Why are you running? Democratic Socialist Pervez Agwan.

January 12, 2024

He is a Bernie Sanders, Democratic Socialist.

Years ago the Justice Democrats, a socialist organization formed in 2017 and funded by Bernie Sanders, ran 80 candidates across the country. Out of 80 candidates endorsed by JD, only 7 won. 2 were incumbents in deep blue districts. 1 was unopposed.  4 were all in very blue districts wiping out their general election opponents. The “Run everywhere” concept didn’t work so they changed their strategy in order to take control of the Democratic Party (Which is actually the written goal of the Democratic Socialists)

Now they have a more targeted approach running in deep blue areas against established Democrats in the Democratic primary and capitalizing on the power of the base. Pervez Agwan, a newbie into politics, is one of those candidates challenging Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. Fletcher ran in 2018 and beat long time incumbent John Culberson. She has been a great elected official, served her district well, has chosen to make progress instead of making noise.

That is the difference between the two. Much like the members of “The Squad” Agwan is fast talking, rattling off pie in the sky Bernie Sanders ideas such as Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, giving power to the people, yada, yada, yada. It was old in 2016. It’s old now. In 2018 Fletcher beat a well financed Bernie Sanders, far lefty by 40 points in a runoff in the primary but Agwan sees an opportunity due to the redistricting process making the district a solid Democratic seat.

As I said, that is their plan. Challenge great Democrats in deep blue areas. Unlike so called “Progressives” in The Squad, Fletcher actually makes progress. She knows that governing requires reaching across the aisle, working with others to make progress. It’s not fast enough for Agwan or The Squad. They tend to wave their arms in the air calling for Medicare for All tomorrow yet not willing to do the hard work to actually make it happen.

Just like Bernie Sanders. He has been waving his fuckin arms for 4 decades and hasn’t progressed.

More on this race later.

2024. The Year of the Conservative

January 10, 2024

Americans are counting on you.

2024 must be the year when conservatives restores the Party of Lincoln to the traditional conservative values they once stood for. In November the election will not be about politics or differences in opinion on issues such as the economy or national security policies. It is an election about right vs wrong. Conservatives know the difference. The vast majority of Americans know the difference. Americans teach children the difference. Our teachers expect kids to know the difference and employers demand their employees to know the difference.

Ever since 2015 the leadership of the Republican Party has perverted the conservative label starting with calling immigrants rapists, and thieves. Over the last eight years they have tolerated racist comments, calling elected officials names, talking about grabbing women by the p*ssy, adultery, lying, cheating, stealing, and more. That wasn’t enough for conservatives to abandon their nominee.

For years the conservatives of the republican party stood their ground and drew a line in the moral sand, then drew another, then another, then another. So now they tolerate racism, adultery, misogyny, meeting with known white supremacists, admitting to taking highly classified documents, hiding them from the FBI, and lying about it. They tolerate lying every single day. They tolerate attacks on the gay community, teachers, police, and even the military. They tolerate being impeached, twice. They tolerate being indicted on 91 felony counts. They tolerate inciting violence and making Hitler like statements and they tolerate whining every time they lose.

Conservatives can’t draw another line in the sand without being laughed at. Conservatives have lost their party. Trump will be their nominee for President even if he is convicted on any one or more of the 91 felony charges filed against him. That battle has been lost but the war can still be won starting in November. Conservatives know the difference between right and wrong and voting to put that rotten, filthy, racist human being back into the White House is wrong.

No one is expecting true conservatives to vote for Biden or join the Democratic Party, but they are hoping that they will rise to the occasion and vote to keep Trump out of office and help our country return to American values, values such as honor, integrity, and winning or losing with dignity. America is counting on you.

Happy New Year.

“Anti Government” group enters League City elections

January 9, 2024

UPDATE: Candidate Chris Dodson has also refused to attend.

