League City Mayor Pro Tem: Bankruptcy, Sanctions, and Re-election

July 1, 2024

Last month I was sanctioned by the Judge in League City Mayor Pro Tem Justin Hicks’ bankruptcy hearing. Read on.

Background.
In September of 2023 Mayor Pro Tem Justin Hicks filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the Southern District Court, Case #23-80179. If you are interested in the details, the case documents are public record via a free PACER account. Filing bankruptcy is a burden on a family and we should hope for a good result for the sake of his family.

But, this is Justin Hicks.
Someone who ran as a fiscal conservative, sits on League City Council, is responsible for the city’s $300M budget, voted as Mayor Pro Tem by most of his colleagues, and has managed to piss off a large segment of the community with his extreme, partisan, rhetoric. He has worked hard to push his extreme agenda by purging books, librarians, and true conservatives from running in non partisan city elections. He has meddled in school board elections endorsing unqualified extremist candidates and supporting litigation against CCISD after his candidate lost. He has posted divisive memes and posts on his social media page. He is not a conservative. He’s a jack ass.

But, back to his bankruptcy.
As I mentioned the bankruptcy records are all public. The hearings are open to the public also. I attended one of the hearings with my friend, Heidi. We walked into the hearing and sat quietly in the back row. Hicks was sitting up front. Hicks turned around, looked as us, and left. Moments later the Judge called the case, noticed Hicks had left, and said “Oh. He left”. After realizing he was not returning, we left too.

The photo
Unfortunately, not knowing the rules of the court prohibiting photos, my friend took a pic from outside of the courtroom of the back of Justin’s head and posted it to a social media page. Justin discovered the pic the next day. I have to admit I was unaware of the rules of the court. There are no signs on the door or any warnings posted, but ignorance isn’t an excuse.

Hicks drags us into his case
Hicks, representing himself with the skills set of Jackie Chiles, filed a motion for sanctions against us. The motion claimed he had a right to a peaceful hearing without people, like myself, in attendance and that a picture was taken against court rules. He claimed we were dressed incognito and were there to disrupt the hearing. (It was cold and rainy so appropriate attire was necessary) The motion was denied due to technical errors, but the judge gave him instructions on how to refile his motion, and he did. The judge was also very clear that the United States Constitution allows citizens to attend public hearings, so only the violation of the court rules was included in the new motion for sanctions.

The sanctions
We attended a second hearing to address the sanctions and spoke under oath to the Judge. We were given the opportunity to address Hicks. The entire transcript is available if interested. Hicks submitted a proposed sanction order for the Judge. It included a $2000 daily fine, incarceration, and factory resets of our phones. In the end the Judge sanctioned us a total of $350 split evenly and required us to write a letter of apology. I have complied with the letter noting that I never took any pictures. Hicks stated under oath that he had no evidence showing otherwise and I offered my phone to the court for review, again under oath. Nevertheless I got hit with a $175 fine payable to Hicks for his time and effort to file the motion.

The time and effort
We never saw a breakdown of his time and effort and his expenses. In his motion he wanted to be reimbursed for his time and mileage driving to and from the court even for the times he filed the erroneous motion. That part was denied. He could have sent everything via the mail like I did. Hicks also wanted time off of work for himself and his wife, mileage, and pain and suffering. Most was denied. He also asked for sanctions of thousands of dollars. Again denied. So in the end we had to pay Hicks $175 each to help him pay his bills.

But there is Good news for Hicks.
At his last hearing Hicks said his career is back on track and he finally got a job and was able to buy a new car for his wife! That’s good for his family. His bankruptcy case is now closed.

Hicks re-election
The above quote could be a good attack ad against Hicks like the one attacking a candidate for city council and supporting Hicks’ endorsed candidate, Courtney Chadwell. Months prior to this hit piece going out Hicks had filed his own bankruptcy. I’ve asked Chadwell what he thinks about Hicks “own record of being irresponsible with money and the fact that [he] will be a liability to the city” when managing the $300M+ annual budget. He has not responded.

