Raising Campaign Cash: State Representative Dennis Paul HD129

January 20, 2022

Dennis doesn’t seem to be too smart when it comes to fundraising.

According to the Texas Ethics Commission he only raised $61,870. 60 donors provided $49,760 of this total with an average of $843 per donor. 109 donors provided just $11,730 donating between $18 and $350 for an average of $107 per donor.

For someone who can easily cruz to victory Paul seems to enjoy wasting his donors money. Of the $61,870 raised he spent $32,516 on ads, $12,780 on Overhead, and $6798 on fundraising expenses for a total of $52,094 leaving him a balance of $13,367 Cash On Hand with a looming $111,000 loan.

Lucky for him he has no serious challenger.

NOTE: Dennis is a suck up. He likes wearing his ill fitting NRA hat at the polls as if that will get him any more votes. Last year he took a trip to Washington DC and stayed at the Trump Hotel.

Suck up.

Raising Campaign Cash: Joe Jaworski for Attorney General

January 20, 2022

Joe Jaworski is the former Mayor of Galveston, Texas and is running for Texas Attorney General.

According to the Texas Ethics Commission Joe raised $453,184 during this last reporting period. 65% came from Texans. $466 of that were unitemized donations. He had a 4 donors of $10,000 or more for a total of $60,000.

Joe has been campaigning since July 2020 and has raised $1,193,717 to date.

Raising Campaign Cash: Rochelle Garza for Attorney General

January 20, 2022

Rochelle began her quest for office by filing for Congress, raised some money, then switched to the Texas Attorney General race. She is a young civil rights attorney from Brownsville, Texas.

According to Texas Ethics Reports Rochelle raised $111,419. $35,225 came from her congressional campaign. Of that $12,666 was in the form of in-kind donations from Rochelle for Congress with $22,559 coming in the form of donations.

Not counting the $35,225 from her previous campaign, $57,694 came from Texas donors.

Raising Campaign Cash: Vidal Martinez for County Judge (Qanon republican)

January 19, 2022

The Qanon Republican Party has their candidate.

Vidal Martinez is running for County Judge against Lina Hidalgo probably because they couldn’t find a woman with the last name of Hidalgo to confuse voters. Martinez raised $514,585 with $100,000 coming from a personal loan. Of the remaining $414,585, 14 donors contributed $340,000 or 82% of all her donations. The remaining 18% donated $74585. Unlike other candidates Martinez relied on the deep pockets of every day, common, peasants donating $1000 or more. Her top 14 donors are:

Raising Campaign Cash: Lee Merritt for Texas Attorney General

January 19, 2022

Lot’s of socialist money being poured into this campaign.

The socialists of America has figured out a way to infiltrate the Democratic Party by running in deep, deep, deep, blue districts such as in Hays County (Austin). They pick and choose just a few candidates unlike what they did back in 2016 when they adopted the “Run Everywhere, Lose Everywhere” approach. From an early post:

Out of 80 candidates endorsed by , only 7 won. 2 were incumbents in deep blue districts. 1 was unopposed.  4 were all in very blue districts wiping out their general election opponents. It’s not like they were endorsing in tough competitive states like Texas, although those that did, lost. All of them. One raised over a $1 Million and lost 70-30 in the primary.

It looks like they have picked Lee Merritt to run in Texas for AG. Texas is far from being deep, deep, blue. It’s a possible swing state if that. In his latest report Merritt raised a total of $404,615 which is pretty good for a primary. $185,333 are unitemized. More on that later.

Of the remaining 2146 donations of $219,281 that were itemized, only $70,085, 31%, were from Texans. $149,196, 69%, came from out of state donors. $60,751 came from donors from California. $22,298 came from Real Justice PAC a socialist Organization based out of California. Real Justice raised $25,880 with $21,445 coming from cash donations, which is hard to believe. I’ve written about Real Justice before:

According to the Texas Ethics Commission Real Justice PAC has raised $298,050 with $200,000 coming from one individual, Cari Tuna from San Fransisco. Only $10,200 came from Texans, and only $600 came from Harris County.

About that $185,333. Merritt listed unitemized contributions of $185,333. According to the Texas Ethics Commission all donations over $90 must be reported as well as all donations submitted electronically. So this $185,333 must be donations of $90 or less and in cash. That is a lot of cash.

Raising Campaign Cash: Republican Candidates running for Harris County Judge

January 19, 2022

Nine republicans have filed for Harris County Judge. Most have no idea of what they are doing and their fundraising reflects this. The republicans found a Latina named  Martinez to challenge Hidalgo probably because they couldn’t find someone named Hidalgo to run in order to cause confusion.