They’re not doing very well.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has added the True Texas Project to their list of extremist organizations categorized as a general anti-government organization. The local group has attempted to enter the League City elections by holding a forum for the candidates. Unfortunately only one, the book burner an Nick Long’s boy, Courtney Chadwell, has accepted the invitation. Here is the line up:

I don’t think Ange or Dodson knows who the TTP is or who Joshua is. Joshua is leading the book banning charge in League City roaming the kids section of the library searching for books that say pee-pee or wee-wee. His group has had speakers advocating for Texas to secede from the United States (a really stupid and illegal idea). His group was banned from using the facilities by Buzz Aldrin’s Presbyterian church in Webster for its extreme views which the church did not condone. From the Chronicle:

The group’s lineup of featured speakers indicates its alignment with radical white supremacist and anti-LGBTQ policies. Kelly Neidert, founder and leader of the anti-LGBTQ organization Protect Texas Kids, said she’s slated to be a featured speaker at TTP’s upcoming events

They also have interfaced with Chris Russo, leader of a local anti-immigrant PAC, outed by The Texas Tribune as meeting with a known white supremacist, Nick Fuentes. They supported Bryan Slaton an anti LGBTQ State Representative who was removed from the Texas House for providing alcohol to a minor and they having sex with her.

I’ll make sure Ange and Dodson knows who they are meeting with. Courtney knows who they are. We should know who he is.

Raising Campaign Cash: League City Special Election Jan 2023

January 8, 2024

The choices are pretty clear.

Campaign finance reports are in for the special election for League City Council. One thing is for sure. We know who the book banner wants on city council.

Courtney Chadwell. Raised $2432.10 from one donor, Mayor Nick Long from an in-kind contribution. Besides that donation Chadwell has used his own wealth to run. He has $0 Cash on hand and has spent over $5500. From a prior report: Spent $4595 on a personal credit card. Ange Mertens has spent over $7000 and over $4500 is from personal loans.

Ange Mertens. Raised $250. She has $543 Cash on hand. From a prior report: Raised $3300. $2800 from one donor out of Texas City and $500 from an unknown donor. Spent $7034. Has a $3000 personal loan and a $1515 loan.

Chris Dodson. Did not raise any funds. He has $339 Cash on hand. From a prior report: Raised $100 spent $250.

Katherine Swanson. Raised $1021 from a number of individuals. From a previous report: Raised $1272. Spent $464. Includes a personal contribution of $1000.

Rachel McAdam. Raised $180. She has $239 Cash on hand. From a previous report: Raised $1691. Spent $327.

Clear Lake elected officials who continue to tolerate racism, white supremacy, Trump

January 8, 2024

It makes you want to ask “What the fuck is wrong with you?”

We all know who trump is. If an elected official still supports trump then they tolerate lying, fucking a porn star, paying her off, and lying about it, cheating, stealing highly classified documents, hiding them and lying to the FBI, meeting with Nick Fuentes a known white supremacist, making racist comments, inciting a riot at the United States Capitol and watching it for over 3 hours on TV, attempting to overturn an election, condoning violence, failure to transfer power peacefully, whining like a little bitch about everything, mimicking Hitler, palling around with dictators, being an incredible fucking hypocrite, and the list goes on and on.

So here are the elected officials in the Clear Lake area that continue to support this filthy human being for President of the great country on earth:

  • Congressman Randy Weber. Weber has his nose so far up trump ass he can’t smell the corruption.
  • Congressman Brian Babin. Firmy stuck in Trump’s ass.
  • Senator “Money” Mayes Middleton. Mayes is a new kind of “christian conservative”. LOL. Go figure.
  • State Representative Terri Wilson. She has no problem with his comments about grabbing women by the p*ssy.
  • State Representative Dennis Paul. Dennis is a “Catholic conservative”. He needs to have a talk with his priest.
  • State Representative Little Baby Briscoe Cain. He worked on helping to overturn the election. He and trump failed. 61 times.
  • League City Mayor Nick Long. Leader of the famous book ban and The Purge.
  • League City Councilman Justin Hicks. A veteran who obviously has no problem with stealing classified documents, claiming our military is weak, or calling Veterans “losers”.
  • City Councilman Fred Flickinger. Newly elected city councilman for Clear Lake. Pure MAGAt.
  • CCISD Trustee Scott Bowen. Another MAGAt.