The Risk.
Hicks shouldn’t file for reelection. Instead he should spend more time concentrating on his fiscal stability and block walking for the Trump reelection campaign. Conservatives probably think the same but Republicans will give him a pass and reelect him. Veterans know you can’t get a security clearance with a looming bankruptcy over your head. Anyone who is responsible for contract negotiations especially for government entities could be a risk while being in financial trouble. We will see in November if voters are concerned with security or hypocrisy. My bet is on hypocrisy.

BTW. Checks in the mail. Literally.

Texas Ethics Commission fines Judge Lina Hidalgo

July 1, 2024

Someone ought to lose their job.

But it shouldn’t be Judge Hidalgo. Most individuals will never read the entire Agreed Resolution from the Texas Ethics Commission, but I have. I’ve read many, hundreds over the last decade. This resolution was an agreement between the Judge and the Ethics Commission. This kind of agreement is pretty common and for good reasons. The respondent (Judge Hidalgo) agreed to a $500 fine and acknowledges the laws addressing the issue and agrees to following the law. The fine was paid.

Unfortunately most, especially the Lina haters, won’t read past the headlines and her staff should have known that would have happened. The agreement made it clear. Her staff arranged a press conference where Judge Hidalgo clearly supported Sean Teare for Harris County DA. That conference was in an area that is not open to the general public. In short she used a county facility for political purposes in violation of the Ethics rules. That is on her staff. That was their mistake. That is in violation of Ethics 101. That was just plain stupid.

Judge Hidalgo isn’t perfect, neither are we, but she has some flaws that are exaggerated by the press and her haters. Her public display against DA Ogg didn’t help. Neither does her pettiness towards Mayor Whitmire or her temper tantrums. But Ogg will be gone soon and she has time to work with Mayor Whitmire if she chooses to do so. Her staff should make that happen. Temper tantrums can be grown out of.

Judge Hidalgo is young and has a great record of accomplishment. She is inspiring to others. In a political world of elderly statesmen Hidalgo brings energy, excitement, compassion, and passion to the job. She competes in marathons, ironman contests, and triathlons. She manages a $2.5 Billion budget for the County. She can ride a horse with confidence (most of us can’t) and she is a great salsa dancer. (LOL. Most of us can’t do that either) Is there anything she can’t do?

Before all the republican bed wetters soil their linens about this $500 fine they might want to clean their own ass. Case in point Eric Dick who was fined $40,000, referred to the State Bar of Texas by the Ethics Commission, and has refused to pay his fine even after receiving a collection letter from the Texas Attorney General. Do yourself a favor and take time to read that Final Order.

Then, shut the fuck up.

Insurance Crisis Meeting Draws 200 Attendees in Bay Area

June 29, 2024

Message of the night:

“Our premiums are too high. Our deductibles are out the roof. This is not sustainable.”

Last Thursday night about 200 individuals attended the meeting concerning the insurance crisis in the Bay Area!

Thanks!
Thanks to Commissioner Garcia and his staff for arranging for this meeting at the Community Center. Special thanks to Dale and his daughter for setup of the event! Thanks to Senator Middleton, State Representatives Dennis Paul, and Briscoe Cain for sending members of their staff to address the crowd. And thanks to Houston City Council Member Flickinger, and CM Alcorn for attending.

Community meeting Thursday on home insurance

June 26, 2024

Local elected officials have been invited to attend.

The Squad Member Jamaal Bowman’s Defeat

June 26, 2024

He deserved this.

One of “The Squad” members lost his seat in Congress last night in the New York Democratic Primary. Jamaal Bowman was elected to Congress to represent New York District 16 in 2020. He wore out his welcome in just 4 short years and lost his re-election bid by over 16 points. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) had this to say about his 16 point loss “Holy sh*t we are down to only 5 Squad members!” Actually she didn’t say that but she whined during the entire primary.

