Who is running for CCISD School Board

February 11, 2022

The application deadline is approaching for those interested in running for the two positions open on the CCISD School Board, At Large Position B and District 1. Deadline is 2/18/2022 at 5:00 PM. Visit the CCISD Election Central for details. At the moment there are 4 candidates:

District 1:

Dr. Laura DuPont was elected to the District 1 seat on the CCISD school board in May 2013. As of today she is not running for re-election. Dr. DuPont has served as the secretary of the board. We thank her for her many years of excellent service to the district, the kids, and the parents!

Misty Dawson. From her Facebook page: Education, not Indoctrination: We need to keep politics out of the classroom. In the current political climate, it can be hard to find a way of talking about politics without facing criticism or heckling. Discussion on these issues should happen in the home, not in school–where students are more likely to feel judged for their views. They are in class to learn, not to be divided, and divisive curriculum such as Critical Race Theory (CRT) should be kept out of CCISD. We should be bringing people together, not finding ways to split children apart for political reasons.

Jessica Cejka. From her Facebook page: “I am currently a real estate agent and mom of 3 CCISD students, but previously worked in the education realm for 15 years. I have a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Texas A&M University and two master’s degrees from University of Houston Clear Lake in instructional technology and educational administration. I taught middle school and high school math for 7 years before joining the NASA JSC Office of Education. While at JSC, I worked with high school and community college students, as well as middle school teachers, as they each completed online curriculum and hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities. ” She has signed the Code of Fair Campaign Practices.

At Large Position B:

Kyrsten Garcia. From her Facebook Page: “I am a former classroom teacher, passionate advocate, mother, and learner. Before I graduated in 2008, I discovered my passion for education in Ready, Set, Teach at Clear Creek High School. In 2011, I graduated from Texas A&M University with my Bachelor of Arts in English – Rhetoric.  After school, I worked facilitating leadership training, strategic planning, and individualized education plans for city government and private employees across the state. I moved back to League City in 2013, where I supported sales, rental, calibration, field service training, and inventory for a hydraulic bolting and torquing company in League City. “

Carl Nunn. From his Facebook Page: “I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Carl Nunn, and I’m running for CCISD Trustee At-Large this May. Trustees fundamentally need to earn the trust of the parents and teachers in our district, so I’d like to tell you why I’m running. I think It is time to refocus on our students’ needs and invest in the recruitment and retention of our teachers. We can only do this by keeping the politics and side shows out of our district by staying away from the already banned programs and being the voice for our parents rather than their enemy.”

Scott Bowen. Scott has been a disruptive force on the board. He has brought his extreme partisan political views into the school board. He has encouraged other political hacks to run (and lose) and to attend school board meetings pushing unfounded conspiracy theories and harassing the board members. He is a UFO. Unfit For Office. He has two good challengers. Pick one. We need to take politics and Scott Bowen out of the CCISD School Board and out of our schools.

Keep partisan politics out of our schools and our CCISD Board of Trustees

February 1, 2022

NOTE: I am very partisan but I do not believe partisan politics belongs in our schools or our boards. I have no idea of the partisan nature of the members of the board, except for a few, and that is how it should be.

I really dislike Scott Bowen, CCISD Trustee. He is up for re-election in May.

Bowen is a Qanon republican. His education experience consists of attending Clear Lake High School. He upset a long standing trustee spending over $7000 of his own money to win a seat on a school board. He has encouraged disruption at the CCISD board. He donated to a candidate who would have been his right hand Trustee to cause disruption and distract from the business of the board. (She lost but has continued to disrupt at the board meetings) As I have said:

It doesn’t matter what party you belong to or if you even belong to a political party. The kids of CCISD deserve board members who are concerned about education, believes in science, accounting, math, and can display common sense when making decisions. Political stupidity needs to be taken out of the CCISD board.

The Houston Chronicle in their own article “Keep the partisan politics out of local school board races” had this warning to parents in CCISD:

As the Washington Post reported, two candidates were vying for a vacant school board seat. One had been a PTA volunteer for years and had secured endorsements from educators and local community leaders. Her opponent was an anti-masking member of the extreme-right Three Percent Movement. She had the organization’s logo tattooed on her neck in red, white and blue bullets and walked around town with a pistol strapped to her hip. She and her husband homeschooled their three children.

The Three-Percenter won by 200 votes.

Bowen isn’t a member of a right wing militia like the Three-Percenters but he no longer deserves to be on the CCISD Board of Trustees. He currently has a challenger who aligns with the Republican Party but does not seem to wear it on his sleeve or would bring partisan stupidity into the Board.

From the Texas Attorney General’s office concerning Christine Parizo

January 26, 2022

Ugh. Don’t give her any ideas. They suggest Parizo file a complaint with the Secretary of State. This is in reference to Parizo getting escorted out of the CCISD Board meeting.

Former Candidate, Christine Parizo, escorted out of CCISD meeting by police

January 25, 2022

It was only a matter of time.

Former candidate for CCISD School Board, Christine Parizo was escorted out of last nights meeting after moving towards the board and disrupting the meeting. The video is below starting at 1:45:25 right after Jay Cunningham had just finished discussing the complaint that Parizo filed with the Texas Attorney General. (The complaint was dismissed) Watch below. Parizo is in the bottom left corner. After Parizo was escorted out Cunningham address the abuse the board has experienced over the last year or so. Cunningham’s comments are worth watching.

Scott Bowen, who helped Parizo run for office, was pretty quiet the entire time. Like trump he watched as his buddy Christine was removed and Cunningham condemned her actions and those who have been harassing the board over the last year. Scott has contributed to this behavior by Christine and others. As a leader of the Qanon community he could have spread the word to those coming to the meeting to be respectful, truthful, and to act like adults but he didn’t. He left Parizo out to dry.

