New NASA Space Suits May Delay Moon Landing

Interesting report from the NASA Office of the Inspector General.

The NASA OIG release a report on 4/20 titled “NASA’s Acquisition of Next-Generation Spacesuit Services“. It is a detailed, and at times quite boring, report but the main point of the report is that based on past experience of developing and testing the space suits the Moon landing will be delayed into 2031. Here is their summary:

NASA faces challenges in ensuring next-generation spacesuits are available to meet the Agency’s current schedules for the Artemis lunar landing mission in 2028 and prior to the ISS’s decommissioning in 2030. NASA’s original schedules to demonstrate the lunar and microgravity spacesuits in 2025 and 2026, respectively, were overly optimistic and ultimately proved unachievable, as evidenced by delays of at least a year and a half for both spacesuits. Based on our analysis, if Axiom experiences design and testing delays in line with the historical average for recent space flight programs, the Artemis and ISS demonstrations may not occur until 2031.

Of course The new NASA chief had a response which is basically we are still landing in 2028 while Trump is in office and he can take credit for it. That’s not exactly what he said but you get the idea. Ever since Trump was reelected he has targeted NASA for massive cuts. First it was to cut the Artemis program and give it to Elon Musk. That fell apart when Trump and Elon started a fight over the failure of DOGE. Now he is calling for a 24% cut to NASA to focus on landing on the Moon while he is still in office.

I have full faith in those who are working on the new suits. I have no faith in who is running the agency or those who refuse to tell their leader in space when it is safe to go to the moon. More later. From the new NASA Chief:

We are reviewing where NASA can do better, how we can provide relief where appropriate to burdensome requirements, where we can expand capabilities over time (Apollo 11’s EVA profile was very different than Apollo 17), and where we can help industry by inserting NASA SMEs and driving the intended outcomes. I am confident that when NASA is ready to land on the Moon in 2028, our astronauts will be wearing Axiom suits.

Raising Campaign Cash From Anonymous Donors. Abel Garza, Texas City Candidate for Mayor

It’s not legal. At all.

Abel Garza is running for Mayor of Texas City. He raised $14,750 as reported on his 30 day out report. He has a couple of interesting donations including $5000 from the Houston Builders Association and $2350 from an anonymous donor which is illegal. According to the Texas Ethics Commission every donation must be identified with the name, date of donations, address, and amount. There are just a few exceptions but according to his report it looks like someone with a bag over their head handed him $2350 in cash.

I have read many reports over the last 20 years but I have never seen an anonymous donor before.

Texas Republican Congressman Calls Trump “The Second Coming”

No place but Sugar Land Texas.

Retiring Congressman Troy Nehls from the Sugar Land area, a diverse, well educated area claimed Trump is the second coming of Jesus Christ. The last time I remember someone saying his band was more popular than Jesus resulted in the mass burning of their albums.

In March 1966, John Lennon stated that The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus” in a London Evening Standard interview, claiming Christianity was declining while rock music was growing. While ignored in the UK, the quote caused massive backlash in the US later that year, resulting in record burnings, radio bans, and Ku Klux Klan protests. 

Nehls comment, like John Lennon, was met with the same outrage. Even his twin brother, Trever, (yes, “Trever”) who is running for his brother’s position, has distanced himself from Troy stating “I barely know who he is.” He later added “I can’t believe Troy would have taken the time to take his lips off of Trump’s ass to make a stupid statement like that.”

This isn’t the first time Nehls has been in the news. Not only has he been accused of kissing ass, he was accused of stolen valor wearing medals he did not earn. He was accused of profiling Hispanics while acting like a Sheriff. He was also involved in an accident requiring the jaws of life to free his rotten ass.

Good riddance you rotten bastard.

Harris County and Why It’s Important to You

Harris County and the elected officials provide services to about 5 million people.

Harris County is the 3rd largest county in the United States covering nearly 2 million square miles running from the Kingwood area to the Clear Lake area, from Katy to Baytown. Needless to say it’s a big area. The County is divided into 4 precincts represented by Commissioners Rodney Ellis (1), Adrian Garcia (2) Tom Ramsey (3), and Leslie Briones (4). The Bay Area is within Precinct 2. There are 27 elected officials, not including Judicial positions. Of those 27 there are 1 Judge (not a judicial judge) 4 Commissioners, 7 Trustees for the Harris County Department of Education, and 8 Constables. All these are elected positions.