Bowman wasn’t known for his ability to pass legislation. Like the rest of The Squad he has filed a number of bills but to his credit he had 1 bill signed into law which counted for 25% of the entire Squad. He is more remembered for being arrested on the capitol steps, pulling the fire alarm during a crucial vote on the floor, and running his mouth about extreme positions.

Instead of taking care of his district he joined the other Squad members in their rush to be on TV and co-sponsoring bills that have gone no where including Single Payer, Medicare for All, and the Green New Deal. All were DOA. Instead of working across the aisle to find common ground and move to a more perfect health care system he joined The Squad in complaining and not doing the hard work to pass hard legislation. And passing Single Payer is hard. Ask Senator Bernie Sanders. He has been yelling about this for over 40 years.

You can compare the record of The Squad vs The Insurrectionist Caucus here. Both are extreme. Both can’t pass significant legislation.

Let’s thank Bowman for his service.

Lawmakers failed Uvalde, Santa Fe, Fort Hood, Dallas, El Paso, Odessa, and us

June 20, 2024

The Houston Chronicle missed a few mass shootings.

The Chronicle finally put the blame on our elected officials for the Uvalde shooting. Sort of. Because of their lack of action on common sense gun regulations the parents of Uvalde have filed a number of lawsuits against organizations that gave easy access to guns and ammo to the 18 year old who killed 19 children. They are not alone. Some Santa Fe parents have also sued. And they are winning.

Our elected officials have protected the gun industry from lawsuits much like they are protected from suits after they gave that weapon to the 18 year old. It’s time to put the blame for these shootings that have killed children, police, members of the military, Mexican Americans on them. They are responsible for these senseless killings by giving easy access to mentally ill individuals to military style firearms.

They are responsible for forcing tax payers to pay for the leveling of Ross Elementary and for building a new school. They are responsible for the suits against the police who did nothing as the shooter was killing the kids. They are responsible for those who survived the shootings but will be scarred for life requiring continued medical care. They are responsible but will not be held accountable.

Gun violence was on the ballot in 2022 and not one single elected official, responsible for the Uvalde shooting, was held accountable. Not one. So who will be responsible for the next shooting?

Us.

CCISD, True Texas Project and Scott Bowen.

June 18, 2024

CCISD Trustee was the guest speaker of True Texas Project.

TTP was thrown out of another venue due to their support of white nationalist figures and rhetoric. Back in 2022 Buzz Aldrin’s church in Webster banned the far right group from having their meetings in the facility after learning about the group. According to The Texas Tribune another group, the Dallas Botanical Gardens, has cancelled TTP’s event stating they “rejects all forms of hate speech, discrimination, or bigotry.”

And they have a point. A big one. Even some of the most white wing of the party, including Don Huffines, has joined 12 other speakers and have cancelled their appearance at the event. From the Tribune:

Billed as the 15th anniversary celebration for True Texas Project, the conference agenda claims that there is a “war on white America,” and urges attendees to embrace once-fringe ideologies such as Christian nationalism or the Great Replacement Theory, which claims that there is an intentional, often Jewish-driven, effort to destroy white people through immigration, interracial marriage or the LGBTQ+ community.

Other speakers include “figures with ties to antisemites and extremists, including Paul Gottfried, a far-right author who mentored neo-Nazi Richard Spencer”. TTP is supported by the two republican billionaires out of the Dallas area, Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks. They also created Defend Texas Liberty PAC. The leadership was caught meeting with known white supremacist Nick Fuentes. The backlash was so bad the PAC folded but they created another under a new name.

