"A Lot of People Want Bernie Sanders to Run in 2020"

You just have to love the title of the article by The Atlantic, “A Lot of People Want Bernie Sanders to Run in 2020”. It’s made for an exciting morning on Facebook for some on both sides especially those who didn’t bother to read the article!

Unfortunately for the Bernie-Bros, the title isn’t exactly what they really wanted to hear. From The Atlantic:

Most Republicans would see a Sanders candidacy as a gift, letting them paint the entire Democratic Party in socialism. The idea that he might emerge as the candidate against Trump is too much of a dream for them to even admit. Many Democrats agree.

According to the Harris County Republican Party “The thought of Bernie winning the nomination makes our toes curl!” Ok. They didn’t say that but I bet they were thinking it. The numbers against a socialist running for President are just awful. 76% of Americans do not want anything to do with a socialist. 76% is a pretty bad number. There should be no wonder why republicans are drooling about another Sanders run for President.

But Sanders has a couple of problems facing his return. 1) Democrats are not very happy with what he gave us, Trump. and 2) Once Beto O’Rourke decides to run Sanders will lose his followers. When you have a choice of a real Democrat that does not have “socialist” stamped on his head, and is 40 years younger than Sanders the real Democrat will win every time.

On the other hand, many of the candidates Sanders campaigned for lost, and many of the bigger calculations that would be part of a 2020 run are setting in.

Many? His groups, Brand New Congress won only 1 race out of 31 and Justice Democrats only won 7 races out of 50 or more all of them were either unopposed or in deep blue areas. They can’t compete in many primaries across the country even though many can raise substantial amounts of money.

So….Let’s move on. We have real, qualified, Democrats running fo the office. Let’s stick to them.

Movie Review: The Mule

Wait for it on DVD or Blu-Ray.

 What a disappointment. Watch the trailer below. It has more excitement than the actual movie. Eastwood did his best to play a gross, horny, mumbling, old man. He did this pretty well. It was a slow, drawn out story with little if any unpredictable plots. Little excitement, little drama, ending in a “Is that it?” ending. 

 At the end of the movie many were still in their seats hopefully waiting for after credits or something that said “Clint Eastwood spent the last days of his lonely life in prison. He grew flowers.” or something like that. The entire movie needed closure. The lady sitting next to me said what I was thinking “Is that it?’ Others left the theatre saying the same thing. This was truly a wasted effort by Eastwood. He should consider retiring.

 The Mule is The Dud even at the discount price of $5.00 Tuesday rate. Grab a hand full of popcorn and a shot glass of Coke and watch the trailer:

Trump turns on the NRA. Bans the ownership of bump stocks

After 58 Americans were gunned down with an assault weapon equipped with a bump stock in Las Vegas with hundreds more injured Trump will be signing an executive order banning the sale and ownership of the device on Friday. From NBC News:

“We are faithfully following President Trump’s leadership by making clear that bump stocks, which turn semiautomatics into machine guns, are illegal, and we will continue to take illegal guns off of our streets,” Whitaker said. 

Later, at a school safety event at the White House, he called it a “big victory” for Trump’s administration.

Better late than never. It only took trump a year to realize bump stocks should be off the market. He could have had a “big victory” by signing this order a year ago.

As of Friday bump stocks will no longer be sold in America and those who own the device will have 90 days to turn it in. Watch for the NRA to file a lawsuit. Next up: high capacity clips and assault weapons.

Texas Sen. Charles Schwertner: That's not my dick. Pic

The University of Texas has completed a review of the facts concerning Texas Senator Charles Schwertner sending sexually explicit texts to a student including a dick pic. From the Dallas Morning News:

AUSTIN — The University of Texas completed its investigation on Tuesday into whether State Sen. Charles Schwertner sent sexually explicit messages — including photos of his genitals — to a student, issuing a report that neither fully incriminates nor clears the Georgetown Republican of wrongdoing.


According to Schwertner he shared a device with an anonymous individual and provided this person with the password to his Hushed account that allows for encrypted texts. That individual, not Schwertner, sent the messages. If a dick pic was sent this would be a fairly easy investigation. Line up Schwertner and his anonymous buddy and have them drop their linens.

Unfortunately Schwertner has been uncooperative, will not disclose the individual, and will probably refuse to drop his linens. His wife has declined cooperation also.

The university reported it could not prove Schwertner sent the offensive messages, and a forensic investigation found that they did not come from his phone. However, the messages did come from Schwertner’s Hushed account, a privacy app that allows people to send messages from separate phone numbers, and his LinkedIn account.
The UT investigation also described Schwertner as uncooperative and unwilling to be interviewed or answer questions about whether he had other electronic devices where the messages could have originated.


The Lt Governor, Dan Patrick, was relieved. “I am glad we can put this issue behind us. I urge all Senators to not send dick pics to young, beautiful students in the future via their official Hushed accounts.”
He didn’t really say that but he was thinking it! Watch for a civil suit to follow.

Who shouldn't run for the Democratic Party nomination for President

It’s always good to have a competition between a number of good, qualified, Democratic candidates for President, but let’s be honest about who shouldn’t run. We have some excellent candidates with the necessary qualifications to lead the nation that we should focus on. We do not need the second tier candidates to muddle up the primary. For starters:

Bernie Sanders. He will never receive the nomination. Ever. Democrats say “If he is the nominee, I will vote for him.” but that isn’t enough votes. The nominee requires votes from the middle to win in the general. They are the ones that will swing the election. Sanders can’t and has never had to reach out to them over the last 35 years he has been in office. The middle will never support a socialist like Bernie. Besides the fact he can’t win, he still isn’t a Democrat and once a real Democrat like Beto O’Rouke runs, his supporters will be gone.