Important positions include:

  • County Judge Lina Hidalgo acts as the chief executive officer for the county, presiding over the Commissioners Court to manage the county budget, tax rates, and infrastructure.
  • County Attorney Abbie Kamin is the chief legal officer for a county, responsible for representing the state in misdemeanor criminal cases, prosecuting juvenile offenders, and acting as the legal advisor to county and precinct officials.
  • District Attorney Sean Teare is an elected prosecutor representing the state in criminal cases, responsible for reviewing police investigations, filing felony and misdemeanor charges, and prosecuting cases at trial.
  • District Clerk Marilyn Burgess is an elected official who acts as the custodian of records for district courts, managing court documents (civil, criminal, family), processing lawsuits, collecting fines/fees, and managing jury selection. 
  • County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth serves as the principal record-keeper, election official, and clerk to the county governing board, managing public records like deeds and marriage licenses, administering elections, and handling official licensing.
  • Tax Assessor Collector Annette Ramirez is an elected official responsible for assessing property values, calculating, and collecting property taxes for local governments, schools, and counties.
  • Treasurer Carla L. Wyatt as the chief custodian of county finances, responsible for receiving, depositing, and safeguarding all county funds
  • Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is an elected official acting as the chief law enforcement officer for their county, responsible for operating the county jail, providing security for courts, and serving legal papers.
  • County Commissioners act as the executive and legislative branch of county government, managing county property, finances, and services. They adopt the annual budget, set property tax rates, approve contracts, and maintain county infrastructure like roads, bridges, and jails.
  • County Constables is an elected, licensed peace officer who serves as the chief process server for justice courts and performs law enforcement duties. They execute warrants, civil papers (subpoenas, evictions), act as bailiffs for Justice of the Peace courts, and conduct patrols or criminal investigations.
  • Department of Education Trustee is an elected official who sets policies, approves budgets, and provides oversight for the department to support local school districts with educational services. They govern initiatives like Head Start, special schools, and adult education, acting as public stewards for Harris County schools.

These are important positions. So come November go vote.

Bay Area’s Texas Senate District and Why It’s Important to You

Like Texas House District 129, it’s about local politics, your wallet, and your voting history.

Texas is divided into 31 Senate districts. Senate district 11 or SD11 covers parts of three counties, Galveston, Harris, and Brazoria. (See the map below) It covers south of Beltway 8 to the coast and from Angleton to Seabrook. (generally).

As with House District 129 the district has been represented by a Republican for 43 years. The last Democrat Was Senator Chet Brooks who served from 1983-1993. 43 years under republican rule and look at us now. Home insurance out the roof. The cost of Health insurance makes you sick. Auto insurance has crashed. The cost of electricity is shocking. Our schools are being starved with funding cuts and vouchers. The cost of living in the Bay Area has skyrocketed. And yet voters don’t want to change their voting habits.

The current Senator, “Money” Mayes Middleton is now running for Texas Attorney General leaving the seat open. State Representative Dennis Paul who has served for over 10 years is now running for the Senate seat. If you don’t know who Middleton or Paul is that is because they have never held a town hall meeting with their constituents. They only meet with the business community. Both are voucher supporters. Both believe in teaching their religion in schools. Both served on committees that should have addressed the insurance crisis. Both have ignored the rising cost of living in the district.

Democrats have had only one challenger back in 2008 as far as I remember. This year Shannon Dicely is challenging Paul. You can find information about her at https://www.shannondicely.com.

Houston Police. Back the Blue but not the U-nion.

Houston Police Officers Union. To Protect and Serve Themselves.

Once again the HPOU President got his ass handed to him in front of City Council by Council Member Carolyn Evans-Shabazz concerning the ICE ordinance passed last week. You can watch that video below starting at 2:01:26. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

This isn’t the first time HPOU has crossed the blue line. Just last month they posted a cartoon concerning Judge Lina Hidalgo and her dust up at the rodeo. It was childish and beneath the dignity of the office. Also, a couple of years ago the former President of HPOU soiled himself on television concerning a botched police raid which resulted in 2 homeowners dead, 4 police shot, and 6 police officers charged with felonies. He incorrectly, without any evidence what so ever, blamed the injuries on Black Lives Matter and threaten them with illegal surveillance. He later resigned, the police officer in charge of the raid was charged and convicted of murder and other cases he oversaw were reviewed for possible dismissal. You can watch his tirade here.

