CCISD Candidate Forum recap.

April 14, 2023

The one and only candidate forum was sponsored by the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce. You can view the entire forum here. Here are my thoughts.

There are three candidates running for Trustee that could probably talk your ears off when it comes to education issues, Jamieson Mackay, Glencora Rodgers, and Trustee Arturo Sanchez. All three showed a clear understanding of the issues, but you could tell that a one minute response was not enough for them to provide an adequate response. They all just seemed to have an in depth knowledge of education issues, something we should appreciate.

In District 2 voters will have a tough choice. Both would be a great addition to the Board and community. Both know the issues and both are passionate about education. What more can you ask for?

Arturo Sanchez is clearly the most qualified of candidates for District 3, hands down. His experience, passion, and in depth knowledge of educational issues cannot be matched. As with Mackay and Rodgers, Sanchez will not bring division to our community.

There were a couple of interesting questions which I will highlight below after my next rant.

Peter Lauzon
Peter Lauzon, on the other hand, stuck to what he knew and for those who do not know the background of the issues he might have come off as reasonable. On a number of times he talked about the 2.5% cap on the budget claiming it hinders the growth of the district. Yes there is a cap, but it’s not exactly the highest priority of the district and that cap was put on the district by the state, which is run by his own party. (republican)

He had a chance to denounce vouchers but instead he said CCISD would have to deal with it since his party will probably pass that into law. Everyone else talked about how that would take funds away from CCISD students.

He also kept mentioning that CCISD needs to offer alternative technical courses for those who do not intend to go to college. Again, CCISD has an excellent Career and Technical Education program something a candidate should know. He said CCISD should partner with the Texas Workforce Commission. (They already have a partnership) He said metrics and benchmarking are needed to measure the progress of students. (They do that already) He piggy backed on another candidates comment about establishing faith based partnerships. (They do that already)

He wants more funding for safety, although his party has flooded our streets with guns, allowing 18 year olds to buy assault weapons, allowing anyone to buy a walk around in public with guns. The district has spent millions on safety measures all because his party will not solve the problem of gun violence.

When asked about getting questions on social media he claimed that he would reach out to the parents to understand the issue, yet he has blocked a number of people on his Facebook page.

When asked about what specific training he would need to become an effective Trustee he answered that he would take all the training provided. (didn’t really answer the question)

Bullying and threats
I thought the question about bullying at the school board meeting needs to be discussed in an open forum. Glencora could have taken 10 minutes to talk about civility at the meetings but her response was what we all expected. It needs to stop and civility needs to return to the board meetings. She was also asked about what to do about threats to Board members. I did not remember the response, but I think we all know this is unacceptable and some people need to get a life.

Vouchers, school choice, charter schools
Every candidate should have been asked about vouchers. Except for Lauzon, all three had great answers to vouchers and charter schools. Vouchers will take money away from the district, a district that has excellent choices for education. Charter schools should be required to adhere to the same public school standards since they are using tax dollars. Lauzon had opportunities to voice his opinion but didn’t. His party’s platform supports vouchers, charter schools, and privatizing public education.

Other questions that were not asked
I would have like to hear if anyone would accept PAC money or money from partisan organizations. So far only one candidate has. There should have been a question about what the Board could do to address the loss of funding from vouchers.

Another extremist PAC endorses in the CCISD election

April 13, 2023

The Clear Lake satellite of True Texas Project, the one that was thrown out of Buzz Aldrin’s church, has entered the CCISD elections by endorsing the far right candidate, Peter Lauzon. Lauzon’s campaign is being funded by another extreme far right PAC, Defend Texas Liberty. From the Houston Chronicle:

The far-right political activism organization True Texas Project planned to hold multiple events at Webster Presbyterian Church this summer. Church authorities canceled the events and removed TTP from its schedule upon learning more about the group.

The Southern Poverty Law Center labeled TTP as an extremist anti-government group last year. They have since moved to a government community center for their anti-government meetings. (LOL) Their largest donor to their PAC is, once again, Timothy Dunn who has funded Defend Texas Liberty and was featured on a CNN investigation. Dunn is a billionaire spending his money on extreme far right organizations such as TPP specifically to take over school boards.

Expect to see lots of money from these two extremists to flood the CCISD election in favor of Peter Lauzon.

Raising Campaign Cash: State Representative Bryan Slaton

April 11, 2023

State Representative Bryan Slaton, pictured here with his 2nd and third wives, is a fire breathing Jesus loving hypocrite, as most republicans are today. He is currently under investigation by the House for an inappropriate incident with a 21 year old intern and has been asked to resign by two other hypocrites for making them look bad.