So who am I missing? I’m going to update this list as necessary. If any of the above does not support this filthy human being for President, please contact me so I can update the list.

Until then, GFY.

Happy insurrection day for those who celebrate

January 6, 2024

There is something truly wrong with you if you celebrate this day, or defend those who are in jail, those who participated, those who instigated it, or those who were in power to stop it yet did nothing for 3 hours except watch it on TV.

Patriots my ass.

Movie Review: Poor Things

January 5, 2024

See it? Rent it? Or skip it?

Skip it. In fact it is close to being one of those movies you rent from Redbox with a free rental coupon, give it to your neighbors to watch, then steal their lawnmower. At least you will get something out of it.

Seriously, we almost left and went to see Godzilla Minus One just like we almost did with Napoleon. It was slow, full of sex, and pointless. If you want to see Emma Stone naked, multiple times, having sex, go see it. If that is what turns you on. Other than that I saw no point in it. I should have known better since Willem Dafoe was a main character. Much like The Lighthouse, it sucked.

What I said about The Lighthouse applies to Poor Things:

$8 damn dollars down the drain.

I felt I needed to wear a black beret, smoke a thin colored cigarette, eat at a open air cafe with free roaming feral cats, drink an overly expensive espresso while talking about the inherent meaning of the film, it’s underlying implications, and how it would affect me as a human being who just wasted $8 damn dollars.

What the living hell was this all about?

Do yourself a favor. Skip it.

Raising Campaign Cash: League City Special Election

January 5, 2024

League City will have a special election to fill a vacant seat on City Council on Jan 13. Here is a summary of the candidates campaign finance reports from their Dec 2024 reports. You can view all council members and candidates reports here.

Ange Mertens. Raised $3300. $2800 from one donor out of Texas City and $500 from an unknown donor. Spent $7034. Has a $3000 personal loan and a $1515 loan.

Chris Dodson. Raised $100. Spent $240.

Courtney Chadwell. Raised $0. Spent $4595 on a personal credit card.

Katherine Swanson. Raised $1272. Spent $464. Includes a personal contribution of $1000.

Rachel McAdam. Raised $1691. Spent $327.

Will the League City SausageFest continue?

January 4, 2024

A little diversity is alway good.

League City is having a special election to fill a vacated seat on Council. This election is on January 13 and early voting has already begun. Over the last few years the council has been a male only country club. Not that this is always bad. There are some very good council members and then there is Captain Chaos, Justin Hicks, and his side kick, Mayor Nick Long. Male. White. Extremists. It’s not a good look. They seem to enjoy chaos.

I have never believed in voting for a person because they are male, female, white, Hispanic, etc, etc. Each person must be able to do the job. Each should be qualified. Pick the best to do the job, one that would lead without chaos. According to the League City website there are 5 candidates running:

The Galveston County Daily News has a good write up on the candidates. I thought the comments about bringing civility back to council is right on. To that Courtney Chadwell is supported by Nick Long and Captain Chaos. He is spending his own money to win this race and would continue the sausageFest on council and would probably contribute to the chaos. That can’t be good for the city.

Good luck League City! The election is Jan 13.

TX Republican candidate left with egg on her face

January 3, 2024

There is no bottom.

Mayra Flores is a Mexican MAGAt. She won a special election in south Texas and served for about 6 months. On New Years Eve she made a series of mistakes leaving her with egg on her face.