One thing is for certain, HPOU is for HPOU only. They are the MAGA arm of the police. Everyone supports our police. We grieve when one is hurt or killed in action. But HPOU does not deserve that support or that respect. Our police force is great but their Union is out of touch and out of control.

The HPOU President needs to shut the fuck up and get off his g**damn computer.

Houston District C Race. Voting Records Don’t Seem to Matter

This is out of my district but the race highlights a very disturbing trend.

The Houston Chronicle wrote an article titled “Houston’s District C candidates clash over voting records” questioning the record of candidate Joe Panzarella. If it mattered to voters, his record of voting is questionable. He voted in the Republican primary in 2016 and in the Democratic Party in 2018 and 2024. His voting in the general election started in 2020. His opponent, Nick Hellyar, has a strong record of voting in every Democratic primary, general election, and the runoffs since 2008. The difference is night and day. The Chronicle said:

“Hellyar produced records showing Panzarella voted in the 2016 Republican primary despite saying at a March 18 candidate forum that he had voted in the Democratic primary in 2024 and “every Democratic primary before that.”

Hellyar’s participation in the Democratic Party is also very strong. He has served as a precinct chair. He has volunteered for a number of political campaigns, which as all volunteers know, is very difficult work. He has participated in County and State conventions. Besides have a strong record of voting in the Democratic Party, participating in the party, and having campaign experience, Nick has excellent, applicable, experience in City Council. He has served several elected officials to manage constituent services in their offices. He didn’t wake up one day and decided to run for City Council. He knows City Council. His experience in the office prepared him to run. He also has endorsements from many organizations and individuals representing a broad coalition in this non-partisan race.

Unfortunately the trend in local politics has changed and not for the better. Somehow voting in Democratic Primaries is not a requirement to run in the Democratic Party or even to run the Party. Last month a new comer to the party with no record of voting in the primary, and little if any participation in the Party, was voted in as Chair of the Party. Go figure.

Also having experience for the position you are running for doesn’t seem to matter either. A recent college grad, with little if any voting record, and no applicable experience is running for Harris County District Clerk to manage 500 employees and the court records of the 3rd largest county in the country. His opponent has a wealth of applicable experience. As an example of what could go wrong, Hays County voted for a young inexperienced candidate for District Clerk. He resigned two years later and left the office in shambles. Again the difference in the two candidates is night and day and yet prominent organizations and officials are backing the inexperienced newbie. Again, go figure.

City Council is a non partisan position but many know which Party the candidates associate with and what experience they bring to the table. If experience and party affiliation matters to voters in District C then the choice is very clear.

I can only wish that District E was competitive and an experienced Democratic candidate actually had a chance of winning.

JFC! Local Republicans Comment About Trump’s Jesus Pic

The sound of silence is deafening.

Local Republican elected officials and candidates are silent about Trump’s recent AI generated pic of Jesus healing Jeffery Epstein. You would think at least one of them, who claim to be devout Christians, would be condemning his actions and distancing themselves from him as if he had taken a dump in his pants at a crowded party. But that didn’t/hasn’t happened.

Senator Money MAGAt Mayes Middleton is still proud to be endorsed by his Jesus figure. Candidate running for Harris County Commissioner, and a pastor of some kind of right wing church, Richard Vega, has nothing to preach about his buddy Trump Jesus. State Representative Dennis Paul, who attends St Paul’s Catholic Church, also has nothing to say about Trump Jesus and Scott Bowen, a devout Christian when it is convenient, is also silent about his lord and savior, both of them.

G**damn folks. He is protraying himself as Jesus Christ healing the sick f*** Jeffery Epstein. Don’t you christians even read the damn bible? Here is an appropriate verse:

Harris County District Clerk Race. Voters Should Take Lessons From Hays County

As I have said in the past, running for office isn’t a damn game especially in Harris County.

