties?

Book bans. What are your thoughts about our public school libaries and the push to ban books?

Vouchers. School vouchers, or what some call school “choice” is very unpopular within the district and will drain much needing funding from the district. Would you support a resolution by the Board in support or against school vouchers?

Funding.
School funding in Texas has become an incredible mess. How can you on the board influence our elected officials to adequately fund our schools?

LGBTQ Issues
Our gay community has been under attack by anti-gay organizations some right here in the CCISD area. What are your thoughts about our gay community within CCISD including our teachers, parents, and students? Do you support the attacks by these organizations? Do you support attacks on any marginalized members of our community?

Safety
The district has spent millions of dollars fortifying schools yet the playgrounds, practice fields, and busses are still not safe from an individual with a military style weapon. Is there anything else the district can do?

Chaplains in School
The district can vote to have religious chaplains replace professional counselors at schools. Do you support this. If so do you support people of all religions serving as counselors? Do you have any exceptions such as a ban on Buddists, Muslims, or Nuwaubians?

A guide to the Texas Democratic Convention

March 16, 2024

My first convention was in El Paso!

I’ve been to every Texas Democratic Party Convention since 1992 (or 1994). They are fun, energizing, and informative. You can find all the information for the convention at the Texas Democratic Party website texasdemocraticconvention.com. You can also sign up to be a delegate. Here is a guide for those who have never attended before.

Hotel
Book early. If you can try reserving in the host hotel, the Marriott. It’s were all the action is at. Check this website for the hotels the TDP has reserved.

Become a Delegate to the State Convention
Attend the county convention if you can. It is on March 23, Saturday. You can find information about the Harris County Convention here. Sign up to be a delegate to the State Convention. If you cannot attend the County Convention you can still be a delegate to the State. Contact your county chair.

General Schedule.
Thursday is the kickoff party.
Friday is the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) meeting in the morning. Various Caucus and training meetings will take place. Speeches by elected officials will take place at night.
Saturday the Congressional District Delegates will convene and elected delegates to the National Convention. There will be more speeches Saturday night. The convention ends on Saturday evening but the parties will continue.

Kick Off Party
Thursday evening is the kickoff party of the convention. I always find it to be fun. It is a fundraiser so they will have a little food and a cash bar. Usually there is a speaker or more. It’s a good way to mingle with other like minded people. Plan for dinner before or after. Lots of elected officials usually attend this party.

Check in
You will find the check in desk at the convention center. I believe we will be checking in by congressional district this year. Find your district, and check in. You will receive a ballot for electing delegates to the National Convention. You will also receive a delegate badge, then find an organization that sells a lanyard and plastic holder. They usually sell them for a few dollars. You will also receive a tote bag with a program for the weekend.

Party Business
The State Democratic Executive Committee meets on Friday. The meeting is open if you care to attend. You will get an idea of what the party does at the SDEC meetings. (hint: It’s boring)

Lady Bird Breakfast
Early in the morning on Saturday is another fundraiser. Personally I would skip it especially if you had a late night on Friday.

Petitions
Do yourself and everyone else a favor. Don’t sign any petitions to get a resolution on the floor of the convention. If a resolution is important it will go through the proper channels for resolution. Fringe groups use this tactic to get controversial subjects brought to the floor for debate and voting. It’s usually a long, drawn out process, which results in a hill of beans. I am sure there will be something concerning the Israeli/Gaza situation.

Parties and hospitality suites
Many organizations will hold parties or hospitality suites with food and drinks. Find one that interests you and go meet like minded people. The Young Democrats usually put on a good event as well as the LGBTQ organization. Elected officials, counties, cities, and others will host at a suite in a hotel or at a local bar. Look for invitations in your convention bag or advertisements.

