Writing a letter to the Editor. (LTTE)

February 13, 2019

Writing a letter to the editor is pretty easy now that you can simply email the newspaper and hope for publication. Staffers at the Texas Capitol look at the news and opinion pieces for topics concerning bills they will be voting on. So your letters could have an impact.

Follow these easy suggestions and start writing.

1) Be timely. Writing a LTTE right after an event has a better chance of being published. For instance a letter calling for more gun safety legislation or supporting a specific gun safety bill would have more effect if submitted immediately following an incident involving a shooting. (Although don’t always wait for a horrible event to ever speak your mind.) The point is to be timely. Writing about hurricane preparedness will not be printed after hurricane season.

2) Be short. No one wants to read a long novel. Most newspapers have a word limit typically 100-200 words. Be short, to the point. Look at the newspaper’s editorial section for word limits.

3) End with a snappy line if you can. For instance if you are writing about gun safety you could end with “Ask yourself what is more important? Your donors right to own an assault rifle or your childs right to live?’

4) Send your LTTE to various newspapers if it is an issue that affects multiple areas. Otherwise be specific.

5) Always sign your letter with your name, address, email address, and phone number.

If you are interested in writing LTTEs, contact me at johncoby@sbcglobal.net and I will give you the email addresses of various newspapers.

Little Baby Briscoe wants his wall

February 12, 2019

Texas State Representative Briscoe Cain of Deer Park has been known to look and act like a 12 year old.

Last year State Representative Briscoe Cain from Deer Park had a temper tantrum vowing legislation in retaliation to the walkouts of April 20th to honor students killed at Columbine High School. He the was removed from the Texas Democratic Convention after flashing his concealed weapon prompting his mother to respond:

“I am so sorry for my son’s behavior. I have told him to not play cops and robbers in the open and to never take his toy guns out of the house. I intend to whoop his ass once I get him home.”

Baby Briscoe is at it again this time filing a bill to take $2.5 Billion out of the rainy day fund and use it to build his racist wall along the Texas border. From the Statesman Baby Briscoe mimics Donald Trump:

The bill would protect “the security interests of the United States and of Texas” Cain said, and prevent “unlawful entries into the United States and this state, including entries by terrorists, unlawful aliens, and narcotics.” The governor would be authorized to enter into contracts to meet those ends, he said.

Just like trump, Baby Briscoe is a liar. Look for his mommy to whoop his ass behind the tool shed or maybe someone in the district is willing to challenge his baby ass on in 2020.

Wonder why the TX Secretary of State quit?

February 8, 2019

Rolando Pablo abruptly quit as Secretary of State after just 2 years on the job and after the incredible losses of the 2018 elections. From his press release:

With the midterm elections successfully [LOL] behind us, and the 86th legislative session around the comer, I believe this would be a good time to begin the process of transitioning out of my position and passing the baton to the next secretary of state. Serving Texans as Secretary of State has been an opportunity of a lifetime, but I feel the need at this time to turn my attention to my private practice.

Just a few months after leaving the office acting SOS, David Whitley, released an advisory to local election officials claiming, incorrectly, that 95,000 non citizens were registered to vote. Some officials like Cheryl Johnson of Galveston County immediately began a purge of these voters and have since been sued for pre-mature purging. The Houston Chronicle has since called for a No vote on Whitley’s confirmation:

Normally, we wouldn’t weigh in on a confirmation hearing for a gubernatorial pick to a low-profile office in Austin. This year, we’ll not only weigh in on David Whitley’s appointment to the office of Texas secretary of state. We’ll recommend a loud and resounding: NO.

Back to Pablo. I would not be surprised to find out that Pablo was directed, instructed, or was strongly encouraged to call for this purge and he refused to do it. So instead of going along with a violation of voting rights he quit. A number of organizations has filed suit and we may find out that this speculation might just be true.

So…what did he know and when did he go?

HPD Union President issues threats to Houstonians

February 1, 2019

NOTE: Four Houston Police Officers were shot during a drug raid last week. Two are still in serious condition. Let’s hope for a full recovery for all of them.

Houston Police Union President, Joe Gamaldi, went off the rails blaming activists for a shooting that injured four HPD officers before knowing all the facts. It was a ill advised, rambling, divisive statement by the Union President who shouldn’t have been given air time in the first place. From KHOU:

“if you’re the ones that are out there spreading the rhetoric that police officers are the enemy, just know we’ve all got your number now, we’re going to be keeping track of all of y’all, and we’re going to make sure that we hold you accountable every time you stir the pot on our police officers. We’ve had enough, folks. We’re out there doing our jobs every day, putting our lives on the line for our families.”

I have a couple of questions for Mr. Gamaldi: Who the hell are you talking to? You talkin ta me? Who are you going to keep track of? Who will be doing the tracking? How are you going to keep track of them? Even before the smoke cleared you were on camera blaming others for the actions of two old white grandparents who were responsible for shooting our officers.

Houston Police Chief, Art Acevedo, had this to say:

“I don’t want to ever, as a police department, paint anybody with a broad brush based on the actions of one or a group of individuals,” Acevedo said. “We need to judge people individually based on their actions. So I’m asking everyone here to tone it down. And I’ve asked him that, too. And let’s focus on the good. And we fall short, let’s focus on holding people accountable, including the community. It’s a mutual responsibility. Accountability is a two-way street.”