Ask the citizens of Hays County. Back in 2020 Avery Anderson won the election for District Clerk. He beat a 3 term incumbent with 32 years of experience in the office. Avery had absolutely no experience besides flipping burgers at a local burger joint. Avery had just graduated….from high school. He was 19 at the time. He raised no money, as in zero dollars. He had no website. He had no social media presence. Voters in Hays County, a county that Democrats worked hard to turn blue, voted for the 19 year old, inexperienced, high school graduate.

Avery resigned 2 years later citing the job of District Clerk was more than he expected. (DUH!) Others in the office resigned with decades of experience. Elected officials called for his resignation since he was unable to do the job. A judge deemed him incompetent to hold the office. It was a disaster.

Here in Harris County we have a similar situation. Alex Maldonado, a 23 year old college student has little if any applicable experience for the office of District Clerk. He is in a runoff with Darell Jordan in the Democratic primary. Jordan has a very impressive resume with experience in the Military, as an attorney, legal counsel for the Texas Legislature, and as a Judge. He has enough experience to give the supporters of Maldonado something to throw rocks at. You can’t throw rocks at Maldonado’s experience because he has none. Why any organization (AFL-CIO, Texan Democrats) would endorse an unqualified candidate over an excellent, experienced Democrat is troubling.

I’m all for young people getting involved in politics but for f*** sakes, come with some applicable experience. Democrats have had other young people run for office with disastrous results. Mike Floyd ran for Pearland ISD Trustee and won. He was still in high school. He was the talk of the town being featured on MSNBC and other news networks. He also resigned after 2 years. Lina Hidalgo was 29 years old with no experience when she took control of the 3rd largest county in the United States. Her time in office needs no further discussion. And recently Democrats elected a young, inexperienced, candidate, who has no Democratic voting record, to lead the Harris County Democratic Party.

The Democrats should do well in Harris County since the republicans have become as popular as herpes at a hot tub party but for f*** sakes we have a candidate who is young with excellent, applicable, experience on the ballot. Electing a young inexperienced, unqualified candidate as the nominee of the Democratic Party would give the Republican Party yet another target along side of Lina Hidalgo. According to the Houston Chronicle the office needs help and proven leadership.

Another lawyer we spoke with described the clerk’s office as a “disaster” with an added expletive thrown in. Nobody we spoke with blames the front-line clerks. They are underpaid and can’t on their own clear the blockages between various fiefdoms run by the district attorney, sheriff and judges.

Running for office is not a g**damn game.

Houston’s New Immigration Policy Wasn’t Necessary….if..

If the Republicans in charge of Texas had just worked to actually solve the immigration problem over the last 30 years of being in charge of Texas the new immigration ordinance wouldn’t be necessary.

Republicans took over Texas almost 30 years ago with the election of George W Bush. In 2003 they took over the House and Senate. At times they also had the Presidency and Congress and yet all they did was campaign on immigration. They never tried to solve the problem and when a conservative Republican actually filed a comprehensive immigration bill, they blocked it because Trump said so.

So now the City of Houston has passed an ordinance to curb abuses of ICE and to return our police force to keeping us safe instead of wasting time on non violent immigrants caught in a traffic stop. For those complaining about this ordinance, do a favor, and just shut the hell up. If your g**damn party had stopped campaigning on immigration and started solving the immigration problem this ordinance wouldn’t be needed. Let’s face it. This is a Republican problem. Your party created this problem. You sat on your hands while masked ICE thugs swept up immigrants, as well as Americans, and deported them. You sat on your hands while masked ICE agents killed Americans. And you sat on your hands while this ordinance was voted on.

The lead conservative on City Council stated:

“Do we want to have the most effective force possible to enforce serious state crimes and city ordinances, one the immigrant community trusts, or do we want a deportation force that enforces federal rule violations? Because you can’t have both,” Ramirez said. “I know which one I want.”

Republicans have control of Congress, the Presidency, the Texas House and Senate, as well as the Governorship and yet they STILL refuse to seriously address immigration. Those who voted in favor of this ordinance are at least trying to solve a problem the Republican Party has ignored for over 30 years. Those who voted NAY should do us all a favor and either pick up a g**damn mop or shut the f*** up.