This is who CCISD Scott Bowen associates with. Do yourself a favor and read the two articles from the Tribune. The first outs the group and their agenda for the birthday bash. The second is about the speakers cancelling their appearance. Here are a few comments from the speakers:

  • “I know that the True Texas Project gets things done and I need each and every one of you to continue to fight for the conservative principles we all stand for,” –Ted Cruz
  • “Every good and [decent] and honorable person associated with this event should back out,” Travis County GOP Chair Matt Mackowiak
  • It’s a “dumb and inaccurate way to promote the Republican agenda” and that he “was never given a lineup of speakers or topics.” Senator Don Huffines
  • “I categorically reject white replacement theory and never write or speak about it. I’m not interested in any of that stuff.” Todd Bensman, a fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies
  • “What kind of stupid son of a bitch would associate with these racist assholes?” Me.

Republicans endorse Galveston Sheriff Candidate under investigation.

June 13, 2024

No Place But Texas. Literally.

Republican candidate for the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, Jimmy Fullen was under investigation by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. They have recommended revoking his peace officer license. You can read the entire recommendation here. (It’s bad) This would make him ineligible to be Sheriff, if elected, but don’t worry. This is Texas where law and order seldom is heard. KPRC has reported on Fullen here.

Fullen is endorsed by most every republican in the county including Senator Money Mayes Middleton who let Ken Paxton off in his impeachment trial. I watched the entire impeachment trial. Every single minute of it. How anyone could have ignored his criminal behavior is beyond me. Nevertheless the Republican Party is circling the wagons and will protect him like a porn star using a condom.

The TCOLE has recommended revoking his license. In their recommendation they note:

Specifically, Respondent [Fullen] omitted, failed to disclose, or provided false or untruthful information related to job experience, having been disciplined at work, having been fired or asked to resign from a place of employment, having been accused of discrimination, having been the subject of a written complaint at work, having failed to make or been late on a court-ordered payment, having been part of a civil lawsuit, and failing to disclose two arrests.

OUCH. You can read the entire letter to Fullen here. He has 20 days to respond. He has two choices, agree to the order or schedule a formal, public hearing. There is a website detailing his conduct at The Real True Jimmy Fullen. If half of this is true, and it is all based upon public information, he is a perfect Republican candidate for Sheriff.

Law and Order in Texas. It’s like Beavis and Butthead.

League City Council guts their Code of Ethical Conduct

June 11, 2024

Guess whose fingerprints are all over this.

League City Council has become a treasure trove of news stories and recently they are not good ones. Banning books, firing librarians, bankruptcies, firing city attorneys are just a few. Here is another. Someone in League City government has redlined the Code of Ethics suggesting changes to how the city will “hold its elected officials and the appointed officials and employees to the highest standards of ethical conduct.”

You would think that a city of “conservative” citizens would demand a rigid, law and order, approach to ethical conduct from their elected leaders. (LOL) If that is the case they will be shocked to see the proposed changes to their Code of Ethics. You can read the entire 6 pages here. Here are just a few of the changes:

  • Guts the Rules of Ethical Conduct section
  • Removes ethics standards specifically for League City
  • Removes disclosures of gifts to elected officials
  • Removes “Conducting themselves with integrity”
  • Removes conflict of interest concerning city business
  • Removes section titled “Rules of ethical conduct”.
  • Removes limitation on gifts to city officials
  • Removes the entire complaint process against city officials.
  • Removes the ethics review panel

There is so much more, or less, to read. Take a minute and read it.

League City. No Place for Ethics.

The Quorum Vote at the Texas Democratic Convention

June 10, 2024

And you wonder why we lose?

While the MAGAts of the Republican Party are working to give everyone easy access to guns, destroying our faith in our judicial system, and limiting the rights of women, the delegates of the Texas Democratic Convention was arguing about having a protest vote in our primaries. It was ugly, petty, and pathetic.

There were 4 resolutions/rule changes pulled from consent and were to be debated on the floor of the convention including paying the TDP chair, supporting rank choice voting, and a rule concerning precinct chairs. There was wide support for these. Then there was the rule to add an “Uncommitted” to our presidential primary ballot much like some other states like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. That stemmed from the Palestinian wing of the party.