Martinez deserves a post all by herself and that will come soon. It will be very interesting. Kibosh loaned himself $60,000, raised $15,000 which included a $10,000 donation from his own pocket. Martian Dixon seems to have some fundraising capability.

Lee Merritt for Texas Attorney General merits no further consideration

January 19, 2022

Lee Merritt is a prominent civil rights attorney who represented the family of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia. Ahmaud was killed by 3 individuals who decided to take the law into their own hands. They were found guilty of murder and will spend the rest of their lives in jail. Merritt has an excellent record on civil rights….but….

Merritt is running in the Democratic Primary for Texas Attorney General. The AG has, in the past, been the “people’s lawyer” representing the interests of the State of Texas and it’s citizens. Unfortunately Mr. Merritt is not authorized to practice law in the State of Texas and has had a complaint filed by the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee of the Texas Supreme Court, Cause No. 417-00438-2018.

The complaint alleges Lee was practicing law in multiple cases, citing 6 specific cases as well as a number of others. The entire complaint can be read here. The complaints were eventually dropped with Lee signing a Final Consent Judgement listing 12 specific restrictions including not being able to advertise his services, or participating in discovery in Texas cases, and much more. The list is pretty specific. I would think it could be alleviated by Lee taking and passing the Bar. This Judgement was signed in Feb 2018 nearly 4 years ago. According to the complaint:

Although he applied to take the July 2015 Texas Bar Examination, Defendant did not do so and has not since sought admission to the State Bar of Texas.

It seems pretty clear he does not intend to take the Texas Bar Examination. It makes sense that the top lawyer of the State of Texas should be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas. Although Lee has a stellar record in civil rights he just doesn’t merit any further consideration for the office of Texas Attorney General.

Read the complaint and judgement here.

Raising Campaign Cash: Judge George Risner for County Commissioner

January 19, 2022

Judge George Risner has drop his reelection plans to run against current County Commissioner Adrian Garcia in the Democratic primary. Based upon his lack of fundraising he might want to consider sitting this one out.

According to his financial report Risner raised only $2250, spent $1899, and has a balance of $51,550 which includes a personal loan of $51,550. The math doesn’t add up but that is a minor problem. Prior to running for Commissioner Risner raised $90,975 for his judicial seat. He received $6906 in in-kind contributions. His cash on hand is illegible. I’m not sure if he can transfer these funds from a judicial account to a COH (Candidate/Office Holder?).

Commissioner Garcia raised almost $587,000 and has $2.1Million cash on hand. Garcia has been endorsed by the Gulf Coast AFLCIO and local Democratic clubs.

More Dicks running for office as republicans

January 18, 2022

Eric Dick, the current Harris County Department of Education Trustee, is now running for Harris County Treasurer giving up his seat. His wife, Danielle Dick, is now running for his vacant seat. She has filed an Appointment for Treasurer for Joe Synoradzki the same treasurer Eric uses. Joe works at the Dick Lawfirm.

Danielle will probably use the same method of fundraising Dick has used, that is self financing. Dick over the last few elections has not raised much money depending upon his own personal funds to litter the city with Dick pics signs. Hopefully she will learn from her husband’s mistakes and will not use deceptive mailers implying she is being endorsed by elected officials that will never endorsed her or Dick.

Do one likes a dick. Don’t be a dick:

Dick has a preliminary hearing scheduled at the end of this month in front of the Texas Ethic Commission for his deceptive media content. As you might remember Dick paid for a mailer to the African American community during the 2019 City Council runoff. This mailer did not have the required “Political ad paid for by…” statement. It also looked like prominent Black elected officials such as former President Barack Obama, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, and others were endorsing his run for Houston City Council.

Another Harris County Republican lost his job due to racist comments

January 17, 2022

What the living f*ck has happened to the Harris County Republican Party? (you know the answer)

Another republican from the Harris County Republican Party has lost their job due to making racist comments. Cy-Fair ISD Trustee Scott Henry, who was endorsed by the Harris County Republican Party, made racist comments at his first school board meeting. He has now lost his job with a software company out of California. Henry has since removed his campaign website and all his social media account. I would bet he will be resigning from Cy-Fair ISD soon.

Back in 2020 the newly elected chair of the Harris County Republican Party, Kieth Nielsen, made a racist post concerning a Martin Luther King quote. That racist quote cost him his position as the Planning Commissioner of Pasadena. He later resigned as chair.

Former City Councilman Greg Travis, another HCRP republican, also make racist comments. City Council couldn’t remove him from his committee assignments because he had already resigned many months before. They also couldn’t fire him and since he is self employed he wouldn’t fire himself. Unfortunately his so called “conservative” buddies on City Council, Knox, Kubosh, and Martin said nothing, did nothing. They sat quietly while Travis eventually quit….to run for State Representative.

Good luck with the job hunt.