Trump’s Endorsement for Texas Attorney General

At this point Trump is about as popular as herpes at a hot tub party.

But that won’t stop Texas Senator Money Mayes MAGAt Middleton. If elected Middleton’s lips would be surgically attached to Trump’s ass waging war on the non existent Sharia law and illegal immigration supported by the home building industry. He will share Trump’s Easter message of death and destruction and support the Christian Nationalist’s goal of indoctrination in schools.

Deflating NASA’s budget. Again.

The trump administration and Congress strung NASA employees out for a year.

This ought to be illegal and who knows, it might be. Trump and his administration has proposed a cut of 23% to NASA’s budget. One of the victims is Johnson Space Center’s major program, Gateway. Gateway is/was to be a space station in the Moon’s orbit. The idea was to use Gateway as an orbiting base for vehicles and crew to land on the Moon. That is all gone. Gateway has been put on “pause”.

Prior to the big beautiful bill Gateway was on the chopping block along with the Artemis vehicle and the Space Launch System. The SLS and Artemis had already flown. Both were built and tested and both were going to be cut. Our elected officials here in Houston said nothing. Senator Cornyn and Cruz were too busy trying to move a Space Shuttle from the Smithsonian to JSC which would create tens of tens of jobs all while we would lose thousands of good paying jobs that support these programs. The beautiful bill saved the programs…..for a year. Now Gateway is on “pause” which means it is dead. It’s going to be cut giving those who work the programs time to find work elsewhere.

Seven years of research, design, and implementation down the drain. Billions lost. Thousands of jobs lost. This is just stupidity at its finest and our elected officials are quiet as a scared mouse. They have said nothing. They will do nothing.

NASA/JSC’s Congressman Brian Babin is up for reelection in November.

CCISD Candidate Forum Recap

This is a very short recap of the CCISD Candidate forum hosted by the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce.

If I had to pick a clear winner in the forum it would be Trustee Arturo Sanchez. Unfortunately he was supporting the Artemis II launch and could not attend. (He still won). Community Impact has a recap available here. The 1 hour forum can be viewed at I45Now.

Jamieson Mackay is facing special education teacher Ernest Hallman. As I have said before if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Both of these candidates seem to have in depth knowledge of the education system and CCISD. Both focused on dropping attendance which affects funding of the district. A helpful follow up question would have been “Why is attendance dropping?”. I think that would have been a great question. Maybe those who are educated in education would have a preference between the two.

Gabriel Gonzales is challenging Trustee Sanchez. As I have said in the past I wonder why he is running. His performance at the forum was awkward and did not help his run for the Board. His main issue is transparency yet he has refused to answer questions by educators in the area and has blocked those who question his qualifications. He deflects when asked if he is a certified teacher or why he has had so many short teaching positions. His answers to many questions during the forum were on the 30,000 foot level with few indications of in depth knowledge of the subject matter. He says he is a teacher and the Board would benefit from his experience.

Voters in District 2 should watch the next forum between Mackay and Hallman and vote for the best. That forum is scheduled for Monday April 6. See below for details. For District 3 the clear winner is Trustee Sanchez.

The Cost of Contact Lenses

I wrote about the cost of contact lenses in 2022 and 2024.

Back in 2022 the cost of contact lenses seemed to be reasonable but the companies added processing charges, insurance, and other fees. Sometimes the fees were more than the cost of the lenses themselves. The following chart shows the changes from 2022-2026. This year the clear winner is OptiContact. The prices were for 8 boxes, 24 lenses, Acuvue w Astigmatism long term wear (2 weeks).

ICE Coming to a League City Restaurant

You just can’t make this stuff up.

Yep. The local republican club, the Clear Creek Republican Women, are having their monthly meeting at Las Brisas in League City with their guest speaker Luisa Deason, an immigrant, and former DHS/ICE employee. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense to bring an ICE sympathizer to a Mexican restaurant to defend the cruelty of ICE especially one that wasn’t even born here. Luisa consults with MAGAts running for office on immigration policy which probably means how to frame their cruelty so idiots would believe it is fine.