Prior to debate the Chair declared that we did not have quorum and all hell broke loose. Hinojosa, speaking to the delegates like they were 2nd graders (some deserved that), continued to say “I will continue when you are finished.”. Eventually they were finished and the process to overturn the chair’s decision was explained, over and over again as per Roberts Rules of Order, which the convention is conducted under. So someone finally motioned to challenge the Chair, it was seconded, and we had to have a roll call vote with each Congressional District reporting yay or nay per county. We have 254 counties in Texas with 38 CDs. Three hours later, we had the vote to overturn the Chair. YEAH!

But….the vote also showed we did not meet the rules of quorum so the 3 hour process was moot and the Convention was adjourned as per the rules. During the 3 hour bitch session many delegates had to leave due to airline and bus schedules thereby breaking quorum.

This is what we argued about. A protest vote. Even if this passed what would it do besides providing negative national attention to our nominee? Go ahead and google protest vote news. I’ll wait. Much like 2016 the whiny little bitches of the Democratic Party have to have a way to publicly whine about everything or anything. If you don’t like immigration policies, protest vote. How about consumer issues? Or woman’s rights? Gay rights? Veteran issues? Gun violence? Pick your damn bottle of whine and protest vote. Give the media a great sound bite which they will exploit. Help to weaken our candidates chances of winning like you did in 2016.

How in the fuck did that work out for you, for us? The three resolutions/rule changes were good for the party and I wish we had the opportunity to vote on these. The protest vote was an embarrassment.

Grow the fuck up people.

League City Veteran flying the upside down United States flag

June 3, 2024

Leave it to League City’s Mayor Pro Tem Justin Hicks, a christian, conservative, veteran to lead the way.

Well that didn’t take long. As a Veteran I have never supported anyone who would publicly fly a US flag upside down. I would support anyone who wears a flag, or drapes a flag over their shoulders, or wears it like a swimsuit, or even burns it. That is their Constitutional right and Veterans have taken an oath to protect their rights. I do not like it but it is their right.

Flying the flag upside down is also the right of Americans, even Veterans, but it represents much more than a flag bikini. League City Mayor Pro Tem Justin Hicks has taken the opportunity to display his ignorance of the law and has posted the republican talking points along with the upside down flag. He ran to trump’s defense as fast as Ted Cruz claiming the fix was in. It’s an ignorant, unhinged, rant by an elected official and Veteran of the United States Armed Forces.

Flying a flag upside down is Hicks right as an American and a Veteran. He should fly his upside down flag on his house to show his support for trump and his disdain for the rule of law in our country. He should proudly show his support for the porn phucker and his disdain for our court system, judges, and jurors.

Maybe Hicks should ask Judge Jeffery Norman in Galveston what he thinks about respecting the rule of law.

Breaking: Jaws of life called for Congressman from Richmond Texas

June 2, 2024

Keep Congressman Troy Nehls and his family in your prayers.

The Alexandria fire department and the “jaws of life” was called for an accident involving Texas Congressman Troy Nehls. No other individual or family members were involved. According to the report: “The Alexandria Fire Department Station 42 was called late Saturday night to assist the Congressman from Texas. Our first responders, who are trained in the use of the jaws of life, were unable to free the Congressman but will not stop trying until the job is completed and Congressman Nehls is rescued.”

According to the first responders the accident happened right after the press conference held by Nehls to publicly denounce the 34 guilty verdicts against Donald Trump. “When we arrived at the accident we immediately called for the jaws of life. The scene was horrible with Congressman Nehls gasping for air and pleading for help.”

“Our brave first responders took decisive action with the jaws of life and tried to pry Congressman Nehls lips off of Donald Trump’s ass, but he was stuck. I’ve never seen anyone kiss someones ass so hard that they got stuck. We continue to struggle with the situation. The fact that Trump continued to walk around with Nehls stuck to his ass didn’t help.”