On NYE Mayra tweeted a picture celebrating life on the ranch. It went down hill from there. Here it is:

From Lone Star Left:

In fact, this yummy meal wasn’t from Flores’s family ranch; it wasn’t even from America. As Twitter user Ben Anderson discovered, the picture Mayra Flores used on New Year’s Eve, claiming it was a family meal on her family ranch, was a STOLEN picture from the Guyanese Facebook Page,

Once she was caught, she deleted her Twitter account, then created a new one, then began banning users from her account once they found her and made fun of her. Besides that, Mexican Americans don’t eat stew on NYE. We eat Carne Guisada. It’s a Mexican version of stew. It’s delicious, nutritious, filling. It’s bad enough that a small percentage of Mexican Americans are MAGAts but this culinary fuck up is bad.

Mayra is a Mexican MAGAt. She like Trump is a fuckin liar, a cheat, a disgrace to all Mexican Americans and to the human race. She lies to her God, her Country, and with her Family.

What a fucking disgrace.

The fake Political Action Committee that meddled in Houston Elections

January 2, 2024

Elizabeth Sanders of the Houston Chronicle wrote a very interesting article concerning a mystery PAC meddling in Houston City elections. It is well worth a read.

In short, a PAC identified as the Houston Hispanic Action Committee sent mailers out to District G voters advocating for an unknown, first time, candidate for City Council who raised only $125. The candidate received 11% of the vote and sent the race into a runoff. City Council Member Mary Nan Huffman failed to receive the 50% margin by only a few hundred votes. The PAC also advocated against Huffman incorrectly saying she endorsed Trump for reelection.

So. Who is the Houston Hispanic Action Committee (HHPAC)? No one knows but someone spent a good amount of money to help Buzbee get to a runoff. HHPAC is not registered with the Texas Ethics Commission. They did not appoint a treasurer. These are very serious violations and could result in large fines especially if it was done deliberately to influence an election. Sending out mailers was deliberate. An ethics complaint should be filed.

Unfortunately there is no contact information available for HHPAC. They had a website up until today. The domain name https://houstonhispanicaction.com was created in Sept of 2023 just in time for the election. The administrator of the domain is hidden. They had a Facebook page until today. That page is no longer active. In order to file a complaint with the Texas Ethics Commission you need contact information for the Houston Hispanic Action Committee and there is none.

According to the article the PAC used a specific printer, Long Plan Printing or LP Printing. They have declined to provide who paid for the printing but there is a way to find out. According to the Texas Ethics Commission LP Printing has received over $163,000 over the last ten years mainly from Republican candidates and organizations. Spring Republicans spent over $93,000 for services during this time period.

Sending these mailers under a fake PAC name is a serious violation of the laws governing campaigns and it should be investigated by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office or the Harris County Attorney’s office. They have the authority to issue subpoenas and find out who designed the mailers and who paid for the mailers to be sent. If this is allowed to go unpunished it could affect elections on all levels in the future.

The year in review. 2023

January 1, 2024

What a year. The only way for 2024 to be a good year is if the real conservatives of the Republican Party takes back their party. Here is what happened in 2023:

  • OMG. CCISD Trustee Scott Bowen was found to have a relationship with known white supremacists.
  • Trustee Scott Bowen was cleared on a grievance filed because he testified agains public education at a hearing in Austin.
  • Scott Bowen’s buddy, Pete Lauzon, funded by Defend Texas Liberty, loses his election for CCISD Trustee.
  • Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was allowed to continue his reign of corruption in Texas.
  • Local State Representatives vote against impeaching Ken Paxton even after overwhelming evidence. (Paul, Wilson, Middleton)
  • Republican Bryan Slater was removed from office after giving his underaged staffer alcohol and having sex with her all night long.
  • Republican Congressman George Santos was removed from office.
  • Tony Buzbee lost. Again.
  • Harris County Board of Education filled a vacant slot with Dick. (Eric Dick)
  • Harris County Board of Education Trustee Dick was fined another $10,000 by the Texas Ethics Commission
  • A former Chair of the Harris County Republican Party and a Republican Judge and pastor settled a sex abuse lawsuit concerning young men.
  • League City continues The Purge after firing their attorney, the librarian, and continuing their selective book ban,
  • OMG The Chair of the PAC funded by a couple of billionaires, Defend Texas Liberty, was caught meeting with a known white supremacist. This is the PAC that tried to tip the CCISD elections.
  • Mattress MAGAt Mac is behind the multiple lawsuits against Democratic Judges that won in 2022.
  • The lawsuits against multiple Democratic Judges have been dropped, including the one against Judge Hidalgo.
  • Texas Republicans continue to send useless thoughts and prayers after mass shootings.
  • Local State Representative Dennis Paul continues to ignore gun violence even after one of his own is killed due to senseless gun violence,
  • City Councilman Michael Kubosh was caught using his donor’s money for personal use. He was running for City Controller. (was)