According to the Texas Ethics Commission Slaton has raised $1,143,735 since he filed for election in 2016. Of that $730,261 came from 8 individuals/PACs, or 64%. $160,500 came from the Defend Texas Liberty PAC funded by 2 billionaires, Timothy Dunn and Farris Wilks. Dunn contributed and additional $275,000 and Wilks donated $98,500.

Dunn and Wilks were featured by CNN Investigations “How two Texas megadonors have turbocharged the state’s far-right shift”. Both have a combined total of donations of $28 Million overshadowing the Texas Homebuilders, Bob Perry and David Weekley as the new oligarchs of Texas of Texas.

Of note these are the guys who are financing Peter Lauzon running for CCISD Trustee. Lauzon took $5000 from these guys, an amount that should be overkill. Unfortunately more is coming.

This is who they are. I’ll be following this investigation. It’s got to be bad if State Representative Little Baby Briscoe Cain is calling for his resignation.

Oh how the holiest have fallen: Texas State Representative Brian Slaton

April 11, 2023

OMG. Literally. UPDATE:

Providing Alcohol to a Minor.
Making alcoholic beverages available to a minor is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $4,000, confinement in jail for up to a year or both. Your driver´s license would also be automatically suspended for 180 days when they are convicted.

Texas State Representative Brian Slaton is a “praise the Lord, Jesus is my savior, I am holier than thou” kind of representative. Yesterday the Austin Chronicle wrote a story about Slaton being AWOL from important votes on the budget, one that he had written numerous amendments to. In perfect Trump style Slaton responded:

“We are aware of outrageous claims circulating online by second-tier media that make false claims against Representative Slaton,” Short said. “As a result, he has been advised to forward all inquiries in this matter —including any that may relate to a possible complaint — to his legal counsel.”

Second-tier media. LOL. Just like Trump, but I digress. Today the Texas Tribune identifies why Slaton has hired a criminal defense attorney. According to the Tribune the holier than thou State Representative:

An internal complaint filed against state Rep. Bryan Slaton, R-Royse City, alleges that he was engaging in a potentially “inappropriate relationship” with an intern. The complaint came after an incident in which Slaton and the staffer allegedly met up at his Austin apartment last weekend.

Oops. According to Slaton he is a “a bold and brave Christian-Conservative” which means he is probably a giant hypocrite, like most who claim they are “a bold and brave Christian-Conservative”. It always seems that way. Slaton is one of those fire breathing anti-lgbtq member. He probably defends the sanctity of marriage, believing marriage is between one man and one woman, at one time much like Representative Tony Tinderholt who has been married 5 times with 4 different women. Slaton is on at least his second. Slaton runs on the typical topics, abortion, immigration, gun nuts, oh, and family values.

According to the Texas Tribune it looks like there is more to inviting a young intern to his apartment. It looks like he was encouraging her to not remember nuttin much like what Trump would do or a mob boss:

A source with direct knowledge of the incident told the Tribune that Slaton drank alcohol with the intern, who was under 21.

After the incident, Slaton allegedly showed the intern fake emails that purported to have information about the incident in what appeared to be something of a loyalty test, according to the complaint and a person with direct knowledge. After presenting her the email, Slaton allegedly told her to not speak with anyone about the incident.

Since this story has broken, State Representative Little Baby Brisoe Cain, pictured here after losing his mom at the airport, has called for Slaton to resign. LOL. This is going to delicious.

Greg Abbott to pardon open carry killer.

April 10, 2023

if you are wondering if you can shoot and kill someone walking down the street with an assault weapon, the answer you seek is coming from Abbott. According to the Houston Chronicle:

Sgt. Daniel Perry, 35, was convicted by a Travis County jury for fatally shooting 28-year-old Garrett Foster during a July protest in Austin. Perry has not yet been sentenced; he faces a minimum of five years or as much as life in prison.

Foster was exercising his “god given” right to walk around at a protest with a military style assault weapon. It wasn’t loaded and the safety was on. That didn’t stop Daniel Perry from pulling out his handgun and killing him. Witnesses to the event testified that Foster did not point the weapon and did not threaten Perry. The event was triggered by Perry driving into the crowd of peaceful protesters, including Foster who was exercising the rights given to him by Abbott.

