Texas Voters, all hat and no cattle

November 5, 2018
Sissy: You a real cowboy?
Bud: Well that depends on what you think a real cowboy is?
Texans talk a big game. They claim “we do things bigger in Texas”. It’s just a cute saying to make us look tough or bigger than we really are. Here is a newsflash, we aren’t. We don’t have bigger anything except for the most uninsured citizens or maybe the biggest mosquitos. Texas voters on the other hand can be the biggest voting idiots in the nation.
Texas voters want money out of politics but will vote for PACMAN, Ted Cruz, whose campaign is fueled by PAC money. They want our elected officials to tell the truth yet they will vote for Donald Trump who lies so many times on a daily basis the fact checkers cannot keep up. They want our politicians to be role models, someone their kids would aspire to be yet they vote for Donald Trump who cheats on his wife with porn stars. They want our politicians to stand up for their families in time of need yet will vote for Ted Cruz who couldn’t even stand up to Trump when he attacked his own father and wife. Instead he bowed and whimpered in his shadow.
Texas voters want politicians to not say racist things or tolerate those who condone it yet they will vote for republicans who have said racist comments and have said nothing about the president’s racist remarks. Harris County Judge Ed Emmett is a perfect example. He has hunkered down out of sight of trumps rabid followers, keeping to himself and quiet. They want politicians to stop inciting violence but will vote for Donald trump and his republican buddies who stay silent. They want politicians to treat women with respect yet will vote to Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller known for using the C word against women.
They want their families safe from gun violence yet will vote for nra endorsed candidates who advocate for guns on demand even though only 35% of Texans own guns. To them, talking about guns is just as tough as owning one, or wearing a cowboy hat.
The only thing bigger in Texas are the voter’s talk. They talk a big game just like John Travolta in Urban Cowboy.

Where's the County Judge? (Ed Emmett)

November 4, 2018

I just can’t believe Emmitt would ask this question in a mailer. In a previous post I have said No on Ed:

Emmett had the opportunity to restore his party to what it once was, a party that campaigned on “Family values” instead of family separation. A party that embraced facts and figures instead of deception, dishonesty and lies. A party that respected the rule of law instead of ignoring the law based upon who rules. He had the opportunity to stop his party from further moral erosion when their leader mocked a disabled American or a woman debate moderator. He had the opportunity to use his leadership to stop his party from unleashing angry, hateful attacks on Hispanics, Muslims, teachers, women, civil servants, the disabled, the gay community, and other constituents. Instead he sat quietly in the corner. This is a failure by Judge Emmett of moral leadership.

So Emmett has asked a good question. Where was Ed Emmett

Where was Emmett when his County Clerk, Stan Stanart, was posting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on his re-election website?

Where was Emmett when his County Clerk was not following the law at the polling locations?

Where was Emmett when his party went off on a racist tangent?

Where was Emmett when his party dismantled the Affordable Care Act leaving us to pay the County’s bills for those who cannot afford health care?

Where was Emmett when his president mocked a disabled American?

Where was Emmett when the leader of his party called for massive tariffs?

Where was Emmett when his party passed the right to walk around with an AR-15 in public agains the wishes of law enforcement?

Where was Emmett when his party wasted money on a bathroom bill targeting the transgender community?

I’ll tell you where Ed was. He was hunkered down in a dark corner waiting for the racist storm of his party to pass by before he sticks his head out and act like he cares. I cant give Ed a pass on this. I can’t give anyone with an (R) behind their name a pass. As far as I am concerned the (R) does not stand for Republican anymore.

The deafening Sounds of Silence: Republican "Leaders"

October 30, 2018

Disturb recorded a remake of Simon and Garfunkel’s 1960’s The Sounds of Silence. It is definitely worth a few minutes of your time if you have never heard it.

This is the new fight song for the Republican Party. Over the last 3+ years they have been silent. When their president makes racist statements, they are silent. When he incites violence towards the media, they are silent. When he personally attacks his political opponents they are silent.