Could Parizo be banned from future meetings? Probably not but her advancing towards the board could, and should be enough to warrant the board to look into filing charges against her. This year long abuse needs to stop and some people need to grow up.

Take politics out of CCISD!

January 10, 2022

It doesn’t matter what party you belong to or if you even belong to a political party. The kids of CCISD deserve board members who are concerned about education, believes in science, accounting, math, and can display common sense when making decisions. Political stupidity needs to be taken out of the CCISD board.

Raising Campaign Cash: Scott Bowen CCISD Trustee

January 4, 2022

Scott Bowen is up for re-election. He is the lead for the Qanon takeover of CCISD.

During his last election Scott raised $12,371 which, in political terms, is a shit load of money for a school board race. But….$7936 came from his own pocket, with $7000 coming in the form of a personal loan. He raised another $4158 from contributions plus $277 in an in-kind donation.

$1000 of his contributions came from a candidate for Texas House in Corsicana, Thomas McNutt, an extreme right wing candidate who lost in the primary to a more extreme right wing candidate.

Bowen has reported $5529 in unpaid expenditures.

Raising Campaign Cash: Christine Parizo for CCISD

January 2, 2022

Christine Parizo unsuccessfully ran for the CCISD board, losing by 25 points and demanding multiple recounts that cost the district. The recounts confirmed her massive loss.

Parizo raised about $4700 with a $1000 donation from Jeffery Lafleur from Great Falls Virginia, home of the Loundoun County Public School District. Eric Williams, the current CCISD Superintendent, comes from the Loudoun School District. Parizo has no love for him. Jeffery probably doesn’t either. Parizo also received $400 from the Citizens for CCISD PAC funded by State Representative Money Mayes Middleton.

Current CCISD Trustee, Scott Bowen donated $769 in an in kind donation. Norman Pappou donated $310, and Justin Hicks, a League City Council Member, donated $650, both in-kind donations.

Parizo loaned herself $2000. Did I mentioned she lost by 25 points?

Raising Campaign Cash: Citizens for CCISD

December 28, 2021

If you are wondering who maybe sponsoring the disruptions at the CCISD board meetings look at who is donating to the Citizens for CCISD PAC.

According to the Texas Ethics Commission Citizens for CCISD was created  back in 2017 and raised $4800 mostly coming from one donor State Representative “Money” Mayes Middleton. Money Mayes is one of the few candidates who is wealthy enough to completely finance his entire campaign for State Representative spending millions of his own money to win. From a previous post:

According to his latest report Middleton has raised over $1.7 Million (not 1.5) with $1.5 coming from his own pocket, 87% of his entire fundraising efforts. He has $45,099 COH. $1.7Million to win a primary.

$1800 was contributed to the PAC by a few individuals such as Philip Ratisseau, $660, Michael Lee, $400 and others.

Citizens for CCISD donated to Christine Parizo $400 and Kevin Oditt $400. The other expenditures were for various expenses.

Qanon republicans fizzle at CCISD board meeting

December 14, 2021

It’s just so f*cking embarrassing.

The Qanon republicans that have abused the CCISD School Board over the last few months met strong resistance from the community and pretty much just fizzled out. The entire meeting can be viewed below with public comments starting at 1:37:00.

The usual speakers included Christine Parizo whining, once again, about voter fraud with unsubstantiated claims of votes being changed. Parizo lost her race for CCISD School Board by 25 points. Not 2. Not 5. 25. She paid for a recount and lost by 25 points, again. The total vote count was 841 vs 1406 for her opponent. Her website claims she has filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General but the AG had this to say:

Other speakers continued their attack on “CRT” which many could not even spell and once again the Board had to remind them that CRT was not taught in CCISD, was never taught, and will never be taught mainly because CRT is a graduate class and not suitable for undergraduate classes, high school, middle school, elementary school, or kindergarten. The “Fire the Superintendent” crowd seemed to have lost it’s steam and was subdued in their Qanon-ness.

Many speakers thanked the Board for what they are doing and praised the Superintendent for a job well done. (not perfect, but well done). Overall the Qanon’s were not as embarrassing as they have been in the past. Still embarrassing, but not as bad.

Qanon republicans call for the resignation of the CCISD Superintendent

December 11, 2021

The next board meeting and community input ought to be another shit show. It will be truly embarrassing. According to the Houston Chronicle:

A group of Clear Creek ISD parents are calling for the district’s superintendent to resign less than a year into his tenure, saying he has put into place lessons that indoctrinate students with “anti-white” sentiment, an accusation that appears to have followed him from his last job in Virginia.

Eric Williams came to Clear Creek in February from Loudon County Public Schools in northern Virginia, which has become a national flashpoint of right-wing activism over “critical race theory.”

This “group” are the Qanon republicans in the district. The kids in school have more common sense, dignity, and respect for other people than they do. Truly god awful people. Our school board should be making decisions about our students based upon science, education, and accounting principles. Something the Qanon people have no interest in. They thrive on chaos. They enjoy disrupting. Its what they live for.

They probably can’t even spell CRT. The district has stated, over and over and over again the following:

“CRT is not in our curriculum and it’s not in our instructional resources. In fact, our board adopted a policy prohibiting district resources from doing any sort of scapegoating or stereotyping based on race.”

CRT is a graduate course. It is not taught in undergraduate school, or in high school, or in middle school, or elementary school, or kindergarten. Most Qanon republicans don’t know what CRT is and those that do don’t really care. It is all about chaos. Wide eyed, pitch fork carrying, meth head, Qanons.

This is the Republican Party.
