Where's the County Judge? (Ed Emmett)

November 4, 2018

I just can’t believe Emmitt would ask this question in a mailer. In a previous post I have said No on Ed:

Emmett had the opportunity to restore his party to what it once was, a party that campaigned on “Family values” instead of family separation. A party that embraced facts and figures instead of deception, dishonesty and lies. A party that respected the rule of law instead of ignoring the law based upon who rules. He had the opportunity to stop his party from further moral erosion when their leader mocked a disabled American or a woman debate moderator. He had the opportunity to use his leadership to stop his party from unleashing angry, hateful attacks on Hispanics, Muslims, teachers, women, civil servants, the disabled, the gay community, and other constituents. Instead he sat quietly in the corner. This is a failure by Judge Emmett of moral leadership.

So Emmett has asked a good question. Where was Ed Emmett

Where was Emmett when his County Clerk, Stan Stanart, was posting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on his re-election website?

Where was Emmett when his County Clerk was not following the law at the polling locations?

Where was Emmett when his party went off on a racist tangent?

Where was Emmett when his party dismantled the Affordable Care Act leaving us to pay the County’s bills for those who cannot afford health care?

Where was Emmett when his president mocked a disabled American?

Where was Emmett when the leader of his party called for massive tariffs?

Where was Emmett when his party passed the right to walk around with an AR-15 in public agains the wishes of law enforcement?

Where was Emmett when his party wasted money on a bathroom bill targeting the transgender community?

I’ll tell you where Ed was. He was hunkered down in a dark corner waiting for the racist storm of his party to pass by before he sticks his head out and act like he cares. I cant give Ed a pass on this. I can’t give anyone with an (R) behind their name a pass. As far as I am concerned the (R) does not stand for Republican anymore.

Republican teachers should be fired

November 3, 2018
What idiot thought this was a good idea? Thank God for Idaho!

From the NBC News:

The employees of Heights Elementary School dressed as a wall in cardboard in a group of costumes made to look like bricks. The slogan “Make America Great Again” was written in red, white and blue letters across their chests.

A handful of other school staff dressed in sombreros, serapes (a long blanket-like shawl) and wore fake mustaches and carried maracas. In one of the pictures, a woman appears to have written “Mexican” in capital letters across the brim of her sombrero.

Seriously, what idiot thought this would be a fun idea for elementary school kids? Besides the fact it is racist, they are public school teachers campaigning for their president on school property during school hours. Even if they did this off campus and in their private lives it would be considered a pretty stupid idea especially after posting pictures on social media, which they did.

They posted the pictures on the school districts facebook page, which, by the way, has been deleted. Not the pictures, the entire facebook site. Maybe its because they received over 2000 comment and the pictures went viral.

As I have said in a previous post (just yesterday):

This behavior has become a habit for republicans. Why do we have to tell republican elected officials not to be racist, not to mock the disabled, not to send dick pics, not to call a woman the C word, not to use the N word, and not to post anti-Semitic material on their re-election website?

Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart removes anti-Semitic website

November 2, 2018

Why do we have to tell elected officials to not be anti-Semitic?

According to the Houston Chronicle:

After the Houston Chronicle posted an article Tuesday in which observers described the Soros attack as a “dog whistle” to anti-Semites, references to Soros disappeared from the site.

Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart was  the subject of a previous post “Why do you have to be a dick about everything?” because of his dog whistle re-election website. This is the second time Stanart has had to be called out. Earlier this week Stanart wasn’t going to enforce the law at an early voting location in Clear Lake by demanding a poll worker to remove his nra hat….until Fox 26 called him out on it. He quickly threw his workers under the bus and required him to either remove the hat or leave.

This behavior has become a habit for republicans. Why do we have to tell republican elected officials not to be racist, not to mock the disabled, not to send dick pics, not to call a woman the C word, not to use the N word, and not to post anti-Semitic material on their re-election website?

It’s as if they don’t want to be an elected official anymore. We can help them on November 6.

TX Senator Ted Cruz "You can be Hispanic and a racist too!"

November 1, 2018

Leave it to Ted Cruz to voluntarily step in a political pile of poo.  From Bloomberg:

Representative Steve King of Iowa, who has been abandoned by Republican leaders and donors over his embrace of white nationalists and for rhetoric that has been denounced as racist, said he got a supportive phone call from Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, who’s facing a tough re-election battle of his own.

Steve King has been well known for making racist comments even on the House floor. Cruz called his latest event of embracing white nationalists as “disappointing” and “Divisive”. According to Cruz:

“I find Congressman Steve King’s comments disappointing and divisive, but I am looking towards 2020 and King can help me win in Iowa.”

Actually he didn’t say that but its as if he did. Earlier in the week, Cruz a Canadian-Cuban-American was in south Texas claiming he was more Hispanic than his challenger Beto O’Rouke, which would not be hard to say since Beto is not Hispanic. He is Irish-American and has never claimed otherwise. His name “Beto” was a nickname given to him as a child like many of his friends and kids named Roberto or Gilberto.

Cruz claiming he is Hispanic, when he hasn’t before, is strange timing considering Beto is giving him a run for his money. Also Hispanics have problems with Cruz. We stand up to bullies especially those who insult our family members like our wives. We don’t roll over and forgive very easily. We are very loyal to our families and friends. We don’t make fun of the disabled. We defend those who need help. We believe in true conservative spending. And we do not condone those who make racist statements.

Maybe Cruz ought to stick with being Canadian. If they let him.