Now Abbott has instructed the Board of Pardons and Paroles to immediately review the case and recommend a pardon for Perry based upon “stand your ground” laws even though the jury, who heard testimony showing there was no stand your ground issue, convicted the shooter. So what Abbott is saying if you see someone carrying an assault weapon and fear for your life, then you can just shoot him, claim stand your ground, and get a pardon.

This is good news. Who wouldn’t draw on someone carrying an assault weapon? What if they are kid killers? What if they are Khristian killers? Why should you take a chance? Abbott is telling us to shoot first, claim “stand your ground” later.

This is what Dennis Paul and Greg Abbott has brought to Texas. Because of these two individuals Foster lost his life and Perry lost his freedom. 19 children lost their lives in Uvalde. 8 kids lost their lives in Sante Fe. 26 Christians lost their lives in church. Now Abbott is telling us that you can shoot someone legally carrying an assault weapon, just in case.

What a fucked up human being. What a fucked up state.

League City to honor PTSD veterans with spectacular fireworks display

April 9, 2023

You have to get up pretty early in the morning to make stuff up like this.

League City Chamber of Commerce is going to honor our Vets, many who may have PTSD. According to the Mayo Clinic, a clinic not based upon the medical teachings of our lord Jesus Christ and the Bible:

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

What can be better than having a fireworks display to honor those with PTSD? How about having the event at a gun club? Well that is what they really intend to do. (not the fireworks) Maybe they will raffle off an AR15, the military weapon used in combat as well as the gun of choice to kill kids in school, churches, parades, dance clubs, and concerts.

Honoring our Veterans is honorable. That is a good event sponsored by the Chamber and they should be commended for it but for fucks sakes, at a gun club? Really? For many who have seen the horrors of war maybe highlighting the weapons used to create the horrors or war isn’t exactly the best venue.

I began this post as satire for Satire Sunday but it is just too disturbing to make fun of. Praise to the Chamber and to our Veterans but Jesus, please read the room next time.

What the f*ck is wrong with you? Tennessee

April 8, 2023

Six Christian human beings lost their lives due to easy access to guns and what does Tennessee republicans do? Nothing. Just like Texas. Nothing.

You just have to ask the question. What the fuck is wrong with you? Instead of addressing the fact that 3 young children and 3 adults were slaughtered because of easy access to guns, Tennessee republicans act like a bunch of Texas sized cowards (literally) and do nothing. Actually they did more than nothing. According to CNN:

Two Democratic members of the Tennessee House of Representatives were expelled while a third member was spared in an ousting by Republican lawmakers that was decried by the trio as oppressive, vindictive and racially motivated.

Protesters packed the state Capitol on Thursday to denounce the expulsions of Reps. Justin Jones and Rep. Justin Pearson and to advocate for gun reform measures a little over a week after a mass shooting devastated a Nashville school.

After the shooting Tennessee officials made it a point to note that law enforcement was quick to respond and kill the shooter unlike the cowards in Texas at the Uvalde shooting. Unfortunately the quick response was no match for someone with an assault weapon and 3 Christian children were killed along with 3 Christian adults. Tennessee must be proud.

So instead of making it harder for mentally ill people to have easy access to guns the Tennessee republicans expelled 2 Black members of the Tennessee then kissed the NRA’s ass. Again. This is just plain racist.

Six Christian human beings were slaughtered in a Christian school and all you can do is expel the two Black guys who are trying to stop it from happening again. It’s clear you are not Christians. You are not humans.

On this holiest of holy weekends, let’s ask Tennessee, Jesus, What the fuck is wrong with you?

Who the hell is Texas Majority PAC?

April 7, 2023

If you know my position about the mythical “democratic socialist” you will not like this article.

The Texas Majority PAC has sent invitations out to Democrats across Houston for a presentation on their accomplishments in Texas. Their invite says:

Our staff ran the 2022 Texas Democratic coordinated effort–the campaign that ran the statewide organizing program last year–and we’re meeting in Houston on 4/11 at 6:30 pm to discuss the election results, share the outcomes of our organizing, get your feedback, and discuss what comes next for Texas.

Considering we lost every State wide race in the midterms this ought to be an interesting evening. So who is Texas Majority PAC? Good question.

According to the Texas Ethics Commission they filed their first report in January 2023. They received only 1 donation of $100,000 in Dec of 2022, and spent $0. So it will be interesting to see how they can take credit for anything in Texas if they didn’t spend any money. The report states that they are raising money for the Democratic primary in March of 2024.