When he lies, conspires with our enemies, condones the killing and dismembering of a Washington Post reporter, explodes the deficit to over $1 Trillion, suppresses the vote, endorses and distributes conspiracy theories, condones the slaughter with assault weapons, they are silent. They say nothing.

Pete Olson, Brian Babin, Dan Patrick, Ken Paxton, to name just a few, condone Trump’s behavior by not speaking out. They have the authority to write to the President and say “Knock it off!” but won’t. They simply endorse this attack on Americans and this horrible display of racism. They are cowards

At the very least Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Congressman John Culberson didn’t attend Trump’s hatefest in Houston for the crippling fear of his rabid racist base and losing their positions. They yelled silently. It is deafening.

And whispered in the sounds of silence

Poll worker ordered to remove NRA hat. #NoPlaceButTexas

October 30, 2018

It’s sad when you have to tell a human being not to wear an nra hat while working the polls less than 48 hours after 11 Americans were slaughtered by a gun nut. Besides the fact that it is illegal, it is obscene and disrespectful towards the families, friends, and other Americans. From Fox 26 Houston:

County Clerk Stan Stanart claims all of his poll workers and presiding judges must be neutral and cannot wear any type of clothing such as an NRA hat, yet he obviously forgot to tell his poll workers and presiding judges. He also wasn’t going to do anything about the complaint which was filed early in the morning until Fox 26 called for a statement.

What bothers me the most is that the presiding judge, a republican, knew he was going to wear this hat. She allowed it. She condoned it and she defended him when a complaint was filed. As a judge she has the authority to tell her workers to remove any obvious inappropriate clothing or to leave the area. She refused.

What kind of a Christian would think this was appropriate? What kind of human being would think this was appropriate? It makes your heart hurt for our country.

Republican election worker wears NRA hat at polls in Clear Lake

October 29, 2018

It really just pisses me off.

I may have said the g–damn word maybe 5 times in my entire life. Today was one of them. I walked up to vote in Clear Lake today to take advantage of the short line. The person giving out instructions on what was needed to vote was wearing an NRA hat. It might has well been a MAGAt hat.

I looked at him and simply said “Take that g–damn hat off!”. I then had a very long discussion with the presiding judge who has the authority to tell him to either leave or take off the hat. I had to remind her that 11 human beings were shot less than 48 hours ago. I had to remind her that a gun nut had taken the lives of 11 Jewish Americans with an AR-15. I told her she had the authority to tell him to leave or to take the hat off. She defended him until I told her I would file a complaint and bring the media. (if they would come)

She agreed to tell him to take it off….until she could talk to Stan Stanart, her boss. I bet this asshole of man will put it back on. She claimed it was illegal. I told her that farting in a crowded elevator was legal but it was extremely disrespectful.

What part of being an asshole do republicans not understand? BTW both are right wing republicans.

Nothing is too low for Clear Lake Republicans

September 22, 2018

It’s getting to be a pattern with the members of the republic party.

From the Houston Chronicle

First we had the Fort Bend Republic Party stooping to a new low as they reached out to Hindu-Americans in an ill conceived ad

The ad appeared to be an attempt to reach out to Hindus on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and urged Hindu American voters in the county to vote Republican by asking “Would you worship a donkey or an elephant? The choice is yours.”

The party has since apologized for it. Now we have the republicans in Clear Lake showing, once again, their true white colors with the backing of the tea baggers of the area attacking a parent of one of the Sante Fe shooting victims. Rhonda Hart attended a gathering with Ted Cruz and his white supporters after he unveiled the new Space Force uniforms at NASA designed by Ivanka Trump Inc. After confronting Cruz as a parent who lost their child to gun violence, the tea baggers shouted her down. From KTRK:

Rhonda Hart stormed the crowded room at Franca’s Italian Restaurant. She stood on a chair and shouted, “Don’t disrespect my daughter. My daughter died. My daughter died.”
Some in the crowd reacted harshly. Cruz, a Republican, calmed them down and offered his condolences.

“You still have not introduced common-sense reform,” Hart yelled.