Raising Campaign Cash. 8 days out: Konni Burton

November 1, 2018

I’ve written before about Texas Senator Konni Burton:

So Konni Burton raises 89% of her million dollars from 4 PACs including one that advocates for “Fiscal Responsibility”. Yeah right. Its like taking money from a condom manufacturer for abstinence only policies. There is nothing fiscally responsible about funding your campaign with PAC money.

In her 8 day report Burton claims to have raised $503,328 but 80% comes from just 9 PACs and individuals. Texans for Lawsuit Reform donated $60,000, Dan Patrick $113,000, $116,000 from Greg Abbott and $10,000 from Texans for Fiscal Responsibility PAC. $485,000 came from donations of $1000 or more.

Only $15,000 of her $503,000 came from citizen donations.

Raising Campaign Cash: Sid Miller

October 31, 2018

This is sad.

The clown of the Republican Party, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has reported only $13,500 for his re-election campaign according to his last financial report. The $13,500 from just 4 individuals and 1 PAC. The Koch PAC gave him $5000 and a cattle ranch gave him another $2500. Three others gave him $1000, $2500, and $2500. Miller still has a $159,000 loan he is responsible for.

His opponent, Kim Olson has raised $68,000 from 755 individuals without accepting PAC money.

Miller hasn’t received any major endorsements. Even the Texas Farm Bureau has refused to endorse him.

Loaning Campaign Cash. Again. David Mayes Middleton

October 31, 2018

David Mayes Middleton running for State Representative in Galveston continues to raise money, from his own pocket. As I have said before:

According to his latest report Middleton has raised over $1.7 Million with $1.5 coming from his own pocket, 87% of his entire fundraising efforts. He paid $1.7Million to win in the Republican primary.

In his latest report Middleton claims he raised $86,000 but $52,500 came from his own pocket or maybe from a family member also named David Middleton.  The majority of his contributions come from various PACs. When all is said and done, Middleton is on course to spend over $2 million of his own money to win a State Representative seat in Austin.

His spending is off the charts. It’s as if he is running in a highly competitive district. Even if he was in a competitive district spending $2.5 million is about 5 times more than what a competitive race should cost. Maybe he thinks all of his donations to himself are tax deductible. Or he is just laundering money. (kidding) Or he thinks it is charity to his buddies who perform consulting work.

Whatever it is, it is strange. And wrong. And legal. As I said to a reporter who asked “But..isn’t this still legal?”, a married elected official running on family values can legally go to Las Vegas and have sex with a hooker.

But it still isn’t right.

TX Congressman Pete Olson's health

October 31, 2018

I have written about Pete Olson’s pre-existing condition that will be covered regardless of the outcome of the lawsuit that could end coverage for everyone else but after watching the video below I am wondering if Olson is all there. Watch the first part then move to 8:10 to watch how he reacts to one of the few attendees of his meet and greet. She questioned his use of “Info-American” in reference to his opponent and to his reference to the chant “CNN Sucks”. He looked rattled.

Olson was my Congressman back in 2008. During his few years representing NASA, before he moved to Sugarland to take advantage of the gerrymandering, Olson was instrumental in losing a United States Space Shuttle to New York as well as losing major integration facilities to other states.

Olson has put on weight. He has strange mannerisms. He looks like he is just going through the motions. His speech seems to be slow. His eyes sunken. Maybe the fact that a relatively unknown, exciting, opponent who is incredibly qualified for the job, has never ending energy, has been endorsed by the Houston Chronicle, and has worked district has gotten under his skin.

Win or lose I hope Olson will take a few weeks off and pay attention to his health because he looks like a pile of hammered dog poo.

The deafening Sounds of Silence: Republican "Leaders"

October 30, 2018

Disturb recorded a remake of Simon and Garfunkel’s 1960’s The Sounds of Silence. It is definitely worth a few minutes of your time if you have never heard it.

This is the new fight song for the Republican Party. Over the last 3+ years they have been silent. When their president makes racist statements, they are silent. When he incites violence towards the media, they are silent. When he personally attacks his political opponents they are silent.

When he lies, conspires with our enemies, condones the killing and dismembering of a Washington Post reporter, explodes the deficit to over $1 Trillion, suppresses the vote, endorses and distributes conspiracy theories, condones the slaughter with assault weapons, they are silent. They say nothing.

Pete Olson, Brian Babin, Dan Patrick, Ken Paxton, to name just a few, condone Trump’s behavior by not speaking out. They have the authority to write to the President and say “Knock it off!” but won’t. They simply endorse this attack on Americans and this horrible display of racism. They are cowards

At the very least Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Congressman John Culberson didn’t attend Trump’s hatefest in Houston for the crippling fear of his rabid racist base and losing their positions. They yelled silently. It is deafening.

And whispered in the sounds of silence

Poll worker ordered to remove NRA hat. #NoPlaceButTexas

October 30, 2018

It’s sad when you have to tell a human being not to wear an nra hat while working the polls less than 48 hours after 11 Americans were slaughtered by a gun nut. Besides the fact that it is illegal, it is obscene and disrespectful towards the families, friends, and other Americans. From Fox 26 Houston:

County Clerk Stan Stanart claims all of his poll workers and presiding judges must be neutral and cannot wear any type of clothing such as an NRA hat, yet he obviously forgot to tell his poll workers and presiding judges. He also wasn’t going to do anything about the complaint which was filed early in the morning until Fox 26 called for a statement.

What bothers me the most is that the presiding judge, a republican, knew he was going to wear this hat. She allowed it. She condoned it and she defended him when a complaint was filed. As a judge she has the authority to tell her workers to remove any obvious inappropriate clothing or to leave the area. She refused.

What kind of a Christian would think this was appropriate? What kind of human being would think this was appropriate? It makes your heart hurt for our country.