Their one donation was from Democracy PAC II. Democracy PAC II has one, just one donor, for $175 Million. (that is not a typo $175 MILLION) That one donor is Soros Fund Management, an investment firm founded by George Soros.

So Texas Majority PAC is an extreme far left organization with a Campaign Director that prides herself in building large-scale organizing around “defunding the police”. What the living fuck? Who in the fuck believes in “defunding the police?”. No Democrat I know besides the extreme far, far, left believes in that stupidity, and none of them live in Texas and has won running on that talking point. None.

This PAC, like the other “Democratic Socialist” groups, will be funding socialist candidates to run against our Democratic candidates. In the past they have a history of losing, losing 73 out of 80 races until they abandoned their “run everywhere” idea and targeted Democrats in deep, deep, blue areas like Austin, but that is even wavering. They have a record of losing but they cost real Democrats time and money in the primary. Once they lose in the primary they are gone, leaving our candidates to fend for themselves.

None of this is good. They are a lightning rod for bad press and divisive politics within the party. If you got this far you probably aren’t happy. I warned you.

Raising Campaign Cash: CCISD Elections

April 7, 2023

Campaign finance reports have been posted on the CCISD Elections website. The next reports are due 8 days out from the election on May 6. All candidates have filed their reports. Some notes:

  • As expected Peter Lauzon is being financed by an extreme right wing political action committee of the Republican Party. Of his $7278 in donations $5000 came from the PAC, $2000 is a personal loan, and $278 came from 2 individuals. You can read the details here.
  • Glencora Rodgers received a large donation from the same PAC. She returned it. (good for her) I have included her statement below. Glencora received a $7000 donation from her husband’s fence company and has a $2000 personal loan.
  • Arturo Sanchez as personal loan of $950.
  • Jamieson Mackay raised $3750 from small donors.
  • Partisan politics has no business in local school board elections. None. At. All.

Here are the totals for each candidate:

CandidateRaisedExpendituresCOHLoans
District 2
Jamieson Mackay3750105126980
Glencora Rodgers5200980734732000
District 3
Arturo Sanchez485540651883950
Peter Lauzon7278275751350

From Glencora Rodgers:

I mistakenly took money from an outside group early in my campaign. I returned it because I want the people of our community to know my only loyalty is to them only. I’m a mom and an educator; not a politician. My brief stint in this world has shown me I certainly don’t want to be one. I believe in talking to anyone & listening to everyone. I want people to know- I am a believer in public education and the important role local neighborhood schools play in strong communities. I spent my whole career working with at-risk youth & trying to give them hope first & then skills. I was born without my arm & understand the importance of teaching kids to look at someone’s inner self & gifts. I am an experienced educator with years & levels of experience. These things don’t always fit in a partisan box. There’s so much common ground as it relates to students/schools to add a non-needed partisan divide. I’m humbled by the support of individuals who are trying to get to know the candidates and choose the right person to help govern the district. I have met so many wonderful people who passionately care about our community. I pray every morning for God to give me strength to do His will. I am motivated by love & service. Thank you.

Extreme far right donations enter CCISD race for Peter Lauzon

April 6, 2023

Well we all knew it was coming. And it came.

Peter Lauzon the Unqualified For Office (UFO) candidate for trustee has accepted a large donation from the Defend Texas Liberty PAC an extreme fair right PAC that has been fielding candidates against moderate Republicans, including Greg Abbott (if you can call him moderate). From the Texas Tribune:

In the Texas House, the biggest intraparty attack on Republican leadership came from the Defend Texas Liberty PAC, led by former state Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford. Backed by hard-right donors like Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks, West Texas oil tycoons, the group spent at least $5.2 million from January onward.

Dunn and Wilks were featured in a CNN Investigation. They have contributed over $30 Million to promote gun for all and extreme far right candidates in the Republican primary. They have also contributed to extreme UFOs running for school board.

Lauzon raised a total of $7278 with $5000 from this PAC, $2000 from his own pocket, and $278 from 2 donors in the area.

I’ve said it in the past and I will say it again:

We do not need partisan politics to continue to infect our school board. CCISD is one of the best districts in the state. Our Trustees have challenges just to keep up with the constant pressure put on them concerning school funding and ridiculous mandates on our teachers, administrators, and students. They do not have time for Lauzon’s and Bowen’s political bullshit.

NOTE: Glencora Rodgers also received a donation from the Defend Texas Liberty PAC. She returned it.