Ms Hart is right. Besides thoughts and prayers and photo ops at the sites of the massacres, Cruz and the Republic Party hasn’t done a thing to prevent gun violence since the shooting in Santa Fe, or Sutherland, or Orlando, Las Vegas, or even Sandy Hook where 20 kindergarten kids were gunned down. They have done nothing. Absolutely nothing.

These so called “conservatives” in the Clear Lake republicans continued their harsh attacks towards a mother who lost her child in the comments sections of the Houston Chronicle:

A naive tool of the left, sorry for your loss and for your lack of how gun laws and the second amendment work. Find something useful to do with your life or move to Chicago and work on the guns laws there.

AM sorry her daughter died. But am more sorry for the death of freedoms.

So now she had her 5 minutes of fame to prove that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about and the chronicle tried to sensationalize it to promote the fake Mexican Beto!

Sorry Libs, the NRA and Ted have never shot anybody.

And those are just a few of the nasty comments left by the right. Like the republicans in Fort Bend, there is nothing too low for the republicans in Clear Lake. Nothing.

Unlike Fort Bend, don’t expect an apology from the Clear Lake republicans.

Isn't 16 years of Dan Patrick enough?

August 27, 2018

Texas Lt. Governor is too embarrassed to defend his record of achievements in Texas with his opponent Mike Collier, so he is going to debate Geraldo Rivera instead. From the Austin Statemen:

Democratic rival Mike Collier, who has been pressing to debate Patrick without success, was less than pleased, calling the Rivera challenge a stunt and dismissing Patrick as a “clown.”

From the San Antonio Express News

Clown is right. Patrick is the leader of the white wing of the republic party, the far white wing. He is lucky those in education, including teachers, parents, administrators, etc, still won’t take the time to vote and those who do vote the wrong way. That goes for those in law enforcement, public sector employees and Hispanics. His record of leadership is one that would make any white winger proud.

Under Patrick’s leadership teacher’s salaries have not kept up with the national average. Spending for our public schools has dropped to record lows. Texas now ranks (or reeks) #43 in the nation for public education. Health care costs for retired teachers have skyrocketed and retirement benefits have been cut. This is nothing to brag about or debate your opponent about.

Patrick ushered in open carry of loaded assault rifles in Texas against the wishes of the law enforcement community and just about everyone else. He had the power to stop this insanity but instead fully endorsed it as if walking around the streets with a loaded assault rifle makes our streets safer. (it doesn’t) When 5 policemen in Dallas were gunned down with an AK-47 type of weapon Patrick was silent. He was silent about his open carry bill when 26 were killed in Sutherland with a Ruger AR-556. He finally spoke up after 8 students were killed in Santa Fe by donating metal detectors for an ill conceived, limited protection, gimmick that did not address the issue of gun violence.

Patrick as a Senator and Lt Governor has created a tax haven for businesses in Texas passing the deficits on to the tax payers of Texas. Cuts to education and services followed, as planned.

Patrick has been the champion of the so-called “Bathroom bill”, another brain fart of an idea. Instead of addressing gun violence, or teachers salaries, or property taxes, Patrick has focused on the number one issue on the minds of Texans, which bathroom kids should use.

So with his record of cuts to our teachers, assault weapons on demand, property taxes out of control, and policing of bathrooms, just to name a few,  it is no wonder Dan Patrick would decline an opportunity to debate his opponent.

Watch Geraldo kick his ass.

Greg Abbott: Arm teachers and high school seniors

May 30, 2018

Nothing like treating the symptoms instead of addressing the cause.

After a couple of round table meetings Greg Abbott has come up with some ideas for protecting kids at school from gun violence.

“I believe the only way to stop gun violence in our schools is to arm all of our teachers and high school seniors. If they are old enough to vote, they are old enough to carry.”

If you have read my blog in the past you can probably guess, Abbott didn’t say exactly that, but please do not give him any ideas! Abbott is a white wing NRA gun nut and will do whatever will promote more guns in society no matter who gets killed, including our children and friends.