What a year. Here’s hoping that the true conservatives of America will keep that rotten son of a bitch out of the White House and start to rebuild their party.

Texas AG’s office collecting unpaid Ethics fines (or are they?)

December 31, 2023

Don’t hold your breath.

The Texas Ethics Commission has referred a number of ethic violation fines for collection including my buddy Eric Dick who was fined $30,000 for his mailer in the 2019 City Council races. They also referred Eric’s partner, Philip Bryant, who was fined $6000 for his role in the mailer scheme. You can view the entire list from 1/1/2016 to 1/23/2023 here.

From the period listed 623 fines amounting to $2,201,228, were referred to the Texas Attorney General’s Office for collection. 81 have been “Paid in Full” for a small total of $258,251 just over 10%. 422 fines amounting to $1,214,950 are in a “Claims filed” status dating back to 2016.

The fines includes $36,900 for a delinquent filer, Christopher Graham, a candidate for State Representative and the $30,000 fine against Eric Dick. There are some very significant fines that are being collected. (See the list below of fines over $20,000) It is disturbing that 422 fines are in “Claims Filed” status and have lingered. It is almost as if the Texas AG’s Office is not pursuing these fines.

In a State of lawlessness, it shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Republican candidate for the Texas House settles sex abuse lawsuit

December 29, 2023

Seriously, you just can’t make this stuff up.

Jared Woodfill, according to his campaign website, is a “former Chair of the Harris County Republican Party, President of Conservative Republicans of Texas, Proud Member of the Second Baptist Church, and devoted husband, father, christian”. Today a sex abuse lawsuit against the Southern Baptist Convention has been settled. According to The Texas Tribune:

The Southern Baptist Convention and others have reached a confidential settlement in a high-profile lawsuit that accused a former leader of sexual assault, ending a six-year legal drama that expanded victims’ rights in Texas, helped prompt a broader reckoning over child sexual abuse in evangelical churches and showed that a prominent conservative activist and Texas House candidate repeatedly downplayed abuse allegations.

Jared Woodfill is that House Candidate that repeatedly downplayed the abuse allegations and former Republican Judge Paul Dressler is the leader in the church. The details of the settlement have not been disclosed but the allegations are pretty damning. Here is the part about Woodfill knowing about the allegations from the Tribune:

In recent sworn testimony, Woodfill said he’d known since 2004 of an allegation that Pressler had sexually abused a child. Woodfill learned of those claims, he said, during mediation of an assault lawsuit filed against Pressler that he helped quietly settle for nearly a half-million dollars at the time. Despite his knowledge of the accusation, Woodfill continued to work with Pressler for nearly a decade — leaning on Pressler’s name and reputation to bolster their firm, Woodfill & Pressler LLP.
Rather than pay him a salary, Woodfill testified, the firm provided Pressler a string of employees to serve as personal assistants, most of them young men who typically worked out of his River Oaks mansion. Two have accused Pressler of sexual assault or misconduct.

SWEET HOLY MOSES! The Texas Tribune’s article is pretty damning in itself. Here is a snippet:

In 2017, Duane Rollins filed the lawsuit accusing Paul Pressler, a longtime Southern Baptist figure and former Texas judge, of decades of rape beginning when Rollins was a 14-year-old member of Pressler’s church youth group in Houston.