Texas is well known for their saying “We do things bigger in Texas”, including having some of the biggest ass kissers in the country.

Welcome to Satire Sunday.

State to investigate rising insurance rates. Again.

May 30, 2024

In 2003, as a consumer advocate, I watched as the State Legislature reformed home insurance as promised during the 2002 campaign. After signing the significant reforms in Senate Bill 14 then Governor Rick Perry stated, “This comprehensive reform measure will stabilize the home and auto insurance market, rid the insurance industry of fraudulent practices and ensure Texans have access to fair rates offered in a competitive market”.

So, in the words of Texans across the state: How’s dat workin fer ya buddy?”

It isn’t. Twenty years later insurance premiums are out the roof. Deductibles are so high many wonder if it’s worth paying for insurance. Homeowners in the Bay Area have reported increases in their premiums jumping by 25-100%! Deductibles have risen to over $10,000. Insurance companies are not renewing policies or writing new policies in the area. I’ve talked with homeowners, business owners, Homeowner Associations, insurance agents, realtors, and city and county representatives and the concern is across the board. This issue must be addressed.

And it will. Again. Like in 2002 the Lt. Governor has issued interim charges to the Senate Business and Commerce Committee titled “Addressing the rising cost of insurance” in preparation of the upcoming legislation session in 2025. Unlike 2002 consumers must demand legislation that will significantly reduce premiums and require reasonable deductibles as the Governor promised twenty years ago. That must be the bottom line. We literally cannot afford another round of empty promises.

The legislation of 2003 provided significant changes to the regulations of the industry allowing the insurance industry to raise rates without justifying the increases with the Texas Department of Insurance. Coverage for foundation, water, and sewer were removed from policies making the coverage optional. The value of the home, set by the insurance companies, saw massive increases resulting in higher premiums. These are just a few examples of the reforms of 2003, but the bottom line is that the reforms failed miserably.

In 2003 the industry blamed the mold issue for high increases. This year they will blame inflation, the Texas freeze, and more active storms. They will probably blame lawsuit abuse after companies refuse to pay on claims to consumers. Inflation has taken a toll, but it not only has subsided it shouldn’t be a reason to double premiums. The Texas freeze wasn’t the fault of homeowners, yet the Legislature passed a bill forcing consumers to pay for the failure. We shouldn’t have to pay for it again. In 2003 the legislature passed significant tort reform limiting lawsuits and yet that too has failed. It hasn’t reduced insurance premiums. These failures are not recent. There were significant warnings ever since the reforms passed yet our elected officials did nothing.

It’s time for consumers to take action. The Business and Commerce Committee will be accepting input from the community and will hold hearings concerning the interim charges. State Senator Mayes Middleton, who sits on the Committee, should demand hearings within the community instead of just in Austin. State Representative Dennis Paul, Mary Ann Perez, and Briscoe Cain all sit on the House Insurance Committee. They too should call for local hearings.

In the meantime, consumers are organizing a townhall type of meeting in the Bay Area to address this issue. Elected officials will be invited to participate and provide input on how insurance rates have gone unchecked for so long and what they intend to do about it. We can no longer sit quietly waiting for action to be taken or for promises to be made.

Consumers need to either stand up and be loud or sit down and be quiet. I’m standing.

Veterans rush to defend Trump’s Memorial Day post

May 28, 2024

Veterans across the country took a break from their Memorial Day activities to come to the defense of the former President concerning his Truth Social post. Trump was highly criticized for his post starting with “Happy Memorial Day to All” then diving into a rambling mess, calling Americans including Veterans “Human Scum”.

Veterans were quick to come to his defense. “Men and women, who we are honoring today on Memorial Day, made the ultimate sacrifice to support the freedom to use Memorial Day as Trump’s own personal playground.”

“As a Christian, Conservative, Veteran I am proud to take time away from grilling burgers and drinking Coors Light to defend Trump and his family on Memorial Day.”