Maybe the women who are attending will grow a pair and ask a couple of hard questions like “Why are they the only law enforcement agency allowed to wear masks?” or “Why are they allowed to kill Americans without consequences?” or “How did your family breeze through the immigration process?”.

Who is Gabriel Gonzales and Why is he Running for CCISD Trustee?

It’s a good question and one that he has not been willing to answer. I have attempted to have a discussion with him but he has refused.

Gabriel is a buddy of former Trustee Scott Bowen and was recruited by Scott to run against Arturo Sanchez, one of the best Trustees the district has ever had. Even after a sound defeat in his reelection Bowen continues to meddle in CCISD elections as he did while on the board. As you might recall Bowen recruited 4 candidates to run against his fellow Trustees, everyone one of them were rejected by CCISD voters and they rejected Bowen himself. The board has been without chaos ever since.

So who is Gabriel and why is he running? It’s hard to understand since he is quick to block anyone who asks. Gabriel is/was a republican precinct chair until recently when he was wiped off by a 75/25 vote in the Republican primary. He is a firm supporter of Scott Bowen. He has filed paperwork claiming he will not raise or spend more than $1001 which should make you wonder who is going to finance his campaign. He claims to be a teacher although there is no evidence of him being certified. He has had a number of jobs lasting anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. He is currently associated with a Charter school in Houston and also has a job with a new media outlet KGTX in Galveston County. He has a Facebook page but will block you if you ask hard questions. His campaign ads are all AI generated and he does not have a website.

It is sad that the Republican Party and Scott Bowen hasn’t gotten the hint yet. CCISD does not want chaos. We want Trustees who are focused on parents, teachers, students, and taxpayers, not a political party. We want Trustees who focus on the district no matter what party they associated with.

Gabriel is not that candidate.

BOLO Issued for Texas Congressman in the Bay Area

Texas Congressman Brian Babin returned to the district from Congress last week and has not been seen since.

Brian Babin is in hiding. Instead of taking advantage of this Easter holiday and meeting with his constituents and business leaders Babin is probably hiding in someone’s basement afraid of having to defend Trump’s war with Iran. Since being elected over 10 years ago Babin has never met with his constituents instead focusing on the business community. Now with the stock market tanking, price of gasoline on the rise, and the Middle East in turmoil even meeting with the business community is risky. As one business owner said “That stupid ass kissing son of a bitch better not step foot in my restaurant!”.

Ok. No one said that but if he would step in a restaurant he probably wouldn’t get a warm welcome. If by chance you know where Brian Babin is going to be contact me at johncoby@sbcglobal.net so I can relay the information for those who wish talk with him.

Bay Area’s Texas House District 129 and Why It’s Important to You

Local politics. It’s important to your life. And wallet.

You might be wondering about the political signs with someone running for House District 129. It’s an important position and can affect your wallet. Texas is divided into 150 State House districts. House District 129 or HD129 is fully within Harris County and includes the Bay Area. You can see the map below. HD129 runs from Friendswood to Seabrook, from the Harris/Galveston County border to Beltway 8. There are 50 voting precincts within HD129.

HD129 has been represented by a Republican for over 30 years. The district has been gerrymandered to maintain that representation no matter who is running in the Republican primary. Because of this the winner of the Republican primary usually will win the general election but this year may be different for a number of reasons. The district was redrawn in 2020 with about a 10 point advantage for the republican candidate. With the recent unrest in the district and the country this 10 point difference might not be enough for a win by a Republican especially by a horrible candidate.

Over that 30 years the district has been represented by John Davis for 16 years, and Dennis Paul for 12 years. Both elected officials never met with their constituents. Both neglected what was impacting homeowners in the district. Because of this neglect HD129 has some of the highest home insurance premiums in the State. Our schools continue to be underfunded. Both supported school vouchers. John Davis actually sponsored a voucher bill when he was in office. Paul literally sat on the Insurance Committee as he watched our premiums go out the roof and insurance companies fled the district. Besides insurance, the cost of electricity is shocking, the cost of health insurance is out of reach for many, the general cost of living is also just simply out of control.

In November of 2026 the voters in HD129 will have a choice between former CCISD Trustee Scott Bowen and Albert Wittliff. You might want to check your wallet and vote. Here are the election results since 1998.