….Rollins filed the suit in Harris County against Pressler along with other defendants who he accused of enabling or concealing Pressler’s behavior — including the Southern Baptist Convention and Jared Woodfill, the former chair of the Harris County GOP and Pressler’s longtime law partner. ….The suit also showed that Woodfill, a prominent anti-LGBTQ+ activist, was aware of allegations that Pressler was a sexual predator but continued to provide him with young, male personal assistants who worked out of Pressler’s River Oaks home.

This truly is some fucked up sh*t but then again Woodfill represents the Republican Party pretty well. Of course Woodfill claims he has not settled the suit although his attorneys say otherwise. Maybe he is doing what republicans do best.

Lie. Go read the article.

Unpaid fines issued by the Texas Ethics Commission over the last 10 years

December 29, 2023

Dang. It is hard to get away from this guy.

Through an open records request the Texas Ethics Commission provided an excellent list of unpaid TEC fines over the past 10 years. The complete list can be viewed here. Leading the field of those who have refused to pay is Harris County Department of Education Trustee Eric Dick.

Dick was fined $30,000 and $10,000 for two different violations. The $30,000 fine leads the field of 47 that are unpaid. (Note Sharon Faye Keller is the Presiding Judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. She was fined a whopping $100,000 but settled with the TEC for $25,000 and paid it. More later) Dick’s $30,000 came from a Final Order issued by the TEC. The $10,000 came from an agreement by the TEC and Dick. I expect the $10,000 to be paid. The $30,000 fine has been referred to the Texas Attorney General for collection.

The TEC provided a great 13 page list of those who have been fined over the last 10 years. Their summary of the data is as follows:

It’s an impressive list with an 88% rate of collections. Of the 367 sanctions by the TEC 43 were referred to the Texas Attorney General for collections. More on that later. Only 4 of the 43 have been collected.

There needs to be a deeper look into the 43 fines referred to the Texas AG.

Who is running in the 2024 Democratic Primary

December 27, 2023

Here are the candidates running in the 2024 Democratic Primary in our area. Some do not have a website running yet. This list does not include judicial races. Some notes:

I’m not sure why anyone would challenge our incumbents except for the District Attorney race. Menefee has performed very well for the county. So has Ed Gonzales. Tax Assessor is an open seat with Ann Bennett declining to run again. Should be an interesting race. The winner will go against a well known former Republican Commissioner. We have a primary for railroad commissioner. Every election we field a very well qualified candidate but cant seem to break through. In the Senate race we have 10 candidates. There seems to be two top candidates that will end in a runoff between Allred and Gutierrez.

Harris County Democratic Judge declared ineligible to run

December 23, 2023

While Harris County Democrats were busy passing a useless resolution admonishing the District Attorney and worrying about pronouns, one of the Democratic Judges has been deemed ineligible to run for re-election. Go figure.

Judge of the 333rd Judicial Court, Brittanye Morris has had her application for re-election rejected. Morris, in 2020, ran against a very well qualified and excellent Judge, Daryl Moore, and won in the primary and in the general election. Moore was an outstanding judge. Morris came out of no where, had raised very little money, and really had no good reason to challenge an incumbent but she did. And she won. And now she lost because she is not on the ballot.

Why she has been declared ineligible to run has not been disclosed. I am hoping it is nothing but a technical error that can be successfully addressed. We will see.

Until then Democrats need to stop being distracted on stupid shit and focus on what fucking matters.

Yes you can run for City Council and have a homestead exemption in another county

December 23, 2023
Dave Wilson

I don’t like it but I accept it.

Thanks to Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee for responding to this. As my 5 readers recall I noted that Houston City Council Member Elect, Wille Ray Davis, listed his residence as the City of Houston while taking a homestead and disable veteran exemption on his $600,000 home in Brazoria County. This exemption does not disqualify him from running in the City or voting in Harris County.

As I said, I do not like it but I accept it. A few years ago Dave Wilson, a candidate for Houston Community College, was sued by the County Attorney for not residing in the district he was running in. Wilson, a supporter of the sanctity of marriage, was separated from his wife and listed his residency as a 1,140-square-foot apartment upstairs at his office, located at 5600 W. 34th St. in the college system’s District II. He eventually won this lawsuit and took his seat on the Board. He eventually resigned.