Maybe Gamaldi might want to move back to New York and find another job. Maybe the Union might want to rethink their selection for Union President.

Harris County GOP doubles down on being dicks.

January 30, 2019

When your mouth has dug yourself a hole, do yourself a favor and shut the hell up.

The Chair of the Harris County Republican Party (HCRaP), Paul Simpson, hasn’t learned that lesson. After posting an offensive Facebook comment concerning the Holocaust Remembrance Day, being widely criticized by the media, editing the comment, then just deleting it all together, Simpson just could refrain from issuing another ill advised statement:

“A few accused the post of being anti-Semitic. It was nothing of the sort. All Americans should be on guard against the dangers of ideologies that demean the value of individual human lives to the collective. That includes socialism in all forms, whether 20th-century German National Socialism or today’s glossed-over socialism that is condoned and even promoted by those who should know better. The human suffering in today’s Cuba and Venezuela are vivid reminders that Socialism does indeed kill. Americans should not tread on the slippery slope of socialism that has always led to misery.”

Simpson’s original comment put him in the “Why do you have to be a dick about everything?” Club. It doesn’t take a moron to understand how offensive it is to take a day of remembrance where 6+million human beings were killed and use it to further your white wing cause. Even members of his own party had a comment:

Paul shut up. Just shut up! We are being painted as a bunch of white wing anti-Semites! We are already considered a bunch of white wing racists!

OK. That was just made up. but local resident, Art Pronin responded with a Letter to the Editor in the Houston Chronicle:

I can’t imagine what they are going to post come Memorial Day.

Why do you have to be a dick about everything? Harris County GOP

January 28, 2019

The Chair of the Harris County Republican Party (HCRaP), Paul Simpson, has joined the “Why do you have to be a dick about everything” club standing with Congressman Louie Gohmert, Texas Ag Commissioner Sid Miller, former County Clerk Stan Stanart, and Trump. Simpson used the Holocaust Remembrance Day to make an offensive political statement with a post on the official  county Facebook page.

Within an hour of posting this, Simpson has edited out the “Leftists kills” comment and will soon deleted the entire post, as he should. Update: the post has now been deleted.
Last November Simpson guided his party to an epic loss, losing every County election except for one. Instead of using the time to understand why his party lost, Simpson takes the time to write offensive Facebook posts.

I just do not understand why he has to be a dick about everything.

Republicans at NASA instructed to clean the bathrooms

January 25, 2019

It’s hard to make up shit like this. Literally. From The Hill:

A NASA manager posted on Twitter on Thursday a sign hanging outside the bathroom asking staff to volunteer to clean the bathrooms once per week amid the ongoing partial government shutdown, as reported by The Houston Chronicle.

Press Release: Lt Gov Dan Patrick sets rules of the Senate

January 24, 2019

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick sets rules of the Senate

January 24, 2018

AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced today that he is setting rules for the Republican members of the Texas Senate. Upon his announcement the lieutenant governor made the following statement:

“Based upon unprecedented issues facing the members of the Republican Party of Texas I have set strict rules that will be followed by every Republican office holder while conducting business in the Senate during the 2019 Legislative Session. Effective immediately the members of the Party will be bound to the following set of rules and guidelines.”

1. Racist comments will not be tolerated. Racism is bad, very bad and any Republican Senator who has a racist thought or gesture should keep it to themselves and express their opinion only in the privacy of their own home.

2. Do not send dick pics to interns. There will be many young interns working in the halls of the Senate. I expect every Republican Senator, including Senator Charles Schwertner, to refrain from texting the interns and sending dick pics while on the Senate floor.

3. Do not call women the C word. I do not expect Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller to visit the Senate but if he does, do not follow his example and call women names, especially the C word. It is extremely offensive.

4. Don’t steal your donors money. Campaign donations are to be used for your campaigns only, not for vacations, or mistresses, or sending your kids to private yachting lessons.

5. Don’t be a dick. The Republican Party has become as popular as herpes at a hot tub party. Please do not contribute to this stereotype by being a dick about everything. Just don’t be a dick. Please.

It is sad that in the 21st century I have to remind members of my party not to be racist, a creep, a Misogynists, a  robber, and a dick. For f*** sakes folks. Grow up.

Tony Buzbee was full of shit. Literally.

January 22, 2019

This is what you can expect from a Trump loving candidate for Mayor of the great City of Houston. From ABC13

If you imagined a 2019 Houston mayoral election that would be bland and uneventful, the wheelbarrows of horse manure outside mayoral candidate Tony Buzbee’s midtown campaign headquarters would say (smell?) otherwise.”

Look folks. If if looks like Trump, smells like Trump, it probably is a Trump. Buzbee, like his press conference, is full of shit. Do yourself a favor and read about Tony Buzbee the Trumpette of Houston.

Buzbee is a politically ignorant, wealthy, “tell it like it is”, not a politician, lawyer who intends to self finance a run for Mayor of Houston, a political office. Sound familiar? It should. Buzbee is the Donald Trump of Houston.

Let’s don’t cheapen our political process in Houston. We have seen the damage a politically ignorant candidate can do for our country. Let’s don’t bring that pile of shit to Houston.