Elizabeth Warren. Senator Warren has a great reputation for tackling Wall Street, providing some much needed consumer protection for Americans. She should keep doing that. I believe the DNA test she performed is her email issue. She will never get over that. Could she be President? Sure but once again she needs the middle not just the far left.

Richard Ojeda. From CNBC: “The latest politician to join the list of President Donald Trump’s potential challengers is Richard Ojeda, who lost the race to represent West Virginia’s 3rd Congressional District on Tuesday night. He also voted for Trump in 2016″. Enough said. Ojeda is a loose cannon. Let’s thank him for his military service then move on.

Michael Avenatti. The politically ignorant loudmouth has no business running for this office. We already have one in the White House we don’t need another. He is nothing but a shiny penny with his tough talk but not worth a cent as a political candidate.

Oprah Winfrey. Another politically ignorant individual who could use her talent to help drive out the vote for our candidate. Being popular is not enough. This isn’t a damn game. 

Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. Not a chance. Despite having a great resume Gabbard has some extreme positions on civil rights enough to completely disqualify herself from running in the Democratic Party. She is a non starter. Also, she is a Bernie Bro.

Who is Tony Buzbee?

You might have heard about Tony Buzbee possibly running for Mayor of Houston. You might also have heard he has offered to mediate between the Houston Fire Fighters and the City of Houston concerning the recent equal pay proposition that passed. This seems to be a major conflict of interest since he is considering a run for Mayor. So who is Tony Buzbee?

Buzbee is a politically ignorant, wealthy, “tell it like it is”, not a politician, lawyer who intends to self finance a run for Mayor of Houston, a political office. Sound familiar? It should. Buzbee is the Donald Trump of Houston. According to the right wing Empower Texas PAC via the righter wing Texas Scorecard:

According to Buzbee, his candidacy is different because he is not a politician and can entirely self-fund his campaign. 

If he doesn’t sound like Donald Trump no one will. There is a lot about Buzbee voters in Houston should be aware of, for instance, he held a yuge fundraiser for Donald Trump. He has donated over $1M including $308,000 to Gregg Abbott, $80,000 to Rick Perry, $35,000 to Trump Victory PAC, and $30,000 to the RNC. He has represented Rick Perry in his felony charge of abuse of power. After Bob Perry passed I believed Buzbee would fill the role of the sugar daddy of the Texas Republican Party. That may still happen.

Buzbee is an Aggie and a veteran serving tours in the Persian Gulf and Somalia. Prior to becoming wealthy, Buzbee was a Democrat. He was the chair of the Galveston County Democratic Party and ran as a Democrat for State Representative against Larry Taylor, and lost. He has sprinkled his money across both parties, including judicial candidates, possibly to gain favor from both for his non partisan run for Mayor. That usually doesn’t work.

We have seen what a politically ignorant, wealthy, straight talking, non politician, has done to our Country. We surely do not need another one in the City of Houston.

Texas Secretary of State, Rolando Pablo, has resigned

Well this is strange.

After just 2 years in office, Rolando Pablo has resigned. From his resignation letter to Governor Abbott:

With the midterm elections successfully behind us, and the 86th legislative session around the comer, I believe this would be a good time to begin the process of transitioning out of my position and passing the baton to the next secretary of state. Serving Texans as Secretary of State has been an oppo1tunity of a lifetime, but I feel the need at this time to turn my attention to my private practice. 

So, it is with great affection and gratitude that I respectfully submit to you my resignation of the office of Texas Secretary of State, effective December 15, 2018.

Pablo is/was the Secretary of State. It’s pretty strange that he would quit after just 2 years but as his resignation letter said this is a good time to leave especially after the ass kicking his party received in 2016.

Is Social Security going broke? No.

AARP magazine wrote a great article on “Social Security The Real Facts”. If you have a moment read the article so you can talk intelligently about it especially before you say something ignorant like “SS is going broke” or “SS will not be around when I am old”. Some of the interesting points:
Social Security is not going bankrupt. It has a $2.89 Trillion reserve. If no adjustments are made this reserve will be depleted in 2034. SS will be able to pay benefits but at a reduced level of 79%.

Congress can easily fix this. 95% of American workers pay into Social Security every paycheck. 5% of American workers pay into Social Security till they reach the cap of $133,000. Then they stop contributing. If Congress would move this cap to $250,000 the fund could pay full benefits for another 50 years. This change would affect just 5% of American workers.

Fun facts. Social Security Administration has a budget of $12.5 Billion. 63,000 Federal employees. 16,000 state employees. 1245 field offices.

You can start collecting at 62. You can start collecting social security benefits at 62 but at a reduced rate. Do the math and see if this is right for you.

Social Security should not be your sole source of income at retirement. Couple this with a pension and savings and you will do just fine. Unfortunately most Americans do not have a pension so savings at a very early age into a retirement fund is a must.

Movie Review: Instant Family

Go see it! Now!

Mark Wohlberg has had some ups and downs of movies including the remake of the Planet of the Apes, Mile 22, Fighter, and Lone Survivor. Mile 22 was his latest flop. It really sucked. Instant Family, on the other hand, ranks with one of the good ones.

If you don’t like tearing up in the theatre wait for Ted III because Instant Family is a good story, based upon real life, and will pull on your heartstrings. Wohlberg in Instant Family is able to bridge the gap between funny and serious and he does it well. Isabela Moner as the oldest of 3 foster kids is lovable at first sight and has a great performance. Wohlberg’s wife, played by Rose Byrne, also provides comedy and tear jerking moments.

It is a great movie. One of the better ones of the year. Go see it.