So, back to Davis. The case against Wilson showed taking a homestead exemption doesn’t necessarily determine where you live, where you put your head down at night. It doesn’t make sense to those of us who are not trained in law. It’s not hard to understand but it is hard to accept. So there. A candidate can take a homestead exemption in another county and run in Houston for office by just claiming an address in Houston and claiming they live there.

I wonder if someone was tailed the candidate for a month, his cell phone traffic was investigated, and it showed they did not lay their head at their Houston address but instead at their homestead if that would make a difference.

Regardless, we can attend the inauguration ceremony on Jan 2 and welcome Willie Davis to the Houston City Council.

In defense of Harris County DA Kim Ogg

December 21, 2023

I believe we need to thank Kim Ogg for her service then nominate Sean Teare for DA in 2024, but let’s be honest, she has received some undue criticism.

Personally I believe Kim Ogg has worn out her welcome with her constant drama concerning Commissioners Court and the primary of 2022 but the issue with the COVID contract award and the investigation is justified and troubling. On the surface it stinks. The County awarded a multi million dollar contract to a small, local, woman-owned firm called Elevate. The allegations by a member of the Commissioner’s Court claimed that this company did not have any employees, had no experience for the job, was given special treatment, and was selected as a political favor. All of these allegations are disturbing if true. Judge Hidalgo has published a page debunking these allegations. It is worth a read.

The contract was eventually cancelled and District Attorney, Kim Ogg, began an investigation that has resulted in the indictment of three members of her staff. Having served on multiple grand juries I find it very disturbing that multiple indictments were handed down. On a vote of at least 9-3 the grand jury believed there was sufficient evidence that a crime was committed. A grand jury provides a check and balance for those charged with a crime. Every grand jury I have served on took their jobs extremely seriously. So as I said, it bothers me. We will see if the allegations hold water next year.

As I have said above, this entire situation with this contract stinks. Ogg’s giddiness in publicly investigating the issue doesn’t help. Neither does the drip, drip, drip, of additional information by the Houston Chronicle. It all doesn’t pass the smell test and those who think this is yet another political attack on the Harris County Judge need to take a step back and ask themselves what they would want the DA to do if the Judge was a Republican.

Personally I believe the three staffers will be acquitted. I do not believe they were that stupid to do something that stupid.

Will the City of Houston or Harris County investigate voter fraud or not?

December 21, 2023

I just don’t get it.

After the 2022 election the Harris County Republican Party bitched and moaned about voter fraud. They filed multiple lawsuits, all but one, was dismissed and the election results stood. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg was also quick to call for an investigation. So far her investigation continues.

Yet here we have a situation with a candidate for Houston City Council, Willie Ray Davis, who won in the runoff, with very questionable residency issues and no one is looking at this. Not the City. Not Harris County Attorney’s office. Not Harris County District Attorney’s office. Not the Ballot Integrity Committee of the Harris County Republican Party. And not the media.

What the fuck over? As noted before Willie Davis claims on his application to run for office that he lives in the City of Houston but according to Brazoria County he bought a new home in 2021 AND took a homestead exemption and a disabled veterans exemption. (Thank you for your service) In order to take that exemption he must live in the home for 12 months and in order to run for office he must live in the city of Houston for 12 months.

Besides that issue, Davis voter registration card lists his residency as the City of Houston while he has a homestead exemption in Brazoria County. Isn’t this voter fraud?

I’ve asked the City to investigate. They referred me to the Harris County Attorney. The City Attorney, the County Attorney and County DA should be investigating this issue. I don’t know how much clearer this needs to be. According to official documents Willie Davis does not live in Houston and should have been disqualified from running.

The City and County needs to either get off their asses and do something or make it real clear that you can run for office in the City of Houston without actually living in the City of Houston.