Caucuses and training
On Friday and Saturday there will be a number of organizations that will meet up. In the past I have been disappointed because the entire 2 hours are almost taken over by candidates wanting to talk. Some orgs put the candidates at the end of business. Some are very informal and others actually conduct business of electing leadership etc. Find one and attend. I personally like the Hispanic Caucuses (yes there are multiple) and the Gun Safety Caucus. There will also be training for VAN, how to run a campaign, etc. Again find one and attend.

Exhibits
Bring some money! There will be an Exhibit Hall area selling t-shirts, lanyards, etc as well as informational booths. Many years ago I had a booth concerning consumer issues. It was a very fun way to talk with people about issues concerning new home constructions, electricity, and home insurance.

Mexico
Mexico is a short walk across the bridge. You can enjoy great food, drinks and shopping. Bring your passport, stay with a group, and verify with the State Department on travel recommendations.

Enjoy the convention! Look for me at the bar!

It’s Fucking Friday: MAGAts infest the Republican Party

March 15, 2024

When you lie with tea baggers you could wake up with a bad taste in your mouth.

Randy Weber, the far white, insurrection loving, Congressman from League City is another Republican being eaten by the white MAGAts who have infested his party. These are the same MAGAts he invited and courted into the party, the same ones that support the twice impeached, 4 times indicted, porn star fucker. And now they have turned on him and others.

Weber has now been kicked out of the far white, extreme wing of the “Freedumb” Caucus. He wasn’t white enough for them and they didn’t have a hood big enough for his fat head. Weber is an extremist. He is pretty much just a piece of furniture. He can’t pass legislation. He is toxic. He believes his only job in Congress is to be a dick and he is very good at it. He hasn’t had a town hall meeting with his constituents during his 10 years in office.

League City Congressman Weber

Weber isn’t alone. The MAGAts have taken over the Republican National Committee led by Trump’s daughter in law and a known election denier. Donations will now go towards Trump’s legal bills. The white MAGAts have infested the Texas Legislature with help from a few billionaires, taking out a number of conservative legislators in the republican primary. The GOP is now a party of filth hell bent on chaos. They believe they are above the law but they use the law to file frivolous lawsuits concerning the mythical voter fraud. They can now usher in vouchers to continue eroding our public school system. They will not stop until they have eaten every conservative down to the bone.

This is what happens when you condone the behavior of a MAGAt. Your party is now infested. Bon appetit

League City Personal Finance Reports are online

March 13, 2024

All Personal Finance Reports for League City Council are available.

You can receive an electronic copy of the PFS by submitting an Open Records Request to the City Secretary or you can read them here. You can read them if you want but they are not very interesting except for Mayor Pro Tem Hicks. Hicks reported having been employed with TNM LLC out of Henrietta New York as a Projects Manager. He has a lot, I’m assuming that is his home, but the value is not listed. That’s it. I became interested in this TNM LLC and performed a search but could not find them. Hicks lists himself as a Project Manager. If you are looking for controversy this is all you will find.

The PFS should show more of the fiscal stability of each member including debts, lawsuits, liens, etc. The public should know if the individuals responsible for the fiscal well being of their city and stewards of their taxes are also fiscally responsible. It’s just common sense.

Other than that the PFSs are pretty boring. You can view Mayor Long and Mayor Pro Tem Hicks PFS here. The rest of the Council PFSs are here.

Believe me. They are boring.

More Dick! It’s getting old.

March 12, 2024

I just can’t get away from Dick.

Harris County Department of Education Trustee, Eric Dick, is at it again. This time he is meddling in Harris County Democratic Party primaries. Dick is a republican. He is a MAGAt and yet he donated $25,000 to a PAC called Community Justice. The PAC has filed 3 reports raising $136,000 with $125,000 coming from 4 individuals/organizations including ERIC DICK for $25,000.

Dick joined lawyers from the law firms of Lowenberg, Posch & Nguyen, Spagnoletti, and Armstrong Lee & Baker. One of the candidates they supported was Erica Hughes against a very popular and excellent Judge Mike Engelhart. Hughes won. I’m begging to wonder if these law firms had a case in front of Engelhart in the past.