“Donald Trump is an asshole but he is my asshole and I will always clean my asshole after a social media dump.”

Although Veterans came to the defense of Trump they were not very happy with the post by his son Eric. Eric, considered the dumb one of the bunch, shared another user’s post that featured a photo of the Trump family and the claim that they’d given up “everything to Save America.” The same Veterans who took time away from drinking Coors Light were quick to respond:

“What a dick!”
“Who the fuck is Eric?”
“That boy needs an ass kicking.”
“I will defend Trump taking a dump in Arlington but I will not stand for what this dick head is doing!”

This is satire. Or is it?

Anyone Remember Uvalde?

May 24, 2024

I didn’t think so.

It’s been two years since 19 children were slaughtered at Ross Elementary in Uvalde, Texas. A scan of the news, including the Houston Chronicle, shows a couple of articles posted yesterday concerning the parents settling a suit against the State, but nothing else. The shooting has become like every other mass shooting in Texas, forgotten. Austin, Santa Fe, Sutherland, Killeen, Cleveland, Odessa, and others, all forgotten.

Since the shootings not one single elected official has been held accountable for the lax guns laws they supported that led to an 18 year old easily buying a military style weapon and killing 19 children and 2 teachers. Not one. Even the voters in Uvalde gave Greg Abbott a pass voting to re-elected him in 2022. Our schools are still not safe, and will never be safe as long as we have lax gun laws.

There will be another shooting, maybe at a school, or a parade, or a church, or a concert, or a mall. It is going to happen and like Uvalde our elected officials will do nothing and we will all forget unless it’s our family members who are killed or who will need care for the rest of their lives.

So keep Uvalde in your thoughts and prayers. It is the least you can do. Literally.

The cost of Abbott’s gun fetish

May 23, 2024

Rotten bastard.

Abbott likes to coddle guns even those so powerful they would flip him backwards in his wheelchair. Guns are a game to Abbott no matter the cost and it is going to cost. Someone.

21 families were shattered in Uvalde two years ago. They will suffer for the rest of their lives. Those who were wounded will require mental and physical care for their rest of their lives. The community will have to pay for a new school after Ross Elementary is torn down. Law enforcement individuals have resigned or been fired for their role in the shooting. Now Uvalde will pay $2M to settle claims over the shooting. According to the Houston Chronicle:

“For two long years, we have languished in pain and without any accountability from the law enforcement agencies and officers who allowed our families to be destroyed that day,” said Veronica Luevanos, whose daughter Jailah and nephew Jayce were killed. “This settlement reflects a first good faith effort by the City of Uvalde to begin rebuilding trust in the systems that failed to protect us.”

But it gets worse. The families are taking legal action against the law enforcement officers who botched the response to the shooting. From The Texas Tribune:

“The legal action against 92 DPS officers comes days before the two-year anniversary of the shooting in which an 18-year-old used an AR-15 to kill 19 students and two teachers in two adjoining fourth-grade classrooms.”

The parents should focus on the root cause of the shooting and sue the living fuck out of Greg Abbott for putting that gun in the hands of a sick 18 year old fuck. He and every NRA ass kissing elected official are also responsible for the shooting in Uvalde and every shooting in the State. They play with their guns. They protect their guns. They think it’s cute. These people are sick fucks.

May god damn them to hell.

Stolen Valor: Texas Congressman Troy Nehls

May 22, 2024

Wearing medals you didn’t earn in combat is considered very offensive. But in Nehl’s case it is worse.

Congressman Troy Nehls out of Fort Bend, while he isn’t kissing Donald trumps ass, is stuck in a controversy about this combat service in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to a story by James LaPorte, a CBS reporter who specializes in national security and military affairs, Nehls continues to wear a Combat Infantryman Badge on his lapel but according to the Department of Defense:

The CBS News investigation also found his Combat Infantryman Badge from Afghanistan was revoked from his service record in March 2023 because Nehls served as a civil affairs officer, not as an infantryman or Special Forces soldier.