This entire “school safety” misses the point of the gun violence epidemic. Gun violence is not restricted to only one location. It’s in churches (Sutherland), Movie Theaters (Aurora), night clubs (Orlando), concerts (Las Vegas), restaurants (Luby’s), military bases (Ft Hood), baseball fields (Congressional baseball game), Universities (UT Austin, Virginia Tech), public streets( Dallas police shootings) and public schools (Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland, and now Santa Fe). His solutions will not stop the violence. From the Houston Chronicle:

Beefing up armed security, fortifying school entrances and enhancing mental health services are among the options Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to unveil Wednesday in his effort to make Texas schools safer amid a rash of mass shootings.

How will arming teachers protect everyone else from gun violence? And who is going to pay for metal detectors, mental health services, and armed guards? We can’t even pay our teachers fairly. If Abbott was serious about his wide eyed ignorant gun nut ideas he would be calling for arming teachers, altar boys, waitresses, umpires, professors, and high schools seniors. And even if you can put aside my snide comments and satire, how will arming teachers and installing metal detectors stop someone from driving up and shooting the high school band as they practice? Or the football team? How will that stop someone from ripping up a School bus filled with students?

Abbott and his gun nut buddies once again has used the deaths of 10 students and teachers as a way to distract from the real cause of gun violence. Guns.

Andrew White came and took it. From Greg Abbott

May 21, 2018

So much for the macho man Abbott. After the Sante Fe Shooting, Andrew White, candidate for Governor, tweeted a picture of Abbott’s raffle of a shotgun for his campaign.

Abbott has since canceled the raffle and will instead give a $250 gift card. From Politico:

“I find this giveaway deeply disturbing for a number of reasons, chiefly among them the fact that Friday’s shooting at Santa Fe HS was carried out with a shotgun,” Jack Kappelman, a student organizer of Austin’s March For Our Lives affiliate, wrote in an email to POLITICO.

So White came. And he took it.

It's time to treat your gun like your dick.

May 21, 2018
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out common sense gun ownership:

  1. Close the loop holes. Every gun purchase, every single one, must have a background check performed. If you want to buy your neighbors gun, go to a gun shop, pay for a background check, sell the gun. No exceptions. At all.
  2. Ban devices that can convert weapons into automatic weapons such as bump stocks. Ban the production, the sale, and the ownership of such devices. Anyone who currently has a device must turn it in or risk the severe consequences of owning one. Or…store them at a gun range.
  3. Ban large clips of ammunition. There is no reason to have large capacity clips. If you want a large capacity clip, store it at a gun range not at home or risk the severe consequences. Or….store them at a gun range.
  4. Ban the ownership of assault weapons. I’ve said this before. If you want to own an assault weapon, then store it at a gun range. If you want to shoot it, clean it, or fondle it, go to your gun range. Anyone who currently owns an assault weapon has to either have it shipped to a gun range for storage, or give it up. Anyone who retains their  assault weapon risks the severe consequences of owning one.
  5. Extreme vetting for gun ownership. Background checks must include mental health, family violence, and any other “events” as defined by the police.
  6. Repeal open carry. We live in a modern society. If you want to walk around like a tough guy with a gun strapped to your leg, move to Somalia. No one should be walking in the neighborhood with a loaded assault rifle. This is insanity.
  7. Treat your gun like your dick. Don’t brag about it. Don’t show it off. Don’t pull it out. Don’t wave it around. Don’t point it at anyone. Don’t walk around in public playing with it. And pull it out only when absolutely necessary to protect your life and family.
  8. Change our mindset about guns. Stop this stupidity of “We love our guns”. We love our kids more. We love our families and our friends more than guns. Guns should not be a lifestyle. We need to stop acting like guns are more important to us then our friends and family. If you want a gun for protection, buy one. If you want a gun for fun, store it at the range. We need to put our dicks away.
The vast majority of Americans do not own a firearm, and there are only a small amount of individuals who own assault weapons. Most Americans who own guns are doing so respectfully. Only a small sliver of Americans are gun nuts but these are the people republicans are bowing to. It is time those of us who want common sense reforms take control of this discussion.
There are more of us common sense gun owners than gun nuts. Hopefully we will show them on November 6.