Dick seems to have enough money to meddle in another party’s primary but he doesn’t have enough to pay his $40,000 fine issued by the Texas Ethics Commission.

What a dick.

Houston’s Gallery Furniture hosts Mom’s for Liberty three way

March 12, 2024

Praise the lord!

This ought to be interesting. Last year the co-founder of Mom’s for Liberty, Bridget Ziegler, was caught up in the sexual three way with her husband, Christina Zieger Chair of the Florida Republican Party, and a woman who has accused him of rape. There were a number of stories as well as videos.

Ziegler was appointed to the Sarasota School Board by Governor Ron DeSantis. She is still on the board even after parents called for her resignation. The accusation of rape has since been dropped by the woman but the Republican Party removed him as the Chair.

Mom’s for Liberty is a white wing, Florida based, extremist organization with chapters in 48 states. According to Bloomberg they have advocated for book banning, as well as:

fought against equal treatment for LGBTQ children, and railed against sex education and the teaching of Black history. Its members falsely claim there’s a widespread conspiracy in American schools to expose children to concepts about sexual orientation and gender identity that don’t conform to the Moms’ idea of traditional family values.

Bridget Ziegler

I guess they occasionally enjoy a three way once in a while. Great family values! And now they are coming to Houston’s own Gallery Furniture with Kirk Cameron, who has a boner for the Gay community. He claims a legal process called marriage is “unnatural” between same sex among other things. His interview on CNN is disturbing.

So come to Gallery Furniture and enjoy the event. (no videos please)

UPDATE: Who’s funding the Harris County Democratic Endorsed?

March 11, 2024

You will be surprised.

Last month a group called Harris County Democratic Endorsed was sending texts with their endorsements. It looks as if it was coming from the Harris County Democratic Party. Their logo is very similar to HCDP as is their website which is hosted on WordPress. (rookies) Their endorsement is paid for by Community Justice PAC a PAC created late last year.

Here is what I found back in February:

They raised $50,000 from two individuals/entities, spent over $13,000, and has over $36,000 COH. Joshua Lee donated $25,000 and the law firm Push & Nguyen donated $25,000. Of the $13,000 $7626 was paid to Christian Alexander with a PO Box for JC National for consulting expense and $5000 to John Humphries with a PO Box for Loud Inc for a reimbursement for the the JRR Dinner.

Since then they have filed 3 reports raising $136,000 with $125,000 coming from 4 individuals/organizations including ERIC DICK for $25,000. Yes, that Eric Dick, the republican on Harris County Department of Education who has not paid his $40,000 fine by the Texas Ethics Commission. All of these top donors are associated with law firms, Dick, Lowenberg, Push & Nguyen, and Spagnoletti. Lee works for Armstrong Lee & Baker.

Community Justice spent $60,800 with $40,000 spent on “CONSULT”. One of the candidates Community Justice supported is Erica Hughes who defeated long standing Democratic Judge Mike Engelhart. I have to wonder if these law firms had any cases in front of Judge Engelhart. Here are the top donors

Dick ,Eric25,000.00
Lee ,Joshua25,000.00
Lowenberg Law Firm25,000.00
Push & Nguyen Injury Lawyers25,000.00
Spagnoletti Law Firm25,000.00

Greg Abbott calls for consequences for Uvalde law enforcement

March 10, 2024

After a scathing report from the Department of Justice concerning the mass shooting at Ross Elementary Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called for swift consequences for all involved law enforcement. “21 crime victims in Uvalde never even had their crime investigated. That includes 19 young children ,” Abbott wrote on X on Thursday. “The state must impose consequences for this neglect & provide solutions to prevent acts like this that allow criminals to get easy access to military firearms.”

The response by local law enforcement was swift. “We were confronted by an 18 year old with a military style weapon one that Abbott provided easy access to. Maybe Abbott ought to shut his goddamn mouth, get off his lazy ass, and get these damn weapons off the street. “

What a rotten crippled bastard. Welcome to Satire Sunday.