So while soldiers were getting shot at Nehls was sitting behind a computer screen. But it gets worse for Nehls. According to the article Nehls claims he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals. “Service members can be awarded the medal for heroic actions in combat or for meritorious performance under what the Army describes as “combat conditions.”  The Pentagon says he was only awarded one. It gets worse. According to the article:

Military records obtained by CBS News show that Nehls’ Bronze Star medal listed in his files was awarded to him in September 2004 by now-retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste for his service in Iraq. The award citation obtained by CBS News reads in part: “Captain Nehls trained and mentored nine Iraqi staff members and four coalition soldiers assigned to the Kirkuk Business Center, which became known as the best business center in all of Iraq.”

He received the Bronze Star for training and mentoring. His second Bronze Star Award states “Major Nehls’ personal courage and commitment to mission accomplishment in a combat zone, under the most extreme of circumstances, greatly contributed to the success of Operation Enduring Freedom.”

The Pentagon does not have a record of this award. Troy Nehls. Fort Bend must be proud.

Katy ISD Trustee Morgan Calhoun in the news. Again

May 15, 2024

It wasn’t enough for Katy ISD Trustee Morgan Calhoun to post a a pic of her family on a Katy ISD Instagram account coddling the same type of weapon that killed 19 children in Uvalde, 27 christians in Sutherland Springs, 8 kids in Santa Fe, 5 police in Dallas, and 21 first graders in Sandy Hook.

And it’s bad enough the Houston Chronicle as well as all local media didn’t report on it. If a teacher had posted a picture like this the Chronicle would have been all over it. But now the Chronicle has woken up a bit.

Now Calhoun is taking fire (no pun intended) for her comments about tracking the immigration status of students. Even the MAGAts who supported her display of firearms as a Happy Easter post was critical of her ignorance of federal and state laws. From the Houston Chronicle story:

It is against state and federal law to ask the immigration status of a student, Superintendent Ken Gregorski noted.

Speakers at the Katy School Board meeting reminded Calhoun that the election held in early May had record turnout and Calhoun’s MAGAt buddies lost their races. Katy parents are not putting up with the takeover of Katy ISD. Calhoun is a Mexican MAGAt and was funded by a PAC that raised over a million dollars. It’s said that a Mexican American can be a MAGAt, one that supports a porn phucker, a liar, a cheater, a filthy human being like Donald Trump.

Maybe someone ought to ask if she is here legally.

Texas Senate to address rising insurance costs. Sort of….

May 14, 2024

Better late than never.

After decades of the failure of insurance reform the Texas Business and Commerce Committee in the Senate will address the rising cost of home insurance. Sort of. Lt Gov Dan Patrick has issued what is called “Interim Charges” to the Senate. Specific committees are asked to research an issue prior to the upcoming legislation session. Here is what he issued concerning home insurance:

Addressing the Rising Cost of Insurance: Assess the impact of rising property and casualty insurance costs on Texas property owners, real estate lenders, and commercial and industrial development. Identify ways to increase consumer transparency to better inform coverage decisions and make recommendations to ensure a competitive and affordable insurance market for consumers.

The entire list of charges can be viewed here. In the past the staff will solicit input from the community. They will have hearings then issue a report later in the year. I intend to provide input as well as attend the hearings. I would be very cautious about this study. The issue is clear. Our premiums are through the roof as well as our deductibles. This isnt about “transparency” or about learning how to choose an insurance company. This is about the failure of insurance reform back in 2003 that was suppose to “ensure a competitive and affordable insurance market for consumers”.

This study will be heavily influenced by the insurance industry and supporting organizations like Texans for Lawsuit Reform, and Texans Coalition for Affordable Insurance Solutions. TCAIS was the main organization formed to influence the 2003 reforms. They were funded by the insurance industry and claims to be advocating for consumers.

We need to keep an eye on this study.
